I own an 09 cooper s. I agree about the dealer attitude. I needed a new timing chain about 18 months ago. I’m lucky to have a mini specialist garage with a race proven experience. I only take my car there for repairs, service, MOT etc. they have been great.

Yes, they drink oil. Yes, the engines have a couple of weaknesses. But, the Cooper S is a fun little car and it’s good fun to surprise boy racers when sat at the lights.

I’ll be selling my Mini in a couple of months, but I’ll miss it. A Fiesta ST may be on the list for the replacement.

What Bazwadah said. I’ve lived on the north side of the river for 7 years, never had a problem. The link road might make the traffic better.

If you have a road bike there are some splendid quiet roads within a short ride from the city.

    Gary

Apparently there was only 35* Garys registered last year (* number may not be correct but it wasn’t very many) so there won’t be loads of them in his class at school.

I’ve seen him and he’s a fantastic stand-up, can’t believe these haven’t been snapped up yet.

    +1 for Bolle Contour.

I’ve had a pair for a couple of years, haven’t treated them with any care (left in the door pocket in the car, shoved in my bag, dropped more times that I care to remember) and don’t have a case for them (lost) and they don’t show any sign of giving up yet. Also mega cheap and don’t look too bad.

I saw this a while ago and have been thinking about doing it, I’d be on my own and not very fast. How long do people take to finish?

That’s what I thought. Just asked the boss (OH) about getting a skateboard or roller blades. It was a short discussion.

I keep thinking about learning to skateboard or getting some roller blades. At 33 years old without kids am I too old? Will I look like a tw*t?

I’m not defending his comments. But, on a commercial basis Sky sponsor a mens world tour team makes sense. It raised their profile a the same time as cycling exploded in the UK. Mens TDF was already on mainstream TV and had an ok following, combining that with the level of talent coming out of the BC performance programme allowed them to exploit that perfect storm.

Sadly womens bike racing has not had the coverage on UK TV or other media that makes it attractive to a company like Sky have loads of money to spend on sponsorship. I would guess that Wiggle would love to be a headline sponsor of a mens world tour team, but their pockets aren’t deep enough. The womens pro ranks offer Wiggle a cheaper alternative, that probably attracts viewers who are interested in their products.

Overall my view on this issue is that PK should have kept his mouth shut or/and his iphone locked and that I would like to see more womens racing on TV (with bigger sponsors if possible).

I had the same problem. I’ve been using a meal replacement shake (USN Diet Fuel) with some raw veg and some fruit. Normally the little bag of veg is carrot, pepper, cherry tomatos and sugar snap peas. It keeps me going all day and I have lost loads of weight, and most importantly I haven’t been hungry.

If I was looking to maintain weight then I’d try a few different cous cous recipes. You can add loads of stuff to it and stop it from getting boring. But prob avoid the white bread/pasta.

Moved to Lancaster for a few months after graduating in 2005. Still here and love it. Good pubs, the Dukes Theatre is good and gets good productions and films, and the people are mostly friendly. The 2 universities give the town more culture and entertainment than a town of this size should get. Housing is cheap and you’re only 2.5 hours on the train to London.

In an hour you can be in the middle of Manchester or in the middle of nowhere in the Lakes / Dales.

The mountain biking from the door isn’t really available but it’s only 30-45 mins to the Lakes or Gisburn. But the road riding is fantastic. The Trough of Bowland is good fun or there are lovely easy rides around the coast.

Valencia – city & beach. It’s a lot more relaxed than Barca.

Girona – beautiful small city, loads of good restaurants, Only an hour or so on the train from Barca.

Why is the 18″ more expensive than the 20″?

Thanks. From your responses I’ll go somewhere else, it sounds like I’ll be disappointed. I’ll head towards the lakes.

More likely that Derby wanted to make some extra money with high prices. I don’t blame them.

My Dad had a 51 plate 75 Tourer for years, he loved it and took it on many trips from Cumbria to Southern France. It was very comfortable ride and not too bad on fuel. But when it started going wrong it was costly and parts had started to get more difficult to get, even from a former main dealer.

If it’s cheap and you don’t mind if it doesn’t last for ages go for it. If not a Mondeo would be my choice.

I had the same problem. My Iphone4 died last week. I’ve gone for a 6s sim-free and kept my £8 per month orange deal. It was expensive but my plan is to keep this phone for more than 2 years.

I went for the 64gb option. It was expensive, but compared to a new contract and cheaper deal on the phone I’ll save over £250 in the next 2 years and even more if I can make this phone last as long as the iphone4.

I’m struggling to fit in a trip to Paris for a weekend to see Mrs Gastro, a trip to Palma to eat steak in one of our favourite little restaurants and a week in New York (including catching up with friends from uni).

    1st world problems!

Fasthaggis – great pic and what a view to start/finish the day with.

Looks like most of us have a lovely commute and enjoy it. I really enjoy the time alone on the bike for a brief period at the start and end of the day. It seems like the majority tweak their route to have some fun or take in a more scenic area.

We used to regularly transport 2 people, 2 bikes (back seats down and the wheels off the bikes) and loads of kit in a ’54 reg Ford Fiesta 1.4 diesel. Loads of MPG, very cheap to tax, insure, repair (only 1 trip to the garage in 5 years!). It’s not the most inspiring drive but it was comfortable enough for longer trips.

I agree. Those of us who are experienced at riding in traffic probably don’t need the reminder, but if it helps new commuters stay safe then why not.

I think there are more important things to get excited about when it comes to riding in our towns and cities.

    Lancaster?

2.5 hrs on the train from London. Not great riding from the door but perfect for exploring the lakes, Yorkshire Dales and there is some lovely road riding.

£500k will buy you a load of house in the area.

There is some mountain biking on later. At 19:35 is Fat Bike followed by 2 episodes of MTB Insight.

    I’ll give it a try.

Thanks for the advice. so it seems that there is no difference between the spinning bike or the turbo. I think I’ll do better in a gym and I’m a little bit competitive so spinning classes will push me to work harder.

if you’re heading to Scotland via the M6 a stop off at the Lakes Distillery is worth the detour.
