I went to 40mm stem on mine, great on the downs but a handful on the climbs – now got a 60mm and it’s still good going down and acceptable going up. 70-80mm seems to be the happy medium for most people…

Oh and sort out the valves and logos!!!

Finally, the five deserves a better front tyre than that too – I promise you, once you get up to speed on the five, the MKing (while fine on the rear) will hold it back big time. My Five only ever seems to truly be itself whenever I run my 2.35 Kenda Blue Groove.

    Wicked bike mate!

If it were easy to do everything, then no-one would make any money doing it. There has to be a line somewhere, buttons are it in this case. You have to get off your backside and learn it, or else pay someone to do it.

    Very poor rant.

A justified rant though – I wouldn’t make a living doing this if it was easy but it’s amazing how every seems to thing making a website is something that just anybody should be able to do.

Christ, I’ve been doing this for nearly a decade and I’m still in awe at how awesome some others people are at this!

Sorry RudeBoy but you can only symplify things so much. If you asked Stephen Hawkin to explain some of his work to you, it’d be fair to expect you to perhaps need at least physics degree first, maybe more.

If you can’t understand what you were told, it’s not your mates fault, you’re just not equipped with the basic skills required to do html and css.

Sorry to offend all you’s orange riders but .. they are seriously ugly looking bikes [:(]

Post your bike or GTFO! :-P

I love it when people start with things like “Sorry to offend” or “No offence but” – it’s like a polite way of announcing you’re about to be c**t…

This is surely going to bite them in the ass soon because they’re coming on a lot of popular bikes these days. Mine are running fine after a year of heavy use but I’m prepared to expect some wear under the seals now judging by what others have said.

Although, as they work fine I’m likely going to do what ‘Poddy said and just run them till they break and get something else.

Same as theotherjonv – I spent weeks panicking over teh big C and putting off going to the docs and when I finally did go ultrasound showed it up being a benign cyst.

Seriously dude, docs, but also relax, it might be nothing!

I have to admit, naturally I like my Five the most in this thread but ChunkyPaul’s in chrome grey certainly comes close!

That and Richy’s powder blue but it really needs those Fox lowers in white!

Na, I always feel like I’m on a 120mm bike until I cock things up and that 20mm in the bank is there to save you…

Although that Orange colour might work too – will be wheeling my bike over to my LBS once that stuff is in…

If Hope do Chris King brown my credit card is going to take a beating. Thankfully CK is too pricey to be tempted but some Hope Brown Ano bits would look freakin sweet on Orange’s Fools Gold!

I think a few people are missing the point – not everybody’s wife or girlfriend is as into it as we are and my wife wouldn’t dare go in and buy a bike by herself. My brief for buying hers was it simply had to be comfortable and pretty because she’d know full well I’d worry about all the other stuff. (For the record, we went with a ’08 Spesh Myka FSR Expert) But I digress…

To the OP, I tend to ride my SS when riding with my wife, not because it makes me any slower but it does make those rides more of a workout and I am less likely to go tanking off too far ahead without realising.

That said, I can’t always win, I’ve told off when on the geared full suss for riding ‘with her’ in the climbs, yet on she’s moaned about me taking the Single because I’m forced to go bombing off on the climbs to stay on top of the gear and she only gets to see me at the top of every hill. :D

As for buying a downgraded bike cause you might feel silly, nonsense. However, using it as an excuse to get something a bit niche (SS or CX) is fine :)

Oh sweet jesus, colour coded rims are now an option – fools gold rims – lursh!

Fools gold does need to be seen in the flesh – I personally like it because it’s a nice match for the stanchion colour but also because it tends to take on the colour of the ambient light – almost silver in midday sun but very bronzy in sunset light, quite cold and bluey in early morning. It doesn’t seem to suffer from top tube clouding as much.

Plus I’ve never passed another one on the trail so it’s good for vanity sake.

Can’t comment on the others – quite fancy a tracer though. Don’t worry about Orange Five climbing ability it’s not the best but it is good – kind of reassuringly capable.

Best thing about the five is you build it down to 25lbs and race it or stick a 160mm fork on it and some bigger wheels and hoon on it…

In no way am I saying it’s an actual race bike (although team Mojo use them for it) but none of the above are…

    Na that’s not right.

I sold a pair to a bloke on here recently that had done CwmCarn once and then the Bristol Bike Fest (12 hour team of 4) and they looked mint still…

I’ve seen prototypes of this kicking around for ages and seeing as Orange just seem to make bikes that they want to ride themselves – and they always turn out good – I say keep sticking to what you’re good at (making bikes you enjoy riding). If the Blood didn’t make sense to them – they wouldn’t have made it.

I quite fancy one but on a practical note, my Five does everything I need for now…

Mine’s a year old this week – been faultless!

I can’t speak highly enough of it – in fact I’ll stop now because I’ll just start gushing…

They’re built well, plenty of miles, still rides like it’s out of the box. But ignoring the practicality and good value (ok I paid ’08 prices and it was good value if you ask me!) – it just rides so nicely. It’s aggressive and lively, rides light, somehow seems to really look after you to (just when you think you’ve over done it, it somehow steps in and saves you)…

There we go, I’m doing it again, I’ll stop.

Worth noting that even with the flexy 08 32, my Five copes with Wales more than adequately, 36s are nice on the downs but possibly overkill…
