If it was Forestry Commision land(or national trust) i am sure the local ranger would have been concerned, especially using a barby in such dry, and potential fire starting conditions.

I am pretty sure the FC have pretty strict policys regarding camping, and fires on unauthrised sites.

Well done for cleaning up though, just been to a local downhilling event (Scratchmere,Cumbria)and the litter lying around was a tad disapointing, did my bit though and carried a few bottles home. 😉

I have ridden everything over there,As stated above its quite varied from rolling hills like the Howgills, to some great rocky stuff around the South Western coast.

Doing the “End to end” in September. 😀

Helvellyn is best climbed from Brutts Moss ime,(the coach road)and via the dodds, this gives plenty of options decending sticks pass, greenside mine.or the zig zags from whiteside.

Dollywagon is now sanitised from top to bottom, and there now “repairing” the grisdale valley Bridleway. 😥 Its still a challenge to clean it though, but only if your keen! 😉

High street is great in a heavy frost,or after a dry spell (now).about half is dry short grass/rocky and the other peat/bog/grass.

Red squirrel Campsite is famously one of the worst in Scotland, stay there a lot! (Midge Nirvana!)BUT… has the best pub in Scotland a mile or so up the road (Clachaig Inn).YHA is close as well,is also good, and has awesome showers.

Theres an awesome (secret) downhill track nearby as well. 😉

    all imho of course.

I think its possible to ride out of the back of thre centre park, onto the Cliburn-A6 road, head west to Clifton-eamont bridge a6(avoid the dangerous a66 at all costs)from there take the road,(south) through the middle of Lowther caravan site (Eamont Bridge),theres some great singletrack along the river here on the left.

From Lowther Castle turn right onto the road downhill over a cattle grid keeping left before the bridge, join a track here that heads towards whale village, once onto the road turn right towards the Askham village Helton road.

Theres numerous Bridleways from Helton,or Askham and are pretty good singlespeed routes imho, nice gradual climbs. Its dry up there at the moment so the decent from moordivock to Howtown will be great. 😉

return via the road to Pooley bridge,Tirril,Eamont Bridge. enjoy.

I have a 2007 meta with Fox 36s,It gets hammered down some serious decents most weekends and Tuesday nights.

Its the best climbing bike I have owned, and everyone that trys it always comments how well it climbs as well.

weight is 31lbs with 2.3 tyres, hope wheels and carbon bars. 🙂

“I believe its a joke based on Fox’s silly service intervals.”

Ah I get it now,(Its been along weekend)thanks Kingtut 😆

Zangolin,She was a bit shaken but was riding again on another bike soon after, looks like a stress fracture caused by metal fatigue, looking at the end of the tube it has broken as though theres a flaw in the metal.

The star nut was 4 cms above the breakage point itself.

The headset was fully secure as I checked, and washed each bike on the hour.

She said it seemed to go as a result of braking hard, and falling into a rut, there was no big impact it just simply “went” under the frame.
    😥
I think the crash/fall impact is unlikley to be a cause of the damage, shes not a big heavy rider and its a 16 ins orange,Fox 32s.

Not really sure why the “Mince” option was quicker, and the harder section longer (with a steeper climb!) 🙄

I think this was our teams most memorable pic!,Bless er,Ran the bike home in three peices at 3 am! and still managed a 1hr20min lap!

After crossing the line to a Huuudge cheer, she was advised removing both wheels would have been enough to count her lap!.

Well done to the KMB womens team (third place)

I was washing, and trying to fix bikes, 😥

but had a fantastic time!! 😉

yes fatter on the front,I ran that combination of tyre at the Selkirk Merida last year and it was exellent. 😀

The trailraker can be a bit draggy once on the road though, and i only use it as a race tyre.

Its possible to ride down towards lorton from the visitors centre, turn right into the forest (oposite the two cottages) and keep right heading towards whinnlater/barf.Its a murderous climb but adds a usefull loop,I have done 30 miles in whinllater without using the same trail twice, the 125,000 scale maps have the best detail for stringing a route together.

Grisdale pike is a footpath and a very cheeky route imho. 😉

Murray Walker once asked Steve Hislop, What makes a great TT rider?

Hislop replied “Aim for the middle of the black bit between the two green bits and hang on!” 😯

Absoloutly stunning racing,I have never seen such a determined effort to win a race. The Italian Journos will be silenced for a while at least.

Why was Casey so shattered at the end of the race?

I dont think Rossi would win at the IOM,Its a completley different ball game all together,(road racing that is)theres no question about his talent, but it takes a long time to get proply dialed in at the tt,imho.and it defo takes more than a week!

Hope so si,although i do enjoy the challenge of the technical stuff it just seems daft to encourage people to use the sides of a path!!

If half the width of the path had flatter/shallower pitching, with bridged drainage gullys it would make this unecacery in the first place!.

    GaVgAs

From Lingy to Carrick beck is a grassy decent, with a few rocky sections its not used a lot and gets overgrown with bracken in a month or so.

The flatter section from the Hut can be boggy,it should be ok now though after a dryish spell. 😉

I would do the Climb East of High Pike and then take the flatter path to the hut (not marked on map) from there,as the Bridleway climb is soft grass rather than hard paked gravel. 😀

I think the OP has a valid point,I did the Dollywagon decent into Grisedale Valley (from Helvellyn) last week,Its now a long section of rocky steps (stone pitched) from the summit all the way down to the valley.

Judging by the number of helicoptered in dumpy bags in the valley the lower sections will soon be sanitised as well! 😥

My worrys are, most riders will simply ride down the sides of the path as there seems to be no consideration for cyclists on this particular Bridleway,Indeed some walkers were finding it better to walk down the grass rather than the newly repaired path!!,taking into consideration the width of the drainage gullys and size of the rocks used, its not surprising either!

Or is it too steep and difficult for most mountainbikers anyway? and not cosidered a route? by the National Parks.

While i can understand the requirments and policys of reinstating a right of way,all user groups should be considered, especially when there is a risk of further possible erosion. 😥

From Oxenholme Station theres some great Bridleways west of you via

    1Underbarrow
    2Crook Hall
    3Winster

Head North to the White road on map from Barker Knott, (East) towards Mitchland then do the (Boat)skirting east of Bowness on Winderemere to the A591

Any of the Bridleways north of here would be great with a Bivvy stop, on Applethwaite common, or green quarter.Stavely is a great place to stock up on food, with great Cafes and a good bike shop (Wheelbase).

    have a good one. 😉
