To be fair Benjamins, i can asure you that just as much time if not more nowadays is spent training Radiographers to interpret their own images as well as taking them.

not neccessarily always. If the patient had come from the ED the radiographer would take the image and send the patient back and the ED clinician would very often make the descision of what to do with the patient before seeing a radiologists report.

    radiographers have some clinical training

A 3 year BSc honours degree is slightly more than “some clinical training”

Just for confirmation a Radiographer doesn’t just take the x-ray, they also have to assess the image for quality and whether there is any kind of pathology or injury present. In my experience if they believed a fracture was present they would have sent you straight to the ED with a copy of your films and the Radiologist would hot report the image whilst you were making your way there.

Sorry woody but you have confused me about the break thing a bit as i think that you have confirmed what i had said with your counter argument! And what meehaja states also kind of confirms what i thought the situation was. So i’m gonna leave it now as my head hurts :x it doesn’t take much.

It doesn’t work like that as it is very rare that you are on station to start a break every 4 hours. There are ‘banding times’ eg. if you start a shift at 0630 the banding for the first break is between 1000 and 1200. You can be sent to an emergency any time up to 5 hours 40 minutes from shift start

Okay so what would you do if you got a call at 5 hours and 50 minutes?

I was aware that if you get a call you stay until it has finished btw.

Not possible, especially as many work minimum 12 hour shifts with 2 half hour breaks within that period (unpaid BTW). In addition, in my last 4 day shifts I actually worked over 50 hours with late returns so it doesn’t take much working out that is not uncommon to go 6 hours without an official ‘stand down’.

Fair enough, although 2 breaks within 12 hours would allow a break every 4 hours. Does the trust you work for have a policy that states you should be having a break every 4 hours though? and if it does would they defend you if you made a mistake after this time?

It wouldn’t have been just first aid as such though. It would have been ‘advanced’ first aid involving technical machines, strong drugs, advanced life saving decisions to have been made as well as possibly the use of advanced driving skills at high speed!

As a professional he would have to ba able to justify his every decision and his ability to do it.

Don’t get me wrong i don’t think i would have been able to sit there and refuse to go but we’re not the professional first aiders as it were!

All those what if’s to live with

The same what ifs that people who have lossed friends/family because a paramedic/tech was tired and made a mistake have to live with?

I was under the impression that ambulance staff have a legal obligation to have a brake every 4 hours just like HGV drivers? If he had a crash on the way or made a mistake whilst treating the patient he would have probably been sacked instantly! It’s a catch 22 for the Crews really.

In my experience the reason most NHS trusts don’t have MRI scanners for cough! those of larger persuasions is because the scanners tend to be utter rubbish and cost prohibitive!

You do need a fair bit of confidance to speak out and say, “I don’t know this etc”, “i’m not happy etc”

Is it not your duty under your professional codes of conduct to point this out?

We spend around £60-£80 for 2 people but that lasts us for 10-12 days normally. And that includes cat food for 2 kittens.

I’ve got 2 ducks so never buy any eggs, also a very handy supply of lunch/dinner solutions at hardly any cost.

Again, missing the point I think. You shouldn’t need to have bins.

If that was the case why should we need to have litter bins anywhere?

    futuresorange

I was at Llandegla a few weeks ago for the first time. I have to say we were shocked by the amount of litter there was all around the trail. Masses of it!

Trail centres are generally in sections, why not have a bin at the end of every couple of sections?

I had the pleasure of seeing the vulcan fly a display at the Royal International Air Tatoo this year, piloted by Martin Withers who was the pilot of Vulcan 607 from Black Buck One. It really is an amazing bit of machinery and the noise it makes would make Jeremy Clarkson wet himself with joy!

How do you do it before the voluntary ban finishes without breaking it?
I read this as ignoring the ban as it is also time and date limited.01/05 -30/09 10-5. To do it before the ban finishes you would have to ride when the ban applies or you are not doing it before the ban finishes are you?

As you say the ban applies 10-5 so if we've completed the ride before 10 we won't be riding when the ban applies but will be riding before the ban finishes on 30/09…….if you see what i mean!

I do apologise for the obvious lack of linguistic elegance in my original post. What i should have said was that, my friends and i are planning a ride in a couple of weeks that will see us attaining the summit and indeed heading back to base again before 10am.

Obvioulsy i need to sit and think about how i word my responses in future so that i don't risk offending someone again.
