As an aside to those that seem to think a Dad is “bad” for having interests outside of family life…my love of bikes comes from being surrounded by cycling from being a young boy through my Dad’s (RIP) love of the sport.
As soon as i was old enough i was out on the bike with him, then in the bike club with him etc etc.

Surely the exposure to seeing a parent involved in a “positive” activity and that rubbing off or having some effect on the child can only be a good thing?

If Dad was disappearing to the pub/bookies etc then i’d agree with some of the comments.

Deep River, that was a really well put post!

I’m sure there are dads with lots of other interests but I doubt they’re particularly good Daddys.

That’s a bit strong. I’m a Dad to two girls under two and still manage to get out on the bike, tinker with my Lambretta’s, go to scooter rallies and make music. Granted, not as often as before and i can’t be as spontanious…but i can still have some “me” time.

Also, i spend a hell of a lot more time with my girls than mates/colleagues who have no interests of their own. Maybe i’m the exeption to your rule!

    Nice looking bike Sumuri.

The one i’m looking at shows as available on their site. Still need to get it over from Germany.

    What size is yours?

Cheers Rusty, i really like my Bianchi but it’s time for it to go on winter bike duties! The 2011 Canyon with 11sp Chorus looks like a good deal and that’s pretty interesting about Cervelo nicking there ideas!

What Ti frame did you go for out of interest? My mtbs are Ti so it might be nice to keep them all the same! :)

Ableton works pretty well for djing, Sasha and Richie Hawtin use it!!

Sasha has ditched it for his live sets.

But I have yet to work out how to record sets

Audacity or i use an IKey recorder which has been pretty tip top.

We’ve got Jojo Maman Bebe polar fleece suits and waterproof for our two and they seem to do the job.

I like the look of the Buffalo stuff though…

the urban myth in my head has it at three grand an hour

nonk, you are probably not far off the truth. When i worked offshore, each crew change chopper cost circa seven grand to put in the air.

Trail Rat, as you know i’m not far from you and 2ft sounds a bit OTT.

FWIW i used to have a Disco and never had any problems (around your neck of the woods too). I now have a BMW and it’s not moved for a few days now! ;)

I’ve just ditched Traktor Scratch Pro and went back to using USB & Pioneer CDJs. I just couldn’t get in to it. That being said it took me ages to move from 1210’s to CDJs so maybe i’m a bit of a luddite!

How does traktor compare to ableton?

Never used it but from what i’ve heard its more suited to production/remixing rather than live dj’ing.

As a H&S professional….some of the replies above are pretty surprising and disappointing at the same time!

Quirrel, i know where you are coming from. With our first i was exactly the same. When the baby arrived things changed though. It isn’t an instant whack of love though. I felt really paternal, but the love thing comes as they grow and interact. She is now 21 months and i love her more every day (sounds naff i know).

My second is now a whole two days old and the feelings are totally different as i know all the fun and happy days that are to come! :)

Pregnancy is a strange thing though. The first was a breeze, but with the second, my wifes hormones went mental. I’ve spent the past nine months looking for excuses to go out on bike/spend time in the garage/go to work….!

All the best though, it will come together at some point and you are in for a blast.

The Dundee accent should be enough to put anyone off

…sounds like you have a few issues Bob if you took the time to post those pearls of wisdom! What’s the story? Were you:

    a) knocked back by a Dundee lassie
    b) filled in by a Dundee laddie

    c0ck!

Your mum wasn’t that fussy to be honest

    Stunning riposte BoardingBob…….are you 12???

It does have some dodgy areas though (generally the housing estates 1 mile either side of the by-pass)

I think that’s what spoils most peoples opinion of Dundee, as (particularly if travelling in from the north) you tend to past the worst the city has to offer.

Futureboy – valid point, I actually lived in Auchmithie but there’s NO hope of anyone knowing where that is unless they’re from the area

    Fair does! ;O)

To fly in the face of the fashion to slag Dundee off, it’s a great little city.
Lots of regeneration, good university, chosen as the location for the new V&A museum….
If you need any serious help, advice or pointers drop me a line (stevencro (at) gmail.com)

I lived in Arbroath 90-94 and St Andrews 04-07 and absolutely loved both areas,

    Arbroath…that had me PSML!

Unlikely to be a cat cr@pping on tarmac, they usually like to make an attempt to bury it

    Agreed

I have the same problem, multiple cats messing up my lawn

Cats usually dont crap on lawns either, they crap in the dirt where they can bury it.

I must be hallucinating then as i regularly catch the neighbours cats laying cables on the drive, patio & lawn. Either that or cats in my area have really let their standards slip!

    I had my 120d M Sport done.

Not because i wanted to turn it in to a supercar, but it’s nice to have that little extra grunt. Most of my driving is on country roads so the power comes in handy for overtaking. I upgraded the brakes at the same time…don’t really think i had to but grooved and vented discs look nicer! The M Sport suspension is plenty good enough.

Seems odd to me tuning a diesel! I still see a diesel engine for skint flints buses and trains!

I used to think that, but the 1er puts as big a smile on my face from driving pleasure as my old e30 325sport and e30 318is ever did (and boy did i love those cars!).

    How do!

I work in Aberdeen though stay a few miles south.
Uni has an alright reputation as far as i know. There is quite a good student nitelife aswell.
Downsides are becuase it’s the oil capital of europe, it’s expensive. Also (i await flaming) the locals can be a bit strange when it comes to incomers and Union Street can be a bit “interesting” at the weekend.

On a plus note for your sons student life, drugs are easily accessible and there are plenty strip joints and hookers!

The vessel runs a template to the seabed then the BOP/Riser are conected to the vessel (there is some movement in the riser to allow for the vessel moving).
As oblique says, the actual oil/gas can be some distance away and the drill bit is steered using directional drilling techniques.

I feel for you mate. Been through that myself and it ain't nice.

worst feeling in the world, holding a dog in your arms while they put him to sleep

So sorry for your loss. Hardest thing ever to loose a dog

Unless you've been very lucky, i'd say the loss of a human family member is significantly worse!

I went through this with my ex and ended up without a penny.
She was in the process of buying the house when we started going out. I moved in about 6 months later and the agreement was that we'd tart the house up to sell on and buy a joint pad.
I paid her cash to cover the mortgage and paid for the home improvements. She put the house up for sale when i was offshore (3 years later), and walked away with the profits.

Sought legal advise and basically if nothing was written down and i couldn't provide receipts etc for the improvements then i was stuffed.

    She made 40k profit and i didn't get a penny….but hey, i ain't bitter!

    Congrats to you all! :D
I remember the night my first was born. Crazy!!! She's now 18 months old and my wife is 7 months pregnant!!! Nothing can prepare you for it but nothing can give the same rewards….ever.

Evie now points at anyone on a bike and shouts "Daddy"…t'was ammusing for the first few times. Now it's like she has tourettes!!!! Still proud tho!

I a guy pushing what looks like that very bike in Aberdeen train station a few weeks ago. Was that you Trail Rat?
Reason i ask is that the saddle was set up like the foto above and i thought why on earth have a lay back thomson and the flite sitting way forward on it!

Tell me about it! A price worth paying though as i'd rather set myself on fire than live in ABZ. Working there is bad enough!
Nowt like a beer down Stoney harbour on a nice day!

Good luck with the shop though. I keep meaning to pop in for a gander, but i've been hankering thoughts about a new road bike and a visit may well push me over the edge! :?

Nah it was only hundred. It just felt like thousands because it took so long at 20mph.

Nah, only kidding. Scooters are ok, quite cute really. I've got nothing against them. Might buy me mum one.

You do know that all the mirrors were to provide extra rear visibility to see other vehicles bearing down on you, so that you could get out of the way?

Just for info mate, i covered over 300 miles this weekend no problem. 100 of those miles were on the motorway where it quite happily sat at 70mph. Not bad for a 50 year old shopping bike eh?

My missus has a 55 plate diesel. We've had quite a few problems with it and it's not the best drive. It's getting chopped in very soon for a focus.

The point is that those stupid scooters were crap then and are crap now, unless you're an old lady needing to get down to the village to buy some eggs. You'd need a lift back though as the sodding thing would have broken down.

Aye, righto. Funny how me and many others manage to cover thousands of miles going to rallies then without breaking down.

What's your issue with scooters really? Is being into them really any different to being in to mountain bikes???

PMSL that this thread is still going!

Having spent most of my adult life riding motorbikes and working on building sites or in garages, I have met loads of older blokes who would reminisce about their life as a rocker. In all that time, I never met anyone who openly admitted to having been a mod.

Funny that. All the mods (my father included) i know or knew are working class. Much like the other youth movements to follow: the skinheads, football casuals (which is widely accepted as a continuation of mod…not that i'm condonoing football violence),

Mod fashion in particular was a load of toss. They couldn't even get decent motorbikes ffs

That picture is a late 90's/00's scooter with plastic mod mirrors. The whole mirror thing lasted about 6 months in the 60's, but because it was in Quadro it must be true! :) Do some research!

2 Tone wasn't. I doubt that the whole E inspired dance/indy scene of the 80/90's was either. Definately street culture.

    Amen!

mods were just a brand of pop music in the 60's and late 70's, they are not mutualy exclusive.

Tosh. Mod was a youth culture which began in the 50's until the mid to late 60's (although still exists to a certain extent).

Small Faces were the true mods!

    Keep the Faith
