Wait what, there’s a Limbo sequel?

Not directly, but by the same people (Playdead). You’ll see the similarity shine through and not be disappointed

I’ve just finished Inside, the ‘sequel’ to Limbo.

It’s only about 4 hours long but utterly, utterly brilliant and totally beautiful. You could argue it goes a bit flat in the middle but it turns out it’s just getting ready for the finale. Available on Steam and XBone not sure about other platforms.

My tip would be to avoid all trailers, reviews and any other media about it and just play it, trust me.

My experience matches many of the satisfied users above.

Setup is XT medium cage mech, Superstar narrow-wide chainring and KMC chain. I’m happy with the shifting and also the gear range. As mentioned, the anodising does start to wear off after a few rides.

However, on the 6th or 7th ride I managed (and I don’t know how) to severely bend the 42t gear. I’m assuming it was a rock strike as we were caning it down some of the Peak Districts best descents. I have never actually broken a cassette before.

The good news is I bought my cassette from Charlie the Bikemonger and I emailed him about it, asking if he thought there could be a warranty claim. The imported said yes and Charlie sent out a new cassette. All I need to do is swap them over and send the old one back to Ison.

Great customer support from both Charlie (who made sure I had the new one in time for this weekends ride) and Ison for being quick to resolve this for me in a satisfactory manner. Assuming this is a one off I’d happily buy another when this one wears out.

Interesting, a mates Tracer 275 (ALu) had a similar problem. Bolt came lose on non-drive side seat stay and the rear triangle cracked as a result.

Rear triangle was replaced under warranty by Intense (through NWMTB) despite the fact the bike had been purchased in the US. New rear triangle had been redesigned around the seat stay bridge presumably/possibly to put less force through this bolt?

He’s had no further issues (but does check the bolts a lot more often…

No issues here with the 11-42, new kmc chain and superstar I/o oval chainring. Maybe a little noisy in 42 but no other worries

I’ve just had my Heckler done and I’m really pleased. Greasy marks really show up on it though.

These have been great and a few friends have purchased them on my recommendation and been equally pleased.

(they look very similar to the Mpow ones…)

At the risk of hijacking this thread, my missus and the kids have decided that we should return to the Alps for this years family holiday. We’re more than familiar with the non-biking things to do in and around Morzine (Ice skating, Morzine pool, Rafting, Avoriaz pool, Lac Montriond etc) – my question is, are there similar lounging around opportunities in and around Bourg St Maurice? We will have a car if that helps.

Get one bought, they’re not badly priced are they? Cheaper than alot of other options

Not sure my wife sees it as simply as that…

I went to the Cotic demo day this weekend. For background, I normally ride a 2007ish SC Heckler and I live and ride in the Dark Peak but also ride the lakes, Wales, trail centres and in the Alps.

Cy and Paul were brilliant taking time to let us set up the bikes including suspension but also having bikes with different bars and letting us swap stem spacers and different stems. Once we were happy we set off on a short 45 minute loop with two climbs followed by two descents.

Mine was a large and came with XFusion forks, Cane Creek Inline and finished with 2016 XT, including 1×11.

At first I was a tiny bit disappointed in that I was expecting the geometry to feel radically different than my own bike – on the flat it didn’t, at least I didn’t think it did.

The two shortish climbs felt good, I left the shock open as I don’t have a climb switch on my bike and there was little bob and the bike felt very responsive.

Where I did notice a huge difference was when we hit the first descent. Lot’s of cliches will now follow. The bike accelerates really well and just ‘pops’ off things. I got up to speed and felt comfortable really quickly. I felt right in the middle of the bike and could feel both ends of the bike working hard over the terrain. The suspension felt like it worked efficiently all the time if that makes sense, soaking up the bumps while not blowing through it’s travel. First time I’ve spent any real time on a bike with 27.5 wheels but I can’t say I noticed anything different in this aspect.

Bad bits? Not a lot. In the pick it up test, it’s not that light (my Heckler is built quite light) but I didn’t notice any weight penalty when riding. My only other criticism would be the tyres, I don’t know if they were set up tubeless but in retrospect I would have liked to have run them with lower pressure.

For me the bike felt hugely confidence inspiring and I can see why people I ride with on more modern bikes with more modern geometry are faster than me. It felt super stable and I felt quick on it straightaway.

It was really good to spend some time with the people that had designed and developed the bike. Paul was really knowledgeable about different bikes and geometries and was able to explain why they had taken the decisions they had in making the bike. Spent less time with Cy just because he didn’t come on the circuit I did but he was friendly and approachable.

I want one, simple as that. Like my Heckler it will be pretty much my main bike for all my riding and for that it felt perfect. Just have to figure how to afford one…

Undo seat clamp, expose a couple of inches of the post body, use that

    Works for me

I’ve looked at the Escarpe as a possible next bike and on a large the ETT is listed as 620mm and the Reach as 450mm, this seems pretty on point with other modern frames, no?

There certainly isn’t a wonderful but totally cheeky footpath descent heading off Cracken Edge and back towards Chinley. No, absolutely not there and begging to be ridden.

Ooh, just became local to the area so I’ll be sure not to go at an appropriate time and not have a look at that FP off Cracken Edge, and definitely not whilst not having my bike.

    Don’t do this – it doesn’t exist. There’s nothing to see here…

    JMC just had ‘it’.
My 20+ year love of cycling is in part absolutely due to wanting to have just as much fun, whilst looking half as good as he made it.

Of course i’ve failed miserably on the latter – but never the less, its been a great ride so far.

    Thanks JMC

    This ^^

…sums it up well for me.

I was trying to explain to my 17 year old daughter about what JMC meant/means to me last night after seeing lots of posts related to this on FB.

My 20+ year love with mountain biking is in many respects down to reading about and watching JMC all those years ago.

Living nearby, we often pass his memorial spot on Woodhead and I’ve never failed to acknowledge it – pay my respects if you like.

    The uplift is ruthlessly efficient

    This.

It’s so efficient you have to force yourself to take a break from relentlessly downhilling. It’s hilarious.

However, AS is a very grim place in very grim (windy) weather

Got back yesterday, carried mine as hand luggage (clipped to my rucksack). No problems either way. This was Manchester to Geneva and back.

Although, should have thrown it in the bin as I’ve just noticed the crack from the big crash I had…

I have 4 accounts (or users) tied to mine that covers the family. This way you can all have your own lists etc. Two people can watch simultaneously and you get a message and an offer to upgrade if you want more than that.

Not sure about amount of devices but each of us (myself, wife and two teenagers) have it set up on our smartphones, ipads and TVs – at least 8 devices…

    +1 for Chromecast

My kids think it’s the best family holiday we’ve had and they don’t even ‘bike’ (it may have been because I was away biking every other day…)

+1 for the pool at Avoriaz

Also if the weather is good then Lac Montriond is a great place to spend the day

I went 1×10 with 30t up front/36t at the back initially. Recently added a 40t T-Rex for the steeper parts of the Peak District and to give me a bit of a bail out option. Nothing I can’t get up that my mates can with 2×10. I do spin out on road descents but try and keep that to a minimum. Not found myself spinning out downhill off-road. Really pleased I made the change, less maintenance, nice having essentially sequential shifting i.e. not having to shift down on the front, simpler layout on the bars and in my experience better chain retention. Hope that helps.

I’d say no brainer – I got one for my first Alps trip and found it fine, even for all day riding. I think they’re great value and I was massively relieved to be wearing it when I landed on my face at Antur!

Don’t forget to get some goggles

I run a mk2.5 as a daily driver and have done for a couple of years. As others have said it’s pretty cheap to run, utterly reliable and also very good fun at ‘normal’ speeds. I have owned and driven faster cars but for a 17 mile cross country commute I really like it.

Also, in good weather, with the roof down I can fit my bike in the passenger seat with both wheels off (Heckler) and the boot carries my riding gear.

I’d try to get one with heated seats if possible as then you can drop the roof year round. The heater gets warm enough to melt your shoes and your backside will be toasty. My most memorable drive was in winter across the Yorkshire moors on a crystal clear night, roof down, heater on and a perfect view of the blanket of stars above me.

Edit: I’m 6’1″ with long legs and am quite comfortable. I ditched the ‘style-bars’ as they’re bugger all use in a crash and it meant I could get my seat fully back.
