I find all these GPS iphone apps bloody useless (mapmyride, trail guru etc). They always lose signal a minute into the ride and then displays a "Oh noes lost interents" pop up and fails to try and carry on recording. Unless you're in a populated area the GPS capabilities of the iphone are frankly shite.

I assume this is down to the poor strength of the GPS receiver and it's reliance on wifi, 3g, edge and GPRS to help triangulate…

Your QR15 just happened to tighten up to the right position.

The numbered dial on the side of the 'dropout' is there to be adjusted so that the putting the QR lever in the 12 o'clock position produces the correct tension.

But it's a fit and forget setting after that still…

I actually quite like these little OEM bargains.

I wanted 15QR Foxs, but they force you to buy the full on RLC, I've never felt the need for lockout or compression damping on my foxes (my weight doesn't really cause forks to dive). So the fact that I could pick up an OEM model basic R but with 15QR was exactly what I wanted…

If you do your research it's not hard to tell if something is proper aftermarket or not.

Proper pedal spanner, some assistance and standing on the spanner seems to work….

If I was that quick, I'd probably be a terrible gobshite about it too… 😐

Oh – and the QR15 is not as nice as Maxle anyway… Maxle is zero hassle to initially set up and you can put it where you want, every time.

Am I missing something with 15QR then? Removed fork from box, put it on bike, put in wheel, turn axle till 12 o'clock, fold down tight? It always closes in the same place.

Anyway, floats. I rode a set of floats for 18 months in all sorts, they started oozing like the guy's a few posts back, assumed they'd be screwed on account of the horror stories so asked a LBS to just bodge them up. They changed the seals and serviced them (£45 btw!), informing me that they were pristine inside and wondered if they'd even been used much. (From a quick straw poll of the may riders I know, I do ride a lot more than most). So yeah, maybe I got a "good pair" 🙄

I've not ridden revs but I was quite impressed with the 130mm Recon solo air which is lower down the range.

Revs vs Floats… get whichever's cheaper or you like the look of more I reckon.

I got some cheap Fox vanillas from CRC – I assumed they'd be grey import tbh – you have to ask yourself these questions when stuff is that cheap compared to RRP. This didn't bother me.

Merlin have sold cheap Rebas for a few years now – again, I assumed they'd be grey import.

    Blinded by the bargain..?

Surely it'll never take off as a concept then if you essentially have to cut your frame to change it..?

Unless they start designing hardtails like the old Funk and Alpinestars… :-/

Fight it to no end, it's cheaper for them to just settle then it is to contest so have no interest.

I had a similar thing but wouldn't give in, eventually they got an independent ex-police assessor to handle the case and her lies eventually caught up with her and a year later I won.

aviemoron: are they really the same thing though?

I thought my 13" macbook pro was a bit of an indulgence but I tried to build a dell that was genuinely comparable and it was the same price in the end…

if you are doing graphic design then you need a pro and a decent screen, the screens on the imacs are just not good enough for colour critical work.

Just out of interest – which iMacs are you referring to? I've got a latest 24" and a 20" here in my studio and the screen in the 24" is a world apart from the one in the 20", as well as the various macbook pros and cinema displays lying around. It's easily a match for the fancy Nec we have downstairs for video stuff too…

Specced out 24" iMac is my weapon of choice! 🙂

I found the i850 terrible – you need to sit right on the nose to get it to drop and my 12st frame struggles to get it to go down anyway – add a bit fo grit and water and it's now an extra 1lb of bike weight doing nothing. I've donated mine to Brant for research…

Did they have some kind of dog exams then?

    Well sort of, yes…

It's all about their ability to learn commands, how quickly and how many…

ps. For the benefit of Gary: I hear the Orange Five is great if you fear progress and technology

I didn't see much progress going on in the form of your Remedy when I was constantly glued to your back wheel wondering how much faster I could be going!

    And your Mum…

    Boo ya! 😉

I remember back in the spring they had Vanillas 15QR at £279 which I missed, but still a bargain at £349 that I got them for…

15QR Vanillas here on mine. SPring is too heavy for me so only getting about 110mm at the moment but still a mile better than the normal QR Floats before it… Coil FTW!

    Ok, the i850 is terrible…

Perhaps it's my weight (12st kitted up) but the seatpost is not good. I've already mentioned that you have to sit on the nose of the saddle to get it to go down, impossible to do whilst riding I might add! Matters were made worse due to the fact that the bit of spray and grit (it was one of those Afan, it rained the day before and still wet on the ground rides) made it even stiffer meaning my 12st frame couldn't even get it to lower!

If I ever do something for production, I'll assure you of a hefty discount/proto testing?

Brant, if your offer still stands, you can have my i850 if you like for evaluation…

It's a little flexy compared to a Five, it's pretty stiff compared to a Meta – that's all I can offer.

If he was doing the claimed 50mph I don't think it would take much to go down.

I've only ever done 47mph on my road bike and that was tucked and on the drops and I very quickly went for the brakes as the wobble was starting to kick in…

Wtf use would offroad experience offer in terms of descending on the contact patch akin to the edge of a 50p piece at 50mph? 🙄

What is your favourite shop? Bike UK, Bristol
Why is it your favourite shop? Staff are pure gold! (Not literally)
Is it located well? Yes, 1 min walk from office
Can you park? n/a (but no)
Does it sell you coffee? or give it to you? I've been made a brew before, Ian is slacking these days…
What kind of brands does it sell/stock? Orange, Marin, Whyte, Genesis, Kona
What do you consider the right amount of choice? More than 2 less than 5???? Depends on size of shop…

Well I've got a spare saddle kicking around and both bikes take 27.2 so it's kind of ok with me… It'll probably go to trail centres regardless of weather anyway…

I'm just thinking Bristol local trails and questionably reliable posts from other brands to date = bad idea…

Ok, just some initial feedback – I've onyl taken it for a spin in the street…

    The Good:

It looks quite reasonable – it's no Joplin but on the other end of the spectrum, it's not Gravity Dropper! 😉

Rotational play is as good as non-existant.

Those worried about the 20mm of 'suspension', this only works when it's dropped – if it's at full height it is totally locked out. I don't intend to be sitting on the saddle in situations when it warrants dropping anyway.

Now the not so good. Yeah it's heavy. Although once on the bike it wasn't actually that noticeable.

I actually thought mine was faulty at first, it just wouldn't go down when I sat on it! If I removed it and put it on the floor it would compress easily. I left it compressed over night and then tried again, still no joy, emailed Leisure lakes to complain. In the mean time, faffed some more and realised you do need to shimmy forward slightly and it just works. An odd quirk but given the price and/or availability of other 27.2 posts, I can live with it.

Which so far, kinda sums the post up – I don't intend to run it full time, and for the money, I can live with the downsides.

I don't know how it'll hold up in the wet because I don't intend to use it in the wet. When we get some dry weather, I'll have a play in the woods and report back.
