The Cheesy Riders did it for Children in Need last year. One of our members even got ATB to donate a brand new Marin frame for the project. I think it fetched almost £400 in the end!

Only reporting what was said on our news, not intentionally over-embelishing.

Sorry – that just goes to show how inaccurate reporting can lead folk on the internet to reach conclusions not agreed with by those who heard the whole story first hand.

I've experienced first hand that you literally cannot believe a word the press says.

I was on the Jury for a death inquest, inmate committed suicide. We returned the suicide verdict but explicitly stated that the cause was the refusal of parol for something like the second or third time due to bad behaviour. We also explicitly stated that we felt the miscarraige of his girlfriends baby was not a factor.

The press just reported he topped himself because his girlfriend miscarried.

I never really had much respect for the press but having spent a whole week on a jury and taking it seriously (and it was quite a distressing experience) and watching the press just make up their own verdict was pretty galling…

    Hey cheers_drive

I wasn't always a graphic designer, I actually graduated as a software engineer. After 2 years in industry I realised I'd made a mistake. To be frank, I was very good and often wonder what I'd be earning now if I'd stuck with it. But I hated it, and was dreadfully bored and exhausted by the whole thing. I'd always fancied being a graphic designer but my parents steered me in the maths/computing direction.

Spent a few years self teaching and hobbying and eventually started applying for jobs. Been doing it for over 3 years now and much happier.

So it's doable and I'm finally on more now than I was when I quit Software engineering. As for what you could do, maybe look at careers that overlap slightly as that'll make changing easier and quicker. Although I was doing Software engineering, I moved into UI desgin, then web apps UI design, then web design in general and I've expanded into graphic design since.

I will say don't hang around if you're fed up, life's too short as they say!

Um, I've just ordered a tracklogs map for where I live but I'm looking at Where's the path and I have to ask, WTF am I paying for with Track logs..?

Ransos, are you selling? Or trade for a trail raker? (assuming it's a Stick-E not a DTC)

    The keyword here is "relative".

They are extremely grippy, "realtive" to similar looking tyres. It's amazing what you can get away with on them but you have to be realistic about what to expect from them. I know there was a big thread on Bike Radar bithcing about them because they got this amazing review in the mag about how fast and grippy they were. The drones went and bought them in their masses and were shocked to find that they were not an all year round replacement for your usual knobby treads.

If you only ride trail centres they'll be fine all year round. Otherwise save for dry weather or run rear only.

Oh yeah, and get a DTC on the back and a Stick-E on the front.

I find tyre threads so funny because contrary to what Andy M says, I found the High Roller terrible on the front and won't ride with anything but a Blue Groove up front.

What can you deduce from that? This thread won't be able to tell you anything and you'll only find out by trying!

Anyway, the logic behind the Blue Groove Nevegal pairing is the BG has a less uniform tread pattern with spaced out blocks which are ideal for turning and steering, namely there is no lateral straight line through the tread pattern so theoretically less prone to washing out. The nevegal has a more paddle like arrangement and is better and putting power down and maintaining grip under drive, but also ramped to relatively fast rolling (for the amount of grip on offer)

This is not science or fact, just a long time user's theory! 😛

Both but mainly maintaining normal levels of riding throughout the winter, which normally means a couple of midweek rides.

Sure riding with less than optimal light is fun for a bit but after two seasons of sub-par light it just became frustrating as the novelty of riding in the dark wore off…

Doesn't the DX light use the same lamp/tech as the Lupine Tesla @ £275?

I ride with a P7 on my head and P7 on the bars and it is an absurd amount of light. I'd even ride the Cwmcarn downhill track close to full speed with that much light. And it costs £60ish for the pair and four batteries. I frankly can't bring myself to buy anything else, I'd rather save the money for the endless drain that is funding chains and cassettes for 3 bikes at 2010 prices thanks!

having majot 'issues' with my kendas at the moment, pinch flats all the time not impressed to be honest, grip is good but thats no good if you have to stop 3-4 times every ride to repair punctures.

That's not normal, might want to look at rim tape and check your rims over.

My vote would be Nevegal/Blue Groove comb…

I've ridden two sets vs my '08 mono minis, found the X2 to be everything my Mono Mini is, just with more power…

    I'd buy them.

RE: Genesis bikes, I remember thinking pfffft, a rebranded Ridgeback – and then I bought one this year lol.

That said, even when Saracen had kudos, I always thought it was a naff name then (yet was perfectly happy with Orange, fickle world eh!?)

Just on the off chance, I've got an Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Ebony with a hard case that I've just had professionally serviced, setup and restrung for sale. 😀

I love how the Five is considered one of the most common bikes around yet they probably only knock out a few hundred a year tops.

Obviously the choice of bike for those that actually ride a lot I guess…

Love my '08 Mono Minis, pads have lasted 12 – 18 months so far. 2 years old and they've never needed rebleeding or gone wrong since coming from the Orange factory. I've never even had to realign the caliper.

Got some entry level Shimanos on my Genesis and they're frankly gash. Everytime I remove a wheel the caliper needs realigning and even then they start dragging and squeeking mid ride. Hated them from new. I guess they stop ok but they're a bit "nothing, nothing, nothing ON!!!!"

I appreciate they're cheap ones but still, you'd expect better from Shimano… Everything I have from Hope felt like indulgence and bling at the time but has been really good to me requiring next to no servicing.

I expect price rises on new items has driven up prices of used gear a fair bit.

    Epiphone Les Paul Standard anyone?

Bristol/Quantocks/South Wales and ride a Five.

You don't need anything more than Revs or 32s. I personally ru a 32 Vanilla with 15QR, I think the vanilla is worth the extra weight over a Float which is now on my HT.

Was this new or a repeat of that dreadful test of a Trek Session 88 vs a 2nd hand muddy fox which they preceded to race "DH" which was actually a mildly loose almost flat fireroad. Apparently the Trek wasn't worth the money!

Unless she's already "bike fit" avoid SS. My wife hugs the granny ring a lot… She's ridden for quite a while now and technically is quite good, but her riding is so sporadic that the fitness and strength to stay on top of the middle ring simply isn't there…

I'd say maybe… in terms of handling prob not, but…

On my full susser, if I remove one 10mm spacer from the bottom and put it on top of the stem, I get the most god awful backache after about 2 hours which doesn't materialise with the spacer back in place.

Sorry but I always get cards left by Royal Mail when I know I was in the whole time and the doorbell does work. This happens both at work and at home. Only explanation, given it happens so often, is that they just leave the parcel in the depot and have every intention of just popping a card in the door.

Perhaps unrealistic targets are forcing Posties to this kind of action perhaps? Leave any bulky parcels at the depot, can carry more mail and has a few less items to sign for…

My Father used to be RM management… I think it's something to do with offering a Universal Postal Service

    http://www.consumerfocus.org.uk/en/content/cms/post_information/background_briefings/universal_postal_ser/universal_postal_ser.aspx

Without RM you wouldn't be able to send a letter to any address for a flat fee. No Private courier is going to pick up that mantle.

Took a test ride, had never felt so right on a bike and was riding better than I'd ever ridden.

I think I'd have quite happily walked off with the battered demo bike if it meant not having to wait a fortnight for my new one, such was the joy I got from riding it…

You have to be serious about racing if you are going to win

But don't you all just wear lycra? I can't remember the last time I saw anyone racing in full merino, baggies and waterproof.

The Devil is in the detail.

Why does a Soul cost so much more than a 456 (asked today in the I hate Cotic thread) could be troll, could be plain ignorance.

RE: tyre threads, usually this is people just too lazy/ignorant to search.

Usually classic trolling will be asking something to be controversial and cause trouble but trying to disguise it as an innocent question – like, What's so good about an Orange Five and why does it cost so much? Is almost guaranteed trolling… lol
