I’ll be there in a SPAM 12hr pair. Think we’ve got 3 pairs and a couple of solo’s – depends which club-shirt Mr Klein (from above) is wearing. If he’s on the podium it will be a SPAM one this time 😀
How do, I stand to be corrected, but in general design….min depth should be the diameter of the bolt. So for M5, 5mm depth etc. But as per PP, for something a bit critical like brakes, as long as possible!
Cheers Andy for the organisation. Fun ride and a good turn-out. Pint of Cheddar Valley gave me a ready-brek glow for the ride back to Trowbridge – sweated most of it out going up Pipehouse lane (which was a daft thing to do!) I’ll bring a bag of oats for Tony’s Neddy next time!
Feet wet & muddy already! – reminded myself why I don’t ride the towpath from Trow to Bath when wet this morning…… Kit now making a mess at work – may have dried out for later….to get wet & muddy again!
SPAM SPAM, so good we named it twice! Start pedalling at midday, stop pedalling at midnight! Best event name not to be used 🙂
Anyway, great event & superb lap. I got 8 laps in before helping to sort out the mountain of prizes from Charge. Was tempted to go out for a dark lap, but by that point I’d eaten too much stuff from the Drop Off Bus. Best moment was at the 12hr prize-giving seeing Nick Larsen of Charge frisbeeing tyres into the crowd!
Hope you all enjoyed the event.
See you there Chas, now also on a 29er…. SPAM / BCC race on! Let’s get some local club rivarly going! (off to shed to fit Boudica style wheel apendages)
Am I missing something, what’s weird then?
Yep – great event. Liked the new lap, short sharp climb was a bit of a struggle but I guess better than the long fire-road of previous and liked the shorter road stint; but hate to think what that bog would have been like had the weather been more typical CLIC! So, anybody know how the Tandem fella’s got on – saw them on a couple of laps; and big respect to fella SPAM’er who put in the 12 laps in the 12hr format…on a rigid single-speed.
On to the next event, hope some of you make it along:
Picture not great, just taken with my mobile. Hope 2 hubs with crest rims, fork is a maxle reba. Just getting over a broken bone in my hand – hence only the short ride!
Previous thread with a useful link to a German web that lists a Reba maxle with a 1 1/8 steerer. I was lucky to get the second hand one that Clink was selling; fitted but not ridden yet.
There are some dangerous trees up at Browns Folly, they grab your bike and throw you over the bars….broke my hand up there last week. That’s what you get for riding on footpaths!!
Irony was, I got the phone call ref delivery whilst I was sat in A&E waiting to get my hand looked at after a fall from the mountain bike the previous night. A broken metacarpol might mean I won’t be putting many miles on it soon (although probably more road than off-road miles for a while!)
Been waiting and waiting and waiting. They had a problem with the fork apparently and have had to have redesigned parts made, delivered & fitted. Mine is a theft insurance replacement; hopefully it will be delivered this week!
Have many people had a phone call from CRC? I emailed them to advise I’d ‘suffered’ about a week back; yesterday a CRC fella left a message for me at home offering apologies and wishing to discuss. I guess they are trying to reclaim some goodwill from customers & I guess they’ve got a very long list of people to call!
Mine done as well. A 98Euro spanish rail ticket was purchased which drew attention to Natwest who promptly stopped my card. Since the CRC order, there’s been 1 amazon order, a couple of Sainsbury internet orders & 1 orange mobile top-up and the rest are normal high st / petrol station transactions; so a link can be drawn to CRC. Maybe it is 2+2=5, but a link none the less.
So, which was your ’embarrassed to mention purchase’ from your thread a while back; the frame or the wheels!! Looks nice. Getting my new roadie end of next week; when I do eventually get down to Dartmoor I’ll have to make a weekend of it and bring MTB & road bike!
So, an update….Merlin got in touch with Wilts’ and are arranging to collect the frame. They’ve offered him a good deal on some brakes by way of thanks for him letting them know about their mistake.
Correct thinking; membership of £20 will give you ride entry of £10 for the Winter Challenge & Blast, I think set2rise is a bit more depending on team entry etc – but it is reduced. Plus you get CTC insurance cover. So you’ll be quids in. Your only choice will then be where your loyalties lie: Vegan Running or SPAM shirt!
I’m with M&S and have been meaning to check the small print. A mate has just had an insurance replacement through M&S; all seemed to go very smoothly & he got a very nice bike very quickly…….and then he got advised that he had another £2k to spend – his new bike had only used up £2500! However, they couldn’t advise how his premium would be affected.
So, it would appear he could have claimed up to the full single item value of £4.5K
Yep – my two laps came in at just over 27Km each. The lap had changed from when we pre-rode it a couple of weeks back. The grassy climb where you peeled off to the left, past a marshall in a 4×4, and dropped down before following a fenceline agaisnt a plantation – we planned on going up a bit further and dropping down the other side of the plantation which would have bumped up the Km’s a bit. Not quite sure why the change; I think an area had been fenced off for some grazing cattle.
Not the same route as the winter challenge. This route takes in some of the singletrack (as per the Set2Rise course)around Erlestoke at the start and end of the loop before a leg-stretch on some more open stuff; some grassy ups and downs and a stretch along the Imber path. Pre-entries a bit low, but we do get a lot of entries on the day. Weather looking OK, so hopefully it will be a good event.
SN10 5TX is the postcode for the pub in Erlestoke. Depending on which way you're coming from; you'll either pass the event entrance before you get to the pub – or just carry on a bit furter from the pub if coming through Erlestoke.
Entry on the day available.
Cake stall will be there
Helpful bike shop in Cogolin – up the road from Port Grimaud. 18 months back they had a Brit' working there as a mechanic (with a MTB bias); they hired me out a very nice road bike for a day. I flew over the area from Cogolin in a helicopter a number of times and the network of trails & tracks over the hills looked great – but I never got to ride them….
