Depends on the child’s ability. I have seen dads with kids with very young kids way out of their depth, seems more like an ego trip then the childs enjoyment. I have a 4 year old that can get wheels off the ground, but we always go early and stick to blues / little known trails

I do 23 miles each way 1 day and 10 miles each way 4 days a week. Anymore and it effects my mountain biking at the weekend.

    I think the 2.2 is a completely different tread – proper xc/race.

The Shell CEO only took home 25million euros last year, probably does need a hand out.

I use ikon front and rear (the huge 2.3s), not sold on it as a front tyre, but not really sure what else to match it with.

I don’t find it surprising that they are “making a loss” in a country with enforced tax laws, while making huge profits in countries with little to no tax liabilities. Sounds like standard global corporate structure to me.

The big 5 made profit of $177,000 per minute last year, Corporate greed is why low level jobs will be threatened.

Most private schooled adults I meet seem more dependent on mum and dad, but life does appear to be easier for them.

This was not lead by consumers, it was because the big companies stopped making 26ers. Even if you opted for the smaller brands you were worried about future upgrade compatibility.

    The two Alastair Humphreys books
    Miles from nowhere

All very different takes on going around the world on a bike.

Its fine most of the year, but can get very overgrown. From the radio masts there are two paths you can use down to Denton. Where are you commuting from?

where can you buy goldtec hubs these days?

I think the strongest setup is screw on hub + freewheel e.g White Industry, you can change the cogs and rebuild with the WI. I would check his chain tension as that can speed up tooth wear.

Flat bar singlespeed is the way to go if you want hassle free commuting. £500 will get you something nice and light second hand.

you get shouted at if you ride on the road, you get shouted at if you ride on the “shared” cycle paths. I would rather be shouted at on the roads and at least make decent time.

A 14 year old should be able to manage to exists for a few days. You do not help you kids by doing absolutely everything for them. My 3 year old already helps with the cooking and loads the dishwasher.

I will teach him about the stopcock on his 4th Birthday.

only true measure is riding with someone, everyone on this thread would struggle to average 15mph+ on my commute.

Hang on… how do you know, have you ridden with everyone here?

I know because I regularly get top 10s on the strava segments (many with 3000+ riders) on my commute and I very rarely average over 15mph. Traffic, road surface, junctions, students, traffic lights etc etc.. all kill fast speeds.

Calmly ask him over and over again to do it until it is done. After 3 months it will be hell, but he needs to know you will never give up. Do the same the next day, by the end of the week it will not be a problem.
