Have a Discovery 4.  Lovely place to be driving.  It’s good that you not bothered about reliability.  It’s decimated my bank account.  Would never buy another out of warranty.

It’s a great business model and my two sons are addicted to it.  Plenty of bans for sub-optimal behaviour….

Induction hob here – had it 7 years and love the easy clean and control – not so good when i dropped the pepper grinder on it… Fortunately only the edge broke and insulation tape covers the sharp edge……

I think the best thing about them is when something boils over, lift off pan, wipe and pan back on.  Plus the lack of retained heat when its been switched off.

Not a trail centre but this evening off box hill saw three guys – one of which had a bee keepers mesh head cover on – but a black one – other two guys looked a bit dodge too but didn’t hang around to see anymore…..

I think this is all pretty common.  I had the same problem getting the bolt out – resorted to bike shop.  They used screwdriver under the flange levering it up while turning.  It worked.  The last time I serviced them I couldn’t get the bolt to do back up and only worked by completely compressing the fork then tightening.  Overall quite a frustrating experience!

B reg Fiesta XR2 – Red – loved that car.  I was 20.  Couldn’t really afford it but I didn’t care.  Sold it when I went to be a student.

I built up a bike from a load of old bits and a highly discounted frame from commencal.  26er.  Look on their website – they used to have really good discounts on old frames.

As above pretty much – take the air cleaner off, spray some carb cleaner over the carb and into the intake – reassemble and hopefully ok.  Oh and check they haven’t turned the fuel feed off!

One useful tip is to drop the chain off the front chainring.  A friend did this in Newcastle – a guy tried pedalling away on his bike – fell off – it didn’t end well!

Is it a terraced house?  Looks as wide as it can be? I think the reduction in width is because they can’t or haven’t built on the party wall but inside it.  Therefore omit the width of the walls and probably some width for flashing up to the party wall.  All that is on the assumption it’s a terraced house.

Your contract with them says that width and depth.  Perhaps you could reduce what you pay them by the reduction in cost per square metre?

We had an ocean race – auto.  Had it for 4.5 years.  Cost nothing except servicing.  Trips to alps skiing every year and Cornwall every summer.  Brilliantly comfortable ok on mpg.  Now have a disco – can’t exactly say it’s been ‘cost nothing except servicing’…..

I use an old exposure joystick as general torch – still brilliant.  As with most, the maglite sits in bedside drawer awaiting the day of reckoning.

My mum has a Honda Jazz – its her 3rd one.  She says ‘lots of old people seem to drive these as well’.  As well as what mum!!???  Anyway she hates it!  Too slow…  I think its probably quite a rev happy motor and she would be better with a small diesel (I never said that).  ‘I’d rather a 1.8 like our old Golf’.  Mum that was 20 years ago – cars with small engines are much more powerful than that now.  ‘I think I’ll keep the Jazz for a couple more years’.   Arrrggghhhhhhhhhh

Been doing many sets of sofa sits, biscuit lifts and kettle pours this year.  Work, family, illness has puts stops on training.  Threads like this are good for motivation to get back to it.

When since did behaviour like that become non emergency?  Call 999 tell them that you are being threatened and he has a dog add in you’re being called …. etc.  It’s then up to the police if it needs attending.  Let them make that decision.  Considering some of the things you hear about I think it would be reasonable to expect police attendance.  Even if no evidence it should be enough to put the idiot off.  Either that or as others have said: Bombers.

I tried lifting a car once as a kid (I’d seen it on the telly) – it didn’t end well. I put that incident as a ten yr old down to my constant back problems!

Public procurement contracts always let to the cheapest…. this leads to crazy cost cutting to win the contracts in the first place and huge costs to actually get that far. There is no desire for quality. It’s no surprise that these things happen as the margins for error are so slim. Terrible for everyone involved. Fingers crossed they can all get jobs.

Most artex applied before 2000 will contain asbestos. I would suggest not scraping it off!

I had one for about 18 months but shaved it off during the summer when it all became a bit hot (seems like distant memory). A friend noted that I looked a lot younger without it but had lost my gravitas…..

Oi poopscoop – no one calls me a rat!

Trap or poison. I’d be careful of the poison option if you have pets though. As someone else said, remove food water and shelter if you can.

It’s an interesting question. When I was young my parents never took me to any sport or came to watch me play either come to that. This was 40+ years ago to put it in perspective. Now parents take their kids to everything, me included to be fair! Is that ruining sport or benefiting sport for them? I think what ruins it is the pressure, the intensity that parents have. Watch any weekend football or rugby match and it’s all the same. Sideline coaching, over enthusiastic celebrations for a try/goal. I think parents need to get some perspective back. Cheering like you’ve won the premiership is not appropriate at u9. I was also thinking about the participation. Probably the right level is when the child says ‘can I go?’ Rather than the parent saying ‘you are going’. I see parents who flog their kids at various sports when they have no real talent and they are only reasonably good because they have been flogged. When the other kids catch up with them, disillusion will set in and they will probably give up. Like most things there is a balance.

Disgusting. Although I would recommend saying nothing at the time. An ”Oi’ to the wrong person could cost you more than the disgusting thing that happened to you. Acid, knives etc… you just never know. So much better to to cycle along and ignore verbal abuse/close shaves however difficult.

Perhaps some nice wheels for the road bike. Can that be done for £350?
Mtb – skills course probably best place to spend it. Who is best at teaching me to go round corners without a)braking or b) falling off or c) both?
