nice one stooo,I find the meridas are always good for the support and banter as your riding round, met some really nice people this year.

I hope the wounds heal quickly, and glad you found the "blond first aider" "that was clearly going to be good at it!"….been looking for one of those for years! 🙄

I would be Interested to know why the head gasket has "gone",Have you been topping the coolant up over a long period? If so did you use the Manufacturers coolant or an aftermarket one

Its vital to use the right spec to maintain reliability,if you do the job yourself i would use origional parts and get the full seat/vag kit including new cylinder head (stretch)bolts.
and get or borrow a decent torque wrench and follow a haynes manuel.

IME It sounds as though your bar position is too far back or forwards causing pressure points on your hands.

Looking side on to the bar, I prefer the bars in a five past seven position,a degree or so either way can make a Huudge difference.

As stated above, stem length, height and lever/shifter positions all influence comfort and fatigue. 😉

Loved the look on Suzi perrys face when she found out casey was starting on wet tyres. 😯

I think Caseys decision should have been overruled by the team manager,It was big,and unecacery gamble that didnt pay off.

Rossis ride was awesome as always 😉

Had a great ride around Iron Keld,Grizdale and then into Claife,We watched the Vulcan from Scale Ivy Intakes on the Western side of the lake.

I thought the displays were a bit poor compared to previous years, but the Vulcan was great. 😀

ChatsworthMusters for your info,I think some of the the path/Road/ Bridleways are closed on the eastern side of the lakeshore, should be ok further up onto Claife though. 😉

"Best vantage point is Biskey Howe between Windemere and Bowness with a full view of the lake"

Its a footpath unfortunatly, 🙁 but not too far from the road 😉

Hope m4s,here no brake squeal, but I have had the retaining spring/clip get twisted between the disc and pads causing brake noise. 😥

As above keeping the caliper centred sorts most other issues. 😉

Jetboil here, very fast as stated above,my only concern is they can be a bit unstable, and prone to falling over when in use, apart from that I cant fault it.

Built in lighter is great too. 😉

I think its worth pointing out SFBs route is the most "rideable route" and a great ride as an introduction to the Lakes. 🙂

I would say the Rosset Gill option is a lot more direct, and potentially has the longest decent, but if your carrying gear it will be difficult to ride as its very technical. 😉

As a keen "outdoors person" its interesting that an OS map absolves any miss-guidance regarding the information as too whats on the map, as to whats actually on the ground!!… and I quote

"The Representation on this map of any other road, track or path is NO evidence of the existence of a right of way"

I can think of quite a few sign posts in the Lakes that indicate a footpath on one end and Bridleway at the other! 🙄

I am sure sfb will back me on this 😉

Lots of paths/tracks we use on a Tuesday night ride are full width lanes that are more like roads, but actually marked as footpaths on the map,I think theres a vast network of unrecorded, or wrongly recorded ROW in the national parks, hopefully the user groups, like LARA, NPA, and LAFF will recognise this in the future. ❓

Many of the paths I frequently ride are used by local walkers farmers and Landowners,I think theres a good tolerance to all user groups generally as long as you ride responsibly/courtiously and after 6 pm. 😉

Looking South towards Angle tarn 😀

"I think the solution is to stay high, from the top of Stake Pass there is a clear footpath along the ridge above Black Crags and Rosset Crags that will drop you straight to Angle Tarn, it look reasonably rideable from where I was stood and even if not it's only about 2k to Angle Tarn. A little cheeky but given how good it is from Sprinking Tarn and down Styhead Gill I reckon it's probably worth breaking the law a little!"

I must confess to using the path from Angletarn (down) to Langstrath (Stakes pass),Its a long way round, and very boggy in places but a much better decent and more rideable, Ime. 😉

still a long hard climb/push up though 😥

Rossett Ghyll is really pushing the limits as far as riding, and "whats acheivable" goes.(Its classed as a scramble in walking guide books!!)

Its a challenge for sure, but its only a decent I would do if I was doing a point to point route like the Coast to Coast.

To get the best out of it,I would advise a big travel bike, wide tyres,a dropable seat post, and plenty of body armour if your going to have a go.

To carry up would take an hour or so from the bottom of the steepest section.

The first part from Angle tarn is a stone pitched climb, possibly too steep to climb on the bike,Its a great trail from here on though (to sprinkling tarn) and one I plan to do soon.

From Allen Crags keep over to the right hand side from the summit Col shelter,If your on the right path it has a fast red coloured gravel trail down to the T junction for the Main Sca fell path,Awesome trail from this point, allthough its very rough and pitched,it potentially is one of the best/and longest/highest decents in the Lakes to Wasdale Head. 😉

Ime I would do the Bridleway from Styhead to Wasdale head farm that stays close to dingmell beck, its less busy with walkers and a nicer gradient, although its tricky to find from a cairn near Styhead coll,(Mountain Rescue strecher).

If you are a good technical rider you will love this route,if not,you will struggle, and I wouldent recommend Rossett ghyll to anyone as a good decent but, enjoy it if you do. 🙄

As op says,I think it ecourages poor riding,a skidding bike is the last thing a trail builder would want on a new forest trail! 😥

Having said that, any cycling ads have to be a posetive thing for cycling longer term, and its a good thing a company like this are showing an interest in promoting the sport in the first place. 😉
