Getting your pressures right and the compound can have way more effect than the actual tread pattern. As is being taught to ride properly! I thought I was alright but Clive Forth had me riding quicker in the wet on Small Block 8s than I was on normal tyres in the dry…

This has been posted already but…

One could argue he sold out when he sold GF to Trek in the first place.

One could argue that despite what the whole company is saying, this might not have even been Gary Fisher's choice – they already owned him in that respect.

Personally I think it makes sense and I'd be more likely to buy a Fisher now as I think the Trek design team has done a much nicer job visually.

I've had really tired riders ask politely as I've gone bty and I've let them do it.

I'm too stubborn to ask if I can grab a wheel though unless I'm riding in a bunch anyway.

James Leavesly was right in the hunt for a podium but I heard he fell asleep out on the course and the marshals couldn't wake him – must have been well gutted as he was looking good each time he came round.

Rob Lee was also in the hunt for a podium but he started to fall away at 10 hours and came in at 15 hours and couldn't go on (I was crewing in his team).

    Ant was relentless!

I was wonder about things like this… I don't consider doing the Etape "hardly cycling at all"

I know, everytime I have the pang of regret I remind myself of this. Still, it feels like all the other kids in class are going away on holiday and I'm being held back and sitting alone!

Not been yet, not going this year, first kid due in October… can I join this club you've started?

Dad's not doing the alps anonymous?

+1 for the Altitude, only 120mm but Maxle Rebas are bloody capable!

Transition TransAM – I wasn't overly bowled over by it but they've apparently made some tweaks and new frames are coming very soon.

No, Tramadol isn't the sort of thing they're going to just hand out at the Pharmacy… 🙁

What about trying some NSAID-based gels directly to the back area in addition the the pills?

Obviously not a medical professional here but, what about taking something else in conjunction?

I've recently had a painful heart condition and they had me on Tramadol, Cocodamol and Ibuprofen.

Slept like a baby the first few nights. When they sent me home the cocodamol was replaced by paracetamol. The tramadol is good stuff if you can blag that.

My Cervelo has epic toe overlap and has binned me in the street after I got the wobbles in a trackstand once.

Found it on the Genesis Croix de Fer crosser-thing, it's a non issue really, even on twisty slow singletrack in Leigh Woods it was fine.

    Cheers guys.

Didn't want to run a camelbak as worried about chaffing or back/shoulder issues after 24 hours.

I've got a crew, in fact, Team Syncros have agreed to take us under their wing and help my crew as they're first timers. I figure one bottle should see me two laps and we should be trackside so I can grab a new bottle every two laps.

Obviously I'm banking on a dry race and no mechanicals and won't be needing the spare bike, but figured I should find and test a solution before hand.

If gaffer tape, lagging and zip ties doesn't work, I'll try some of those other suggestions.

ADH: seeing as the spare bike is my Five, imagine the amount of fluids I could fit in the downtube/swingarm!

Nice! My 456 SS felt like the box was far from empty 😉

Emily Batty, search for the A&A threads for a bit more 'education' on the young lass.

The conditions and the tyres are the same for all – management of both issues is a skill in itself.

I think you're arguing the same point as me there…

    Canada was brill!

Shame F1 needs either rain or bad tyre choices by Bridgestone to be good.

Testing a pair of cobalts at the mo, too soon to comment on longevity and weather has been a bit good.

They look super, not light enough for the money as an xc race wheel but so far I'd wager they're a bit over built for the claimed purpose. I've been running them on a Five with a 15QR axle and as I'm not the biggest of riders I'd happily run them as a very light trail/AM wheel rather than a race wheel.

Prop up with a stick and photoshop the stick out, background is non distracting..

Close up, shallow depth of field?

Find a prop, a unique angle, crazy wide lenses?

    Wide angle but close up?

    Crop closer?

My gut feeling is that if want pikes, go coil, otherwise you might better getting revs.

Generally, of the people I know, the ones that like their pikes have coil, the ones that don't like them have air.

And go on then, I'm feeling brave thanks to ADH's comments. Some more '09 bike fest. These were all in the last hour so might challenging conditions considering I don't have a full on 'strobist' setup.

Yes, not far from the bottom.
Shot in Jan / Feb (?), it had rained all day, which turned to snow later in the day. Standing around getting pretty cold, waiting for riders to appear out of the gloom – the price one pays for a good picture, how I suffer for my art!

Argh, I was riding that day – did two laps on a Superlight and nearly died. Wet to the core from icey rain within 5 mins and then snow/sleet/rain on rotation.

I always come prepared but that was some weather that day!

I'm doing my first ever 24 solo.

All was going well, hoping for a 10 top finish but I've been off the bike for 6 weeks with heart problems and only just getting back on the bike next week – I don't know for sure how this is going to go. Now I think I'll be happy to be fit enough to turn up and simply finish.

Yeah mendips is tricky, Winter slop, spring dust, summer slop, autumn dust.

I'd say Bonty mudx when it's sticky, Kenda Blue Groove (front) Small Black 8 rear when it's dry.

Does anyone else not think Patrick was perhaps above getting involved in the first place?

And was he not above presenting at the Glamour awards?

Not any more though, surely? Seems like concensus has been reached on where to put a shock on a bike (by trial and error or design I don't know).

By that logic, isn't making a hardtail just welding some pipes together in a bike shape?

When was the last time any manufacturer made a FS that plain did not work?

A testament to the amount of R&D going in?
