Best go with pro 2’s over the pro 3’s. Hope are replacing the Pro 2 hubs used in the Hoop wheel sets with the Pro 2 Evo.
AFAIK this uses new stainless bearings, and a new 17mm arrangement for the rear axle, which will hopefully :) sort all the rear rockshox maxle snapping problems. Should be able to pre-order Hope hoops now from ur fav Hope dealer with the new pro2 EVO hubs.

Did 2 of my bikes last August using Stans. 26″ Captains (s-works front and control rear) on DT-swiss 5.1 rims. 29″ Bonty mud X’s TLR on Giant’s own brand rims. Just used one layer of good quality silver gorilla tape as described in the above clip, after givining em a good clean first.

Both of the above tyres work VERY well for tubless conversions IMHO, and I have been properly inpressesed, as I’ve done many k’s trouble free, and I’m a right big fat clumsy biffer of a rider too;).

I posted this last year in a daft tank thread. It’s pre-soviet, but still barking. I believe they only made the one :)

I have a Large 09 comp, on all the specs it says 120 forks. It came new from the dealer with 130 toras on :) . I replaced them with revs set to 130, (120 felt way too low, and all wrong to me). Dont worry it will be fine.

Not seen this series at all before all this kicked off, but have just now watched on 4OD.

Boyle thrives on controversy. Price makes a living, by being in the news. win/win. Especially if you are channel 4.

oh and PMSL at the time travelling professor.

    re:- LOOSE ZYME POPPER SYNDROME

Several months a ago, I was whining on forum about my zyme popper being loose, when some STW wag suggested twatting the inner bit with a hammer, to “mushroom” it over a bit, worked a treat for me, been fine ever since :)

Happy with 2-bliss the captain tyres:- 2.2 s-works front and 2.0 control on the rear (cause I’m a bit of a fat git need the tougher sidewall on the rear  ) works out quite a bit lighter/cheaper/just as good as using proper UST rubber IMHO. Also running bonty mud x’s 29er Tubeless ready (TLR) plus stans sealant with great success!

Using this guys method ATM, works for me!

I am currently using superstar sintered pads in some avid juicys, front and rear, no problems to report, no worse than the “genuine” avid pads.

    Hope this helps.

I have a Thule 561 which I have been very happy with, untill I got a bike with a qr15 fork, the adaptor (a simple tube) from thule costs £30 8O

Before shelling out on Nixwax, or Grainger’s, you could try re-activating the proofing, by tumble drying on a low setting, or ironing at a low-ish temp, worked for me with a Endura Venturi II. (which uses a ptfe based membrane.)

Just got a call from my LBS, XTC 29er 2011 large is in stock now!, and I can pick it up tomorrow :) WHOOHOO.

er… So what 29er tyres for mud? ;)

    ok no one then…? :(

The adapter from Thule is a simple tube. I/D :- a smidge over 15mm, O/D :- 26mm, and the width of a QR15 front hub. The the going rate from Thule for this tube is £27.00 ukp plus p+p!! 8O Knackers to that, I know a machinist.

So could someone please confirm the width of a QR15 front hub is 100mm ?
    Ta!

Having heard a few explanations today, as to just why the U.K. m.s.r.p of Giant cycles has skyrocketed, compared to other major world markets, the suggestion of "Pirates" by soulrider, wins the prize. Deffo hit the nail on the head there I think.

The spec ticks off most of my "wants" on my wish list eg:- Alu frame, tapered headstock, front thru-axle, lack of the 2010 models juicy three's.

I'm just struggling with the 2011 price hike on the m.r.r.p, vs finding a similarly specced bike for less, I can't at the mo'.

Will probably cave in and buy one regardless, unless of course anyone on here can suggest an alternative. :-)

What really boils my wee is last years bike was (in Australia) 2299 Aus$, this year? 2299 Aus$. The US price, 2010 $2125, for 2011? $2000….. now this being the U.K you would expect a price hike, but 20%!? A**e! :(

I'll take the new MJ-836 model over the other, I think.

It's not just the rubber bung you need to turn around, you must also reverse the yellow plastic bit behind it too. (Pointy end out for schrader to depress the valve, hollow end out for presta)

The catch will be finding somehere that can get you a bike – the large sold out months ago

 Sooooo… it looks like I have to put in an order for the 2011 bike. My understanding is the launch date for the 2011 Giant is the 12th of September, not sure I wont to commit to anything before I know spec, and price. Ah well… (looks forward to a month of thumb twiddling)

TBO the rear suspension on motorbikes has never been considered the limiting factor, some designers in the fringes of the industry, do however spend a lot of time trying to find an alternative to tele-forks.

Mainly to in an effort to separate the "diving" action from the front brake.

..waits for a picture of a whyte to show up.. :-)

BMW paralever suspension is the first to "spring" to mind,(see what i did there :) )the telelever at the front works well too.

Plenty of hard tail motorcycles around, normally with comedy forks and giant oversize rear tyres, almost exclusively used in boutique custom chops see "American chopper" on discovery chan (But don't say I didn't warn you first)

Your best bet is to go to Roger Musson's site[/url] and download his excellent book, there is a small cost, but IMHO there is no finer reference for wheel building.

D'oh, just noticed the number on the turret of ex-pat's tiger I, 131, that IS the Bovington Tiger, right here in the UK, AFAIK only half a dozen complete examples exist in the world, and this one is the only example that still goes :-)

Nice ex-pat, also Bovington (UK national tank Museum) has a running Tiger I.

If you are taking the spesh fsr xc comp for a ride, make sure you take a 2mm Hex with you, so you can tune the rear damping. Behind the red rebound aduster lever (the lockout lever) on the rear shock, is a black metal "stop" move this around on the splines, if you find the rear too active.

    http://cdn.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/pdf/manuals/09_FSRxc_Myka_Manual.pdf

    on page 12

the comp has the X-fusion RC, the expert has RLA, the triad is on the pro.

"on a lathe from a piece of aluminium alloy bar or forged blank"

This is exactly my question :?: , the first being, (in theory) a much weaker than the second.

The majority of shimano hubs are forged AFAIK.

I would be interested to know how CK hubs are made, or Phil Wood for that matter, anyone?
