True..if it ain’t dry now then it never will be. I might be tempted to have ride there this weekend. How’s badgers?

@tazzymtb I don’t think the chase never really dried out this year. My last ride was a few weeks back and although it wasn’t cold you could almost say it was winter. Very rutted and boggy in places. Off piste stuff around the pines seems to hold up a lot better, whether thats due to less traffic though.

As mentioned earlier…Springslade lodge and around the quarry. Then over Broadhurst Green Road. Plenty to find around there.

Does the shock even have a climb switch?
Doesn’t need one. Designer a genius.

Hahaha 😆 Very good Brant. You are right though it doesn’t 🙂

I am just 6ft and have the Codeine in a medium which suits me perfectly. Even the medium feels big compared to my 26″ large stumpy. It’s a great bike just as good at climbing as it is descending. But saying that, my current “i want bike” is the camber evo. Just looks ace 🙂

Cheers for the replies. In the end I has to contact SRAM Tech and they are sending me a set out on warranty.

Muc Off Ceramic did the trick for me too, been using it since October and have had very little noise/grinding.

I stayed in the pods last year at Bryn Bettws. Not the most comfortable sleeping on a air bed/matress. And the toilet/shower block was like something from the cold war. it was cheap for two of us though, and the sun shined which helped 😀

Prefer to ride all the unofficial stuff on the Chase myself, lots of old singletrack if you know where to look. The dog and monkey are good, just gets too busy at times.

    For what it’s worth……
I love Penmachno. It’s a hidden gem. While everyone else stops off at Llandegla and queues up in a line to go down the next section, I can be blasting down singletrack with not a sole in sight. Now that the new section has been done and with this video, I just hope it doesn’t pull to many people away from their pampered trail centre. The new sections look good to me and will just add to an already top trail. Planning my next visit soon, hope it’s quiet.. 😀

Just looked at the Crud RacePac 29er. It looks like a big wing on the back, should keep you airborne a bit longer 😆

Has anyone used a Blackspire Narrow Wide Snaggletooth Chainring? It’s the only other 94mm boltcircle diameter ring that I can find to replace my SRAM X01-X1 X-Sync Narrow Wide Chainring. Be interested to know anyone’s experiences or whether you think it’s not worth it and stick with the SRAM. The Blackspire is £20 cheaper.

My cassette actually seems to still be performing ok with 700 miles on it. The issue for me seems to be my 32T chainring. Has anybody swapped their sram chainring for another brand and can say that the performance and longevity is still good? I use a RaceFace NW ring on my Stumpy running 1×10 and that has lasted ok. Would be interested to hear if anybody has swapped and can say that it has had no detrimental effect, but has improved longevity.

700 miles in and I think it’s a great bike. There are niggles as mentioned above, mine was hub bearings which eventually Planet X swapped for a complete wheel set. But if you can look past all that then it’s one hell of a bike at one hell of a price. Oh and it does go down rather quickly 😀

At £15 even if it just lasts this winter i’d be happy. I still have a magic shine light I purchased 4 years ago and its still going strong. My other cheap Chinese lights are still going and have the same batteries as this. The only thing that worries me is I don’t leave them on charge in the house or overnight in case the thing catches fire 😆

Yeah you’re probably right rooster, can’t believe it’s worn that much though after 700 miles of dry summer riding 🙁 Also as the problem seems intermittent would you say that was down to a bit of sandy grit getting on the chain while riding? I have been lubing mine with muc off dry lube religiously after and before rides, does dry lube hold the chain that much more than wet lube then?

Yep cheers you are right no washer. Got it sorted now 🙂

I’m getting a lot of grinding now when pushing on rides. It happened today, everything started fine then half way into the ride grinding noise that I could feel through the pedals started. My mate jumped on my bike and as I followed him I could see the chain being held on to long at the bottom of the chaining. Like chain suck. But then a few miles more in I noticed the noise had gone and all seemed fine again. Do you guys think this is just grime on the chain or the chain is worn? 700 miles done on this set up.

A good loop is to do crich chase, on to shining cliff, then over to black rocks and drop back down to the canal for a leisurely ride back. There are so many variations to the riding here it’s just a case of exploring and finding your way.

I’m 6 foot and have a medium. Which is perfect for me 😀
Are they still selling them as they’re not on the interweb site?

I had the same thing happen on my stumpy. It took a small hammer and small screw driver with a lot of patience to get it out. Good luck!!

I’ve just got my shock and brain back from Specialized after their £130 service. Yes it’s a lot of money but the bike feels like the first time I rode it again. Plus Specialized warrant it for another year.

I haven’t noticed much wear on my cassette and checking the chain that seems fine too and have done 670 miles on them. But I do find that it takes an extra second longer to change down the gears. First I tightened the cable and then noticed that the derailleur wasn’t tight to the hanger. I tightened this up but there was still a slight wobble as if the bolt on to the hanger was not tight enough. Is this normal to have a little bit of play? Or is there supposed to be a washer between the hanger and derailleur? 11 speed X01 cassette and derailleur btw. Thanks

Almax 16mm chain here. Worth it’s weight in gold, and it’s bloody heavy 😆
My anchor is bolted to the wall so the chains (2 of them) are off the floor.

I can’t comment on the Gore trousers, but I have the Gore Alp X coat and it is worth every penny. To ride on a freezing cold night and not feel the wind chill through that jacket, and is brilliant when it rains, so breathable. If the trousers are the same they will be very good indeed.

+1 for the cheap Superstar one. Running at Raceface NW chainring myself that kept jumping off on the rough stuff. Not had any issues since fitting this.

My golden rule is, if you want it tomorrow go to CRC or Wiggle. If you can afford to wait a little then shop around. Then Tredz for any longer than that 😀

To use SRAM’s 11 speed cassette you’ll need the XD driver hub for your wheels. I think Easton do one, but you have to do a bit of searching online. This replaces your old hub so you can have 11 gears 10-42. You’ll then need the 11speed shifter and rear derailleur too. It does get quite expensive, so a cheaper alternative is to have a 1×10 set up which there are many to be found. You’ll still use your original hub, derailleur and shirter, and just change to a single front ring from Race Face or Hope for example. At the back you can use a set up like one up components sell. search for them online and you’ll see. 🙂
