Just can’t get away from them. Was about to sell my battered ’08 Five to fund a full suss 29er in the Autumn. Took the Five out for one last spin and have decided to keep it, and now thinking of getting a Gyro (subject to demo). Don’t ask.
Needed to do a wheel end cap change and didn’t have two of the right sized cone spanner. Used an inner tube as a gripper to hold one end while I undid the other. Was quite pleased with my last minute ingenuity given it spared me an LBS visit.
I’d look at geo and comfort over weight I reckon. A slightly heavier bike won’t ruin or jeopardise the event. A wrecked back and numb palms quite possibly!
I like them becauase they’re close but I do think that they are designed with H&S in mind. You can’t get up any real speed because the corners are so tightly packed. I’m guessing they were designed this way to keep the speed down?
Keep at it. Check out some of the times people are doing on Strava!
Facebook group is a pretty good way in. The secret squirrel element comes down to the fact that’s is a very open and trusting forum once you’re in. People lend you bikes, give away spares often for free, quite often people even bike courier parts that have been sold to the other party on their way to work etc. It’s a great little club but you need to protect that somewhat.
Dunno just wanna get a job and be a success at something
Being a success is all about optimising the chances you have in front of you. Suck it up and nail your A-levels whether you’re enjoying them or not, and you’ll at least be on the right path mentally to succeed.
Same at 24/12, course goes through the arean at the beginning and half way stages of the lap. I was about 400m before the actual start finish line, quite nice on the last lap to blast straight through to cheers from the crew before finishing the race.
To be honest, I don’t want a transition area, I want to be able pull up track side and be serviced on the course. I think having a big chunk of the start finish straight reserved for soloists would be better.
Events like Bristol Bike Fest are generally pretty good at letting soloist just line big chunks of the start finish straight although still offer a soloist tent all the same.
I worked with two short and stumpy obese girls, one of whom was an “up for a laugh” kinda girl, the other was a bit “straight”. They looked very similar… one day i saw what i thought was the “up for a laugh” girl bending over whilst leaning on a table, i just saw this huge arse looming and my instant response was to take the small oxygen cyliner i was holding and force it between her legs and rub it up her snatch from the rear in a provocative manner… guess what… it was a case of mistaken ass identity, i truely believe i was more shocked than her when the “straight” girl turned around with a very red face!!!
Edit: this “feels like FS” stuff is bollox, it feels like a bike with big wheels!
Agreed, although I do think a 100mm 29er FS feels as capable as a 120mm 26er, but again, that’s not that same as feeling like it actually has more travel.
yup, I overshot that one, even with a garmin. It was only said garmin beeping like mad that stopped me from riding tucked at full speed down into Cheltenham.
As already said, wicked event and a real ball buster!
Massively disappointed with 6hrs 10mins (was aiming for 5), was absolutely flying and then at 40km, nothing, just popped. Was then a long old afternoon slog.
As an afternoon’s riding, it was lovely and a thoroughly enjoyable event!
No but you can achieve a similar extraction ratio and all for a few quid. Worth a try before forking out, it’s what I did and actually, the Mokka pot has yet to be replaced.
I’m just challenging the notion that manufacturers are pushing them as something for tall people and then not supplying XL demo bikes. I can’t think of a single manufacturer actively stating that they’re a solution for tall people is all.
Cause the manufacturers aren’t really pushing them for tall people actually, can’t think of any literature I’ve read that has said that either. Both Santa Cruz and Trek actually photograph the Mediums/17-ish” frames from what I can tell.
You Ents banging on about your 29ers and how they’re the future, and then us hobbits want one and you’re rushing to point out they’re not for the likes of us!
I always found sudo creme just soaked in so to speak. Assos chamois cream always seems to last. Tbh though, decent fitting bibs and a good saddle means I find chamois cream unnecessary except for maybe doing a 24.
If there’s any seed of doubt in your mind that you won’t get away with it, you could always mow your neigbour down in your car and hope no one notices he’s missing. Taking lawn’order into your own hands could be risky though.
