Great review. This is the sort of thing I like to read on the forum, much better than the usual bickering.

    Thanks!

    This! Many, many times over.

Cracking read, great pics, more please :-)

I got 4 hours out of my 4S last week using Strava for the 1st time – it wasn’t enough for the ride I was on! I lost 9km of tracking and more importantly, no emergency phone (I was out on my own).

I’m going to revert to Cyclemeter for tracking and import the files into Strava. Cyclemeter has never left me with less than 30% battery even on my longest rides

Personally, I like Superstar Kevlar. They felt like I’d upgraded my brakes when I first tried them. Quite a noticable improvement over Superstar sintered. They can wear quite quickly though, but I think this depends on conditions. The first set I used lasted a reasonable time. The second set not so long but it was wetter and riding in the peaks can destroy things quite quickly.

I’ve never had any issues using Superstar pads. Usually next day delivery too.

    Where in Glossop are you?

I live in Simmondley and have the choice of riding off road from Charlesworth (Town Lane) up the Salt Road up onto Coombes Edge and then round to the Pennine bridleway. From there you can go towards Rowarth, Marple and Roman Lakes or towards Lantern Pike and then onto many routes around Hayfield.

You can also just ride up Chunal, once here you could go down to the bottom of Shooting Cabins or turn right at the Grouse Pub and join the Pennine bridleway from here.

If you ride out of Glossop on the A57 towards Woolley Bridge, if you ride down the side of the Gun Inn you can ride off road over Hobson’s Moor and there are a few alternative routes once over this way.

Glossop riders really are blessed with easy access to off road riding and access to the peak without using a car.

OAP above is correct, I’m sure BWD will be along at some point to answer this in a fuller fashion.

Giro Xar ordered late yesterday afternoon, dispatch notice received 8am this morning, delivered into my grubby mits before 11am – outstanding service and a great price.

    I love ordering from Planet X/On-One :-)

I’ve just posted a PSA for the £99 Aldi air compressor that goes on sale this weekend. I think people off here have positive reports of it…

My Reverb came from bike-discount.de and I’ve had no problems. It has the silver collar but came in the correct box and with the full bleed kit.

Delivery was quick and so far the post has performed faultlessly – I’m not sure how I managed without one!

I used KMC ones – I think they’re called ‘missong links’

I also own an ’10 Fury.. When the power spline BB wore on mine I actually couldn’t find anywhere with one in stock that could get it to me quick enough.. Like the previous posters have suggested I purchased a Shimano Deore (£50ish) crankset that came complete with a new BB. Easy to fit and it’s still going strong. Replacement BB choice is now easy as E bike is now set up for a HTIi style bottom bracket.

I built this for quite a bit less than 2k. The frame is 2nd hand but everything else is (was) new…

It was either going to be a Heckler, an Orange 5 or a 575 but ultimately the decision was dictated by what I could get for a reasonable price on eBay (that ruled out the 5). I narrowly missed out on an ’08 575 and then ended up with this.

For the record, I love it :D

I got a PCS9 at Christmas ready for my new bike build. Very pleased with it. Very well made, I would have thought well up to the job of holding your Alpine.

I have no experience of other stands, but I really have to ask myself why I didn’t get one before. Having now owned one I would say it’s an essential tool if you can afford one.

I swapped from Orange to Vodafone when getting an iPhone a couple of years ago. The switch was painless, I find the coverage good and despite concerns about their customer service (I always found Orange above average in this department) everything has been very good. When I upgraded to a 4S in December thy just unlocked my 4 on request, straight away.

I put a 36t chainring on my XT chainset and used a Blackspire C4 on my Heckler build. The guard did have the replacement bolts.

    Thanks for the comments.

The saddle is indeed the Wiggle edition Charge Spoon.

I know the bars are going to be a bit marmite but they were a real bargain from CRC and I figured I’d be messing round with bars and stem length so the we’re worth a punt. I think I like though.

Don’t tell Furious about the initiation rituals though. If I’d have known, I’d never have come out.

I can’t help in terms of a comparison, but I got my Kyle Straits from Amazon for £28.99. I also used a free trial of thier ‘Amazon Prime’ delivery service which meant they were ordered last Friday afternoon and delivered in time for my ride the next day :-)

Anyone know how accurate the size guide is on their website. Just gone through it all and it’s telling me I’m a medium. Just want to know if it’s a bit tongue in cheek or not.

It tells me medium, but I tried a friends medium Nerve XC and it was too small…

I’ve just got 2012 Rev RT’s from Merlin for £281 after using VIP and Topcashback – they’re even cheaper if you don’t need a 15mm axle

I’m also thinking of going down this route.

Am I right in thinking one of the advantages of going down this route is that you can use the whole of the cassette on both front rings?

I worry that I’ll miss the big ring because I do use it (albeit very occasionally)

My favourite are Superstar Kevlar (red). Fitting them to my 3’s felt like I’d seriously upgraded the brakes. Wear rate hasn’t been too bad, but they don’t last as long as the blue ones
