Jimw – did you see me being propositioned by a male security guard – asking if I wanted to go back to his after his shift finished? If I didn’t there may be an issue with my luggage? Managed to hide in the loo for 4 hours until my flight…. I’m sure that must have been you in the adjacent trap!!!

I picked up the paper (Daily Express?) at my Grandads in Tottenham and showed the front page to my mum. I remember her being shocked.

We have it with mini box. Linked minibox via wifi inc sky booster box. Total rubbish. I have now worked out a cat5 cable route and mini box now works perfectly, it all works well for us as a family. Prob not the best or cheapest option. We have the Ulra hi res tv but it’s equally as fine without. I need to go to specsavers again before the definition of the tv matters!!

Most rigid insulation boards need 50mm clear cavity so factor this into your wall thickness calls.

Have a look at these guys: http://www.addagrip.co.uk useful stuff about build ups. I spoke to one client who had a lot of it laid at two different times over existing surfacing. He said a) sub base critical for longevity of surface finish appearance and b) sub contractor who lays the stuff also critical! These guys also use some bigger aggregates which I think look better. You can also use your own choice of aggregate but it needs washing and if I recall drying before they will lay it. It can also be built up as a porous finish if on the right sub base.

School organised professional filming (I think thro one of the kids parents). Reduced to zero the phone recording though one dickhead still used his dslr with pop up flash… play actually brilliant to be fair.

Second the stud/wire detector… I saved some money but fitting the kitchen extract fan myself. Unfortunately I core drilled thro the cooker main (wondered what the flash was…). Then obviously had to pay sparks to sort it out…..

Drilling it isn’t an option – it’s a specialist job. Holes etc normally made before the toughening process.
Brackets as mentioned above but that’s a thick piece of glass and it will weigh about 32kg so you need to be sure about all aspects of the fixing. Why not ask the place/artist you bought it from for their recommendations?

Seen not met: Nicole Kidman on the red carpet outside Chelsea cinema (almost went into car in front of me as he was doing same thing as me) and along same road almost knocked off by lawrence dallaglio when he opened his car door (I let him off with a shout of ?anker).

Oakley Racing Jacket (I think) with 2 different lenses. Cant remember what they cost but a lot ! But been going for about 4 or 5 years now. Brilliant for off road – slightly bulky frame gets in the way a bit when on the road and looking over shoulder. Also use them for skiing and any other activity. Used to wear contacts but so much better with the prescription glasses.

Amazing! One bike only… I hardly have enough spare time to ride let along constantly buying and selling bikes. I think some of you put the LBS to shame!

Listening to and watching the reports is so sad. Hearing that people jumped reminds me of 911 and makes you wonder the terrifying situation that forces that decision. The political point scoring makes me sick. The block was built in the 70s and likely designed in the 60s. Governments of all persuasions could have made sprinkler installation (for example) compulsory as a retrofit since then yet none did. The people who died, their relatives, those who were affected by the fire, emergency service workers – they all deserve to know what happened and why, and more to the point, steps must be taken to stop it happening again. Good article on Sky News this evening about disasters and how they changed things. – It shouldn’t come to that but it does. Amazing work by the fire brigade. Incidentally I went to a seminar by a company called iMist a couple of weeks ago. Look them up – interesting product and retrofitable to your house. Go on – do it…. let me know how many of you get it installed. It could save your life.

Absolutely the right decision. Nothing you own is worth your life and you never know if they are carrying a knife. Agree about increase in security though. Big German Sheperd?

Not me but a mate had an OTB at the very start of Barry knows best – yes just past the the
Logs! He was cranking away and I think somehow clipped a pedal on a stone. In slow mo he went over. He’s a good rider too. I was just disappointed that no one else witnessed it!

Siemens – been good for 6 years (I’ll probably be looking for a new one now after saying that). Top cutlery tray is much better than box things but does reduce height on the next tray down.

Was thinking about going for a road ride this evening… makes you think especially what seems like daily disaster stories about cyclists being killed or maimed, let alone the OPs experiences.

I’m not sure they exist. I have the shimanos and they are ok. The 510s I have are older and like a huge sponge. I keep thinking about trying some gortex walking shoes I have – don’t know if anyone else has tried this? Doesn’t stop water coming in from the top though.

I’d love my boys to be able to bike to school and they are always asking if they can. Not letting them cycle up Pebble Hill (surrey boys will know it) though as I’m not even keen to cycle up that road myself to be fair. Not due its gradient but speed and quantity of cars and lorries.
I used to bike to secondary school but in those days there were by comparison hardly any cars around.

I bumped into a group of school girls on what I assume was a practice DoE on Pitch Hill on Saturday evening. They were hopelessly lost. They had a laminated extract of an OS map and a couple of them had compasses. I helped them with where they were and where they had to go. Then I asked about a compass and I asked why they weren’t using it. Oh they didn’t teach us how to use it!! Seriously!? I know that the Surrey Hills are not exactly the last great wilderness but even so. So, Cheam High School – you should be embarrassed!

Depends what its made of. I would suggest as noted above preparation is key. For a really good finish you should remove all the existing paint, wash down with a oil and grease emulsifier and rinse. When completely dry use a specific primer for the base material then undercoats and top coats – I used two coats Dulux Weathershield over galvanised primer and it lasted over 8 years (until I changed the door).
