Thinking of one myself but first one isn’t due for 3 weeks yet.

They seem to go for pocket money on ebay almost unused so look there. I think they’re the sort of thing a lot of people think they want but end up not using.

What is it that wears quicker? I can’t see any reason for the chain wearing quicker. So is it the thinner cogs of the cassette that were?

Chain and cassette cogs are thinner so arguably will wear quicker. But because the front chainset ratios are closer I reckon it will wear quite well due to less harsh/clumsy front shifting.

Mediatemple here but on current exchange rate it works out about £13/month for their Grid Server package. But I’m running about 10 sites off that…

Did he put the chain on the right way – they’re directional now…

Can’t say I’ve had any issues and I kinda like it. Reckon wear rate won’t be any worse because I think the chain is under less stress with smoother front shifting to closer ratios.

Wouldn’t have rushed out and bought it but I was given a set, it works, there are benefits to the riding experience but they’re not ground breaking.

I get very muddy underexposed images from the 400D, a lot of early adopters at least reported this. It’s fine but I never felt the need to post process as much on my 300D…

Yeah the implementation of video in the 550D is much better and it has an external mic socket.

But if you plan on not using the video, it’s not a worry.

Image quality in general is up on my outgoing 400D as well but I think the 400D was a bit of a lemon in canon’s DSLR history.

Will you ever use the video functionality? If so, get the 550D…

Great event, this year rained for the middle 14 hours yet the course was entirely ridable and even started drying out in the morning!

I think I’d find it useful. I like a wide bar but a lot of local trails here are cheeky ones cut through the woods and a wide bar can be an issue.

Going for an out of town ride on more open trails, extending the bars sounds good! It only takes a minute or two to undo your lockons, shifters and brakes, slide them along and re-tighten!

I’d try and pick up a Whyte 19 C in the sales or build one up from a frame and savvy shopping.

Had a Kryptonite New York cut with such ease the edges were completely smooth. Hot knife through butter came to mind.

I’ve currently got the Twin Six edition of the Crumpler in, very good bag. Still looks brand new after 6 months of daily use and I’ve even done the odd cheeky offroad commute home in it with tree/bramble scrapes and all.

Got 100mm Marz Corsa Superleggera on a 456 Summer Season – although it’s more like a 120mm fork in terms of AtoC.

Much better than the 140mm fork that was on it before and it would be even better with a true 100mm fork on it as it’s still borderline silly slack at the mo. These hardcore hardtails actually ride rather poorly with the big forks and slack angles on unless the only riding you do is bonkers steep DH/Alpine riding…

    IMO OC

Just got a 550D but haven’t shot anything riding wise yet. But I think SLRs are the way to go for getting a professional look and control without going too silly money wise.

Already got an EF50 1.8 and an EF-S 10-22 which give shots you won’t get out of any remotely affordable camcorders.

I think train to the destination and ride only back. Out and backs can be pretty depressing if the back isn’t going well. If you’re riding new terrain/roads and heading home I find it easier to stay motivated.

I did Barnstaple to Bristol offroad. Train to Barnstaple and then ride home. We didn’t do it in one punt but having raced 24-hour solo now, I’d love to give something like that a go. Perhaps a seven deadly spin…
