I have a roadrat singlespeed, it is fun to ride, but frame + fork is really a bit too heavy.

I am looking for a singlespeed frame, non disc and no mudguard or gear bosses, have not really seen anything yet.

i have had a group of lads cheer me up a short steep ramp, even though they were taking the piss I felt like I was in a grand tour for a few seconds.

Had a CD thrown at me.

Had a lady yelling at me as we both traveled at 35mph inches away – turns out my saddle bag had fallen off

I am always battling in laws over this. Apparently my son had to have presents on his sister’s birthday so he did not feel left out, what a load of bollocks.

They also gavee him an iPad as he “needed to learn to use one for school” – I gave it back with a fight

so can can you pedal at say 20mph with a bit of effort ? or is this lost by the extra weight?

First day my dad moved in to his house I parked opposite, the whole street was empty as the other houses all have drives. 2 mins after walking in, a neighbour knocks on the door and aggressively asks me to move my car as “traditionally” their side of the street park there. Everytime I visit it is empty. People must live very unfulfilled lives to worry about such things

I wish we had a permit system on my road. Make it cheap for one car, expensive for the second and extortionate for the 3rd. Many people have two cars + work van or camper van. We have one car and often have to park 5 mins away.

I got a personal loan for 7k paid over 3 year’a for a 3 year old car. It is now 10 years old and I will run it into the ground.

We had a second car bought for 3k sold six years later for 2.7k !

Both cars requied less than £500 a year on servicing and repairs averaged out.

I would never lease a car and now I would never get a loan out for a car.

Can you not pedal faster than 15mph? Also I have seen 1000w kits, guessing there is no way you will get pulled up for it

E bikes make a lot of sense for commuting when you look at them against cars and public transport.

I would be interested in a sub 1k bike that could average 20mph with little effort – does this exist?

So with term insurance can you cover the mortgage + a cash payout? e.g if i die the mortgage would be paid and they would get 100k.

thats really horrible Johndoh, does make you think hard about this sort of thing.

for £15 per month I can get the mortgage paid off if one of us dies – this seems like a no brainer. Not sure if I need anything else – critical illness cover seems to have a lot of caveats.

ok thanks. Your approach seems very sensible. So at the very least I should have a plan that pays off the mortgage.

I do 30 mile round trip plus 20 miles by bus. Thinking about replacing the bus with scooter. For me I view the 3 hours I spend a day as cycling + reading time – not commuting.

The dutch invested in cycling after a high number of child road deaths at the same time as an oil crisis

To go 1×11 I guess I would need:

    – brake / shifter levers
    – front chain ring
    – rear derailleur
    – chain keeper
    – new chain
    – cassette
    – gear cable

probably cheaper to buy a new bike?

I do not struggle up an any of the hills all of which are fairly short and only around 6%, but I have got used to blasting up them out of the saddle.

I have a big backpack on which never bothered me on my short commute, but I am going to try 4 x a week so can ditch it.

Good idea. I have to take the bus as part of my commute anyway so there will be no additional cost.

    Yes 15miles each way, 5 x a week.

Yes I guess I just want to have more energy in the evenings/weekends.

If it’s just about gearing, is there any point in spending the full £1000? You can get a 2013 cadd8 on Pauls cycles for £350

@joshvegas I think you might be right, after 2 months I am feeling burnt out by the weekend. Really its just the head winds I ride along the coast so can be brutal

It will have gears. Never ridden a geared road bike, my gut feeling is it might just be different not faster, especially up the short climbs

The police are useless. All they care about is paperwork. Every time I have come in contact with police they have shown no interest and are often patronising e.g you should have a stereo that is removable.

I get 26 days + bank holidays, but have to take 5 over Christmas and often can’t take it when I want to. Pretty bad really.

Is there any laws about taking holidays on set days?

He has a pretty huge ego, that it very clear after reading his book. He never takes responsibility for his drug taking or tax avoidance. That said, he is bloody good at commentary, provides a lot more insight than the eurosport bollocks.

maybe stop putting (SS) after you name on strava and using your lack of gears as an excuse for everything.

We have been trying to buy for 2 years, prices have risen around 15% in that time making them unaffordable for us. Hoping for a drop to be honest, but I will buy as soon as we are able, there we never be a good time for first time buyers.

If it really was trivial we’d up spending on all sorts of things by £10bn, £10bn there.

yet they can find 85 times that to bail out the banks and fund trident which cost almost the enter NHS budget. There are choices being made…
