My wife is 5'6" and rides a 17" Myka FSR – to be honest it's a tiny little bit small but not far wrong…

With the spesh womens' geo, throw out everything you think you know about bike sizes based on seat tube lengths.

Yeah, axle to crown is shorter. Currently running a float at 100mm on my singlespeed.

Usually the current one I own, as rose tinted as my view of my wonderful old Konas and Oranges is, each bike I've bought since has been genuinely better to ride.

My Five was the first bike that made MTBing as, possibly even more exciting than Windsrufing was…

I thought Webber could have had a grumble at Hamilton for moving about in the braking zone, but he took it on the chin.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYOU4bf7EJA

    I'm sorry, WHAT?

    a) you're allowed to move once, he only moved once
    b) he's moving to avoid alonso and line up for the pass.

Even Webber admits that he cocked up pure and simple. Some people will find any excuse to have a dig.

No mention of Kubica? I really rate Rosberg but Kubica is more of a future world champ in the waiting I reckon.

That '08 BMW was quite a way off the pace of the Mclaren and Ferarri yet he consistently stuck it up there among them – if only BMW hadn't ballsed up the '09 one. And his drive on Sunday was stellar! That Renault shouldn't be on the podium yet.

If Renault don't improve consistently, Kubica at Mercedes for 2011?

Max speed on a GPS doesn't count in my opinion. My Garmin extrex regularly has me doing 80+ kmh top speeds on the MTB… (which I clearly don't do)

I've done 47mph on the road bike

I've ridden 90 miles on the MTB in a day with a 20lb rucksack and a seatpost mounted rack – half road, half offroad. That hurt, especially as we did 60, mostly pushing, the day before.

    I'm assuming '08 is modern?

Would we class the last of the straight top tubes ('06) as the first to be 'older'

Assuming you mean 661 Chicken wings? Not very comfortable and have a tendency to slip upon impact.

Almost impossible to do though, what if I drank 24 hours ago, there would still be a small amount in there? So you need a line to draw. Where to draw it? The current value is set at a point where your judgement has been proved to be unimpaired.

I think the issue is that there's this culture of how much it is acceptable to drink before driving. "I'll just have one, I'm driving" does my head in – if it's much later on fair enough, but drinking a pint and getting straight into a car because you'll be under the limit – argh!

The tolerance in drink driving limit is there as a sort of grace, not a right.

Starting from the car park with the Raven and Derwen is best. Gorlech is signposted from halfway round the Raven making the pair a nice big figure of 8 ride. When you're suitably shagged, you're in the right car park to have a razz round the Derwen.

I run medium cage on 3×9, you shouldn't be going big to big anyway.

If if you do accidentally go big to big, rather than ripping the mech apart it just grumbles a bit and you're able to sort it.

My point stems back into lenses and accessories for what it's worth. I can nearly always borrow what I need of someone with Canon – and the lenses and accessories are often way more important than the actual bodies IMO.

Or, if you are taking a picture of say someone on a bike, it will track focus on them without you having to do anything so when you press the button the picture's bagged.

So you mean like AI-Servo on Canons and Continuous Focus on Nikons?

Couple of things to make the initial choice easier.

Firstly narrow it down to Canon or Nikon. Then, if you've got any mates that use one or the other and have lots of kit, chose that brand.

I went with Canon because all my family, friends and my employer happen to use it, allowing me to borrow lens and accessories – which often make a bigger impact on the photos you take than the pros and cons of Canons and Nikons using a basic lens.

Keep up the good work guys, I've subscribed all the others and they only lasted an hour at best…

Well it's this route I'm planning on doing: http://www.singletrackworld.com/trailguide/files/2008/12/isle-of-wight-big-route.pdf

Another poster was thinking of doing an around the isle…

Well reading the actual article, I'm guessing it goes clockwise.

SO what's the ground generally like there if it does see some rain?

I've done this but July instead of Skyline. I will be doing the full thing at some point next month.

I'm planning on breaking the back of it by getting Skyline out of the way. Start W2 going up the White's climb, down the Wall Descent, round Penhyyd, back up the Wall climb and down White's descent.

    Should be fun!

Feels more like an arbitrary list tbh. Some of those are spectacularly ordinary but popular choices.

Orange made 15-20 or so 'Alpine Five' prototypes a couple of years ago. They never made it to production either.

But didn't they ultimately develop the Alpine 160 instead though?

Definitely chain suck solved, marginally stiffer. I think the tubed back ends may have been recalled so get in touch and ask Orange!
