As a couple of answers above, as an Architect I would say yes without doubt you should use one. Make sure it’s the right one, by checking out past work and how you feel about them personally. If anyone is doing any drawings you should commission a proper measured survey. Without one risks cock up further along the process. Sounds like a great project. Make sure you watch ‘The Money Pit’ with Tom Hanks! And good luck.

Have a look on line at other schools in the area. Quite a few around here (Surrey) do clubs that are open to those not at the school.

Ours does that and eats it (not sure which variety means food or perfume though). I think the dog rolls and says ‘I smell bloody brilliant’. Then they get washed and think ‘ugh, I smell terrible!’.

The OP question made me smile. Last time in my own car was in my XR2 circa 1988…. Didn’t have a car which I would dare do that to for years after and now diesels which don’t need revs like that. Shame.

I converted my camber evo with a praxis converter thingie and a 11 speed xt. Works brilliantly. Actually when I say ‘I’ converted I mean the bike shop did it. No creaking just lovely!

Yeah UA I love their stuff. Was so impressed it was a game changer that I pulled the trigger on some shirts and pants and socks. Am now running several pairs. They make the gym come alive.

Just think of the delay those poor passengers may have had if the driver has miscalculated his near miss driving. Oh the inconvenience, a flat cyclist holding us up on our mad rush about life. Bloody cyclists.

Banbury – or rather the villages near there. Good train links to London and others I think. M40 on its doorstep. Theres some quite active mtb groups near there and Oxford area. Not great for mtb as such but possible to get out. Chilterns not too far away. Probably a lot cheaper than Leamington.

A letter like that and no mention of bombers is poor.

I’m bias as an Architect but ‘horrible’ no. Go to the aquatic centre – it’s incredible. Brilliant designing that and to be fair brilliant of the builders to build it. She was one of the worlds greatest Architects. Did what she wanted. Cardiff should be ashamed.

No pics but when i lived in London used to ride a kona explosif painted black with pace rc31 forks, disc brake (front only unfortunately) and specialised 26×1″ tyres pumped to 100psi and XT 46T front chainset on the original square taper BB (that is still going). Was really speedy and manoeuvrable. A bit like a cobbled together version of that Cannondale.

Its trespass as the landowner owns the airspace. Its poor planning and unlikely that they have undertaken a method statement. There should be a written agreement with the landowner being oversailed and evidence that necessary insurances in place. Ask them to stop until this agreed and evidence of insurance demonstrated. If they carry on you could get an injunction if you felt strongly about it.

With the speed of change in the mtb industry are reviews becoming pointless?

On site discussing an unusual brick detail I had drawn. Bricklayer with his two labourers generally taking the piss out of me. Then says ‘How many beers did you have when you did these drawings!?’ My response after a cursory glance at his brickwork was ‘about as many as you guys had when you built this.’ He got the hump and said to his guys ‘get your tools lads, we’re not here to be insulted.’ They left and never came back. The rest of the builders thought it was hilarious.

No budget mentioned. But slightly concerned as if I say ‘oh I’d like an xyz bike please’ she will then actually realise how much bikes cost!

So, simple single storey extension to a house? Work required: Visit client to discuss requirements. Written fee proposal to client including scope, fees, etc. Following agreement to this by client, send out formal appointment documents for signing including fees, terms and schedule of work. One site visit for measured survey. Drawings required: Existing ground floor plan, Existing elevations (all those affected by the extension, so likely three elevations), Block Plan (incorporating Roof Plan), Location Plan, proposed Ground Floor Plan, Proposed Elevations (three). Sections (not necessary as planning submission but still necessary to draw to check extension actually works! Maybe two of these. Total drawings: nine, not inc Location plan or the sections. Send drawings to client for approval. Make amendments following comments. Send another set of drawings for approval. Submit documents on line via the planning portal. Send set of drawings to the client.
half a day’s work? More like a week’s work. All for £375? Seriously? Also likely the name of another client was actually on a title block rather than re-use of the actual drawing. It would be amazing if a design for one client could be reused for another as all houses are different and all clients are different and have different needs and wishes.

This will find you a local Architect who will give you good advice: http://architects-register.org.uk (but you may not like their fees)
This will tell you what you can build without planning permission (though I notice the time limit for the larger extensions has been extended to 30/05/19 (shows what I know!!): http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/extensions/

    Bearnecessities – so funny.
I would say wear a good suit and tie. If everyone is no tie you can say ‘ok don’t need this’, and lose the tie, thereby saying you are adaptable. oh and undo top button. It’s easier to get scruffier than smarter.

The permitted development rights that allow extension up to 6m run out on 30th May. Actually they say works need to be completed by then. There are some other limitations such as height. £350 – laugh. Sorry but it kills me as an architect that anyone would draw up (‘draw up’ may be different than ‘design’) for that much. How much do you value what you will get? If you just want a basic box and don’t mind what it looks like or how it works and the builder will iron the creases out then go for it.

Some brilliant comments on here. Current xc90 has 110,000 so obviously still running in and a mk2 1.1 fiesta I had as a student sold with 189,000 was a great car. Well actually it was a bag of nails but seemed like a great car at the time.

Some jobs time billable, some not. I do try and time sheet everything then at least I have a record of what time was spent and if the job was remotely profitable or not. I work for myself so more motivation for this. At an old practice used to suffer severe memory loss when trying to recall what the hell i’d been doing all day! No code for coffee, chatting or gorming.

Not as bad as some but on the way home from my parents with the family the boys (ages 7 and 9) say they need the loo. Just coming up to services so pull in grateful that it’s just before and not just after like it normally is. So I take the boys into the loo and both say they need a poo. Ok older one ok on his own. Younger one just needs a double check that job done properly. So I hang around outside the cubicle keep asking if he’s finished. Eventually done and checked – all ok. Older one comes out and asks how to flush. They are hands free flush sensors. I tell him to how to do it. The younger one has washed his hands. Just then the cleaner is coming up checking the cubicles. Older one flushes. Cue swirling maelstrom of poo and paper going nowhere. He says what do we do? I look at cleaner one away. Younger one shouts “LETS GET OUTTA HERE,!!” And runs. We have no choice but to follow him at the exact moment the cleaner first notices the destruction and stench left behind. Not my proudest moment.

Watched that doing a turbo session. Didn’t even notice the work, went by in a moment. Don’t think I was breathing every time close up on a pair of boots. Tough film to watch. Beautifullly shot.
