Surely Bikebouy is a troll. No one can be that ignorant given the amount of information and evidence out there. Can they?

may be short lived based on some of the conversations I’ve had today.

Currently planning a number of TARS. Flotel campaigns with hundreds of folk turning up, from all points of the compass who will only be there assuming they avoid the requirements of current WHO guidance. Nearly 3000 people in total. Short lived aye? It’s already evident in the NCS.

You work in the service industry if I remember correctly?

The conversation amongst operators is very different today.

Happy new Speedy @penguinni Very nice it is too! They are lovely watches to wear.

My old Ti one is badly needing a service and a tidy up/valet. I’ve been quoted £280 by a local independent (Rolex trained) which I thought wasn’t too bad (although much more than my car service!). It cost more and was away for over 6 months at Omega/Swatch the last time!

Aberdeen as a city was somewhere I could never warm to, no matter how hard I tried. It has all the ingredients of somewhere brilliant yet manages to fail hard. Because of the oil, there are folk from the whole world over living there, and yet there are no celebrations of culture. Like, at all.
Loads of green spaces and cool architecture, but none of it is maintained particularly well. They concreted over the rose hill a few years back…

This sums up the city of Aberdeen to me. I’ve lived in the Shire for 12 years and worked up here for 20. Aberdeenshire in general is great for all the reasons mentioned previously. The city is so dilapidated it’s unreal, considering the amount of money which has passed through it over the years. I’ve never understood it. It’s been in a position to put itself on the cultural map for decades and did nothing. Wood Group and Shell offered to pay for a bypass in the late 70’s/early 80’s and it was knocked back. Finally it became a thing in 2019! I was in the town centre yesterday and it depressed the life out of me (in fairness most centres are struggling). It’s also surrounded by industrial estates on pretty much all points of the compass. I think the fact that a lot of the workforce is transient has had a negative effect. I’ll be flamed by Aberdonians for saying it but Dundee seems like a working class city doing a good job of transitioning itself into a cultural place to visit. The geography of Aberdeen makes it a little insular also. The other three big cities are less than an hour apart, whereas Aberdeen sits alone somewhat.

@dakuan An SKX body with a Dagaz Fifty Five Fathoms dial. I’m not doing a Fifty Fathoms homage, just fancy putting a watch together that I like.
Will be ordering a ceramic bezel insert and a double dome crystal soon. I have an spare NH36 movement and some hands at the ready.

A bit of colour to brighten up a Sunday.

Just ordered a case, case back and a dial for the next project!

All my opinion, but south and west of Aberdeen are the best options if you choose to move outwith the city. Access from the south has been massively helped by the bypass.

I’m half an hour south of Aberdoom as it’s known and work in the town. Not a hope in hell I will ever live in the city itself. House prices are back on the rise again as oil has stabilised somewhat. I would be very pro Aberdeenshire as a great place to raise kids (my two have lived here all their lives), but not the city itself. It’s shite.

Happy with how this mod worked out. I did plan to do more, but pleased I kept it simple. Dagaz knurled bezel and insert (photos don’t do the insert justice, is a lovely midnight blue). Crystal times low dome blue AR crystal, brushed chapter ring and “S” engraved crown. Just the look I was after.

@funkmasterperp No brag involved, I just find it quite surreal.. I just worked in the one retailer who happened to have a pair in his size (the only pair in the country, which was also my size) so sent pics of me wearing them to his representative and he then bought them.

I worked enough in clothes shops to know there is no brag involved once you become aware of the mark up.

    Always over the patch.

Denim must be raw Japanese selvedge and broken in properly by leaving as long as possible before washing for creases and fades which actually match your body shape.

Quality denim with good footwear is a good look regardless of age.
Cheap denim regardless of what footwear is worn is a rubbish look.

I once wore a pair of Evisu jeans costing £1200 pounds which were eventually sold to Beckham. Fun denim fact.

Gutted. Weatherall has been a constant since Screamadelica and my first forays in to the world of acid house.

Bizarrely, I was listening to Screamadelica on the way to work this morning.

Most of the mountain rescue reports I’ve seen suggest slips, trips and stumbles are the main reasons for call outs among experienced hill goers.

Some of the stuff you mentioned might contribute to that but many of the things you mentioned don’t.

    This.

@tomd I think you are stretching things applying HSE HF guidance to a “recreational” incident.

Firstly, I understand that those involved in this incident were not UK nationals so may have been wholly ignorant of anticipated conditions on the Ben (and potentially unaware of the issued weather warnings, English was not spoken by the group according to a member of MRT on the radio this evening).

Also, HF guidance assumes a level of task based experience, training and competency before a violation occurs. Again, given my para above, this was potentially lacking or at best inappropriate in this case.

I have shaken my head at some MRT reports over the years, but on this occasion I get an impression it was just the ignorant being caught out.

As recommended by others, Cairngorm John is a great book for those interested.

My perspective on this one comes from being a lead incident investigator and HSE professional in a major accident hazard industry who has been involved in writing HF guidance docs for said industry. I also like walking in the Highlands in winter 👍

I have also never referred to anyone as a numptie or reprobate following a proper investigation.

@jimmy (and apologies NW). My dad died quite soon after my first was born and he had an amazing very short bond with her. My second was born a year later and I felt awful that one got the bond that the other didn’t. Now…after time, my youngest is so alike my dad in attitude and looks it’s uncanny. Your dad is still with you and your kid. Just in a different way 👍 Those pesky genes live on.

Doc M boots are the stuff of childhood pain and nightmares.

Redwing, Chippewa or Fracap boots FTW.
I’m still hanging on to a pair of Timbie GTX moccasin boots. The best Timberland ever made IMO.

I “suffer” with it in my right eye. I had three surgeries as a youngster along with eye patches and glasses to try and correct it, which didn’t work.

As above, it’s not really something I’m conscious of anymore. The only time i think about it is during the eye chart part of my offshore medical when I can’t read the top letter with my right eye ;-)

Cheers tthew. That’s the same sellers that I was looking at. Will purchase soon.

penguinni – I had a Nite diver a few years ago (was given it as a Corporate gift). It wasn’t waterproof and it ended up full of condensation. Admittedly Nite were first class in dealing with it, but a non waterproof diver was a bit of a worry.

@tthew did you buy the NH36 off the bay?

I have pretty much everything here to get modding (just waiting on a Dagaz bezel insert). New hands, chapter ring, bezel and crystal. I suppose I’d be as well doing the movement and crown/stem at the same time. I’m going to end up with triggers broom!

My process, minus the tumble dryer as Grangers no longer needs heat.

As a counter to the “don’t wash” comments above (which go against the recommendations of most clothing companies), I wash my waterproofs often.

I use Grangers Performance Wash followed up with Performance Repel Plus spray on (applied to a damp jacket). It doesn’t need heat to activate.

I’ve never had any issues and all my waterproofs bead off properly (GTX/GTX Pro & Event).

What a bonus today. Was having a clear out and stumbled across my old SKX009J which I thought I had long since lost!

The bezel and insert have a ding in them, so ordered new from Dagaz watches. Hopefully shipping doesn’t take too long.

I like that Rado, and it’s a brand I have never really liked as a rule. Looks good.

I’ve got loads of tattoos, all in the American trad style. I don’t worry about them dating as trad tattoos have been a thing for well over a century in pretty much the same form.

    #boldwillhold

I don’t buy in to tattoos having meaning, just get what you like. That said, every respect to those who do attach meaning.

Dunno about cheese, I would say that it’s more just “of it’s time”.

Funny, the bikes/clothes in the video take me back to some happy times when I first properly started cycling.

For some reason, I always get a lump in my throat when I see old men sitting in a supermarket cafe on their own with a cuppa.

Similarly, when you see old folk shopping with their basket, which consists of a half loaf and a pint of milk.

It’s a conundrum. I have just cancelled the insurance for my two and plan on sticking money away each month in a kitty as to date, I haven’t made a claim.

I don’t vaccinate after the initial course of puppy jabs (maybe controversial to some, but I’ve done a lot of reading on the subject, plenty info out there if interested) and I don’t use chemical flea and worm treatment. I use natural alternatives and have never had an instance of either.

Both dogs are on the BARF diet, so works out cheaper than “regular” dog food especially if friendly with the local Butcher.

Edit to add that I get an annual Titre test done on the dogs which checks their immunity levels and negates the need for boosters if the levels are good. This is accepted by all the local kennels.

Sorry to hear that. The last pic you posted is a cracker.

I dread the day when I have to say goodbye to any of my dogs. My kids know the reality that one day they will have to say goodbye to them, so I would just be honest with your teenager, even if that means breaking down. Showing emotion over the loss of a much loved pooch is no bad thing. Might make it easier for them too.
