I got given a Jawbone24. You don’t really notice you’re wearing it, it seamlessly talks to your iPhone but the data it outputs is not that useful. It’s mainly a high tech pedometer. The sleep pattern stuff mas mildly interesting but nothing more. Basically. it was a novelty for a couple of days and now it lives on my bedside table :-)

Pub crawl using a 10 berth canal boat. 2 days playing pirates and upsetting regular canal users with excessive (ha!) speed. It was epic.

I find this a good article[/url] to refer back to when people criticise my work – it’s based on video games but has some salient points for most people who find themselves on the receiving end of feedback.

Nice place to live. I really , really like it.

Best to not mention the commuting. Words like ‘hell’ & ‘gridlock’ will appear in relation to commuting by car to Manchester. However, it’s 35 minutes on the train to Picadilly.

When I started mountain biking JMC was a real inspiration and possibly my first sporting hero. I remember being hit really hard when I learned of his death, it was just a shock.

It always reminds me that you really don’t know how long you’ve got on this blue and green ball so you need to make the most of it – Jason certainly did.

A mate has one (aluminium) and seems really pleased with it. I don’t think he’s had any problems with it. He runs his forks at 120mm. He’s filter than me anyway but he’s now as quick/quicker on the downs on the Rockstar. Ridden at trail centres (Llandegla, Gisburn) but mainly the Dark peak.

As gren says – no changes in sizing but their large is snug on me and I wear 32″ waist jeans comfortably. I couldn’t get medium humvees over my thighs…

Is Team Rock Radio on DAB yet? That’s supposed to be good.

Yes. And it’s pretty damn good. No adverts either which is a real bonus

Crests (Hope hoops) on my Heckler. I ride in the Peaks, I’ve ridden in the Alps, I ride trail centres (including Stiniog) and I’ve just been on a jumps course. I keep worrying I’ve got the wrong wheels but 18 months later they’re still going strong (and true). Obviously, your experience may differ but as an 85 kilo, ham fisted rider with little finesse I’ve been happy with mine.

We’ve had a couple. Great, economical and reliable. As already said, seats fold easily and form a flat load space – seats also lift up cinema style and with the flat floor in the back can be quite handy. Great vehicle for hauling bikes as well as trips to the tip. The space inside considering the size of the car is quite outstanding.

The 1.2 is OK but the 1.4 is a better engine, the smaller unit can run out of puff on inclines when fully loaded. Not much in it in terms of economy between the two. It’s difficult not to do 40+ MPG no matter how you drive them.

Early 1.4s can have problems with the EGR valve. This can be cleaned with carb cleaner but is probably best replaced (costs around £120). The did something to improve it as later cars don’t suffer and when replaced the problem went away and didn’t return. Nothing else has gone with either car. Totally reliable.

Downsides? Image, image and image. Honestly, I don’t give a shit. Also, it’s not e most comfortable thing on long journeys. Anything up to around 70 miles is fine. Further and it starts to get tiring but other people’s endurance might be different. That said we’ve travelled down to Devon from Manchester several times. Even the 1.2 will sit at a steady 80 all day long.

Other than that I agree with all the points above. Although only one of ours smelt of Werthers! We’ve started to look at one of the new generation ones as a replacement.

Wolftooth 30T with a Zee mech. No bash or guide. No dropped chains so far.

Similar to above: Wolftooth 30T, 36-11 Cassette, XT Clutch mech, KMC Chain. No bash or guide. No dropped chains. Riding in the Dark Peak.

oh, OK, less than I thought. Could it be a “one bike” bike?

    It’s my “one bike”

    Here’s mine…

150 Revs, reverb and tubeless. Recently converted to 1×10. I live and ride in the dark peak. Its been to the Alps. Its been to trail centres (including Antur Stiniog). I love it.

Good things – bomb proof, even with crests. Likes going down. Makes me smile
Bad things – can be a bit wandery on very steep climbs. Probably not the lightest, but then I’ve never weighed it or cared.

I tried a friends Canyon Nerve in medium. I’m pretty much the same height as you and found it too small for me. I would definitely plump for a large if I got a Canyon (I hanker after a Strive). Their size guide also put me on a medium.

I’ve got a wolftooth 30t, havent dropped a chain yet.

Very impressed by mine. Tried some rough dark peak descents and still not dropped a chain.

It will be fine. The passporte ‘course’ is a nice way to get round the area with some awesome views, it’s not that extreme IMO

I took both to the alps. I ‘used’* the dropper far more than the FF but the one time I ‘used’ the full face I’m pretty convinced it either saved my life or saved me from a very nasty head trauma…

    * I wore the FF all the time

When I went to 2×10 I found trimming the (3×10) FD a pain. I could get it set up OK but it seemed to go out of alignment all the time and became a huge faff. I swapped to a 2×10 specific SLX FD and now have no issues. Other than the odd cable change it’s virtually maintenance free.

Good to know. I was booked in with friends on Saturday but it was cancelled due to snow. The day was only partially rescued by diverting to ‘degla and having a blast around there.

Looking forward to trying again at Antur Stiniog towards the end of April

Easyjet last year for Morzine trip, attached chinstrap of full face to hand luggage (rucksack) and just walked on. They have a gauge for hand luggage size and the two easily fitted in.

I’m going to Stiniog tomorrow and I’ve been to Morzine before so I’m happy to update this post on Sunday and give you at least one opinion on comparisons. Although in reality, while I’m expecting to have a great time tomorrow I’m not sure they will really compare.

A new low, quoting your own post….but looks like no one read it so here goes:

OP – if you’re NW based (which based on your riding areas it looks like you are), call up Leisure Lakes and get a couple of bike booked on their demo day this Sunday at Marple.
I’ve booekd a Yet sb-66c I can’t afford but they’ve got a lot of others (Santa Cruz, Scott, Specialized etc)

Although it’s the North West Mountain Bike Centre isn’t it? I’m booked on a Tallboy LTc on the same day at the same place.

Sorry eightyeight, where can I find out more info on the demo day

Google North West Mountain Bike Centre and give them a call, they’re a really friendly bunch and their demo days are usually a good craic

So how do I start the iDiet

Try this thread. Check Ron Jeremy’s post on the 1st page.

    Thank you.

Why does does this diet seem like a secret club?

So how do I start the iDiet – or at least just take a look at it? Is it just a case of searching on this forum and trawling through posts? Can any one set up some simple links?

Just ordered another to replace the chronically uncomfortable saddle on my new road bike. I think for the price/wear/comfort they are hard to beat.

I’m roughly 13.5 stone and have Crests on Hope hubs on my Heckler – I’m a clumsy rider and they survived plenty of action in 2012 (bike was built in December 2011) with plenty of action in the Peaks and a trip to the Alps. They could probably do with being re-tensioned but they’re still running true. I’ve run them tubeless the whole time.

Every time I see these topics about Crests and weight limits I wince and worry that they’ll explode but they keep on going.

1st Dan in Shukokai here. Gained in 2010. 2012 has been all about earning my 2nd Dan but sadly time and lack of training has conspired against me. My club mixes traditional Karate well with practical applications for modern, real world situations.

I do it mainly for fitness and I also find it has helped with overall stress levels – I find that I can stay calm and controlled both physically and emotionally in many situations (compared to before I started training). If I never earned another dan I would continue to train.

So, would you recommend one for the bars and one for the helmet?

I want to try night riding and everything I read suggests two lights in this configuration is best.

    Yes. I’ve never looked back

(Unless you change tyres all the time, then it would be a bit of a messy pain)

Unlucky I reckon. Week in the alps, was the only one out of 6 of us who didn’t get a single puncture. They weren’t new tyres either.

This. Just back from a first time Alps trip and had no problems running 2.2 RQ UST. I think you were just unlucky

Try giving them a call. I ordered a groupset from them and after ordering realised I’d made an error. I phoned them up and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Started with a polite ‘good day’ in my worst German and a ‘do you speak English’ :-)
