    How do I turn that off so that it only shows me on the elevation page?!

    It’s not a problem I’ve noticed but if you are following a ‘Course’, open the course and before pressing ‘GO’ press the spanner and set Virtual Partner- Off (on by default), and Turn Guidance – On (off by default). That may solve that issue ?

    (mine is a 800 so may be slightly different on an 810)

    I don’t really want to write off a u lock or hardened chain.

    Isn’t a U lock much cheaper than buying a proper ground anchor ?

    I’m sure there are other ways to do this but I found my 800 (with OS maps) that the advance notification didn’t always notify in time. A TCX file with an embedded cue sheet works, for me, very well. I used RideWithGPS and it generates a cue sheet with the turnings on ..then on Export is option ‘Notify before turn’ and an option to specify how many metres in advance.

    Examining the contents of the .TCX file I can check it has the correct detail…it has ‘CoursePonts’ (instructions in the Notes) at the end of the file like this:-

    <CoursePoint>
    <Name>2nd exit B</Name>
    <Time>2015-03-31T22:32:15Z</Time>
    <Position>
    <LatitudeDegrees>53.72179885518312</LatitudeDegrees>
    <LongitudeDegrees>-1.86387494957743</LongitudeDegrees>
    </Position>
    <PointType>Straight</PointType>
    <Notes>At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Barum Top/A629</Notes>
    </CoursePoint>
    <CoursePoint>
    <Name>Commercial</Name>
    <Time>2015-03-31T22:41:45Z</Time>
    <Position>
    <LatitudeDegrees>53.72097580933216</LatitudeDegrees>
    <LongitudeDegrees>-1.8615295233303988</LongitudeDegrees>
    </Position>
    <PointType>Right</PointType>
    <Notes>Turn right onto Commercial St/A629</Notes>
    </CoursePoint>

    I felt that on a recent group ride that I was generally aware of upcoming turnings before others in group who I presume were relying on the GPS to auto notifications.

    oh yeh…before starting chose course, settings , turn guidance on

    I wish they would add an ‘unlike’ button as I don’t want to get into a debate every time I point out the link they just shared is racists / stirring up hate. Perhaps an anonymous ‘Hey are you really racist hatemonger ?’ button if they don’t want to add ‘unlike’

    they got me on this too…and my renewal ‘reminder’ also got ‘lost’ in the post too (very unusual for me) so the first I knew was when I saw my back statement. I’d not say that they clearly state that this will happen but agree it was in the small print underneath the application – they may have made it clearer now as it has upset a lot of people. I won’t be rushing back to them. Lesson for me is not to pay any of this stuff on a debit / credit card, it’s better to set up a direct debit and then cancel it after the payment. At least a direct debit is in your own control where as the continuous card payments require the other organisation to agree to stop collecting.

    or company lease vehicles. My previous car had been owned by Avis so assume it was an hire car but other than a few small cosmetic issues it was great and only had a couple of minor issues in about 6 years.

    Hi John, you may remember that I’m in the unique position that I also worked at your employer (as a contractor) just before you. I had 10+ years of the PICK / Databasic / SB+ skill set but now work in ASP.NET C#, VB.NET and ‘web technologies’.

    I don’t think a course will offer you much on it’s own. I did one ASP.NET which cost (my employer at the time) over £1K may have been nearer £2K. There is only so much that can be covered in a week, the course tried to cover so many topics that each ends being nothing but an overview. What I found far more valuable is working on my own towards the Microsoft certifications with a couple of books and the internet then taking the exams. Some people dismiss the exams but they have opened doors for me and convinced people to give me a chance to prove that I could do the job.

    An exam / course without any experience of using it is going to be a struggle to get a job on it’s own but perhaps if you get into a place where that technology is in use it may help you to move over and gain experience.

    good luck in whatever you do.

    p.s. I couldn’t just ‘do SQL’ for a job but that’s just my preference. I have to write plenty of SQL which is an interesting diversion but I couldn’t imagine being all that I did. Personal preference though.

    That Tiagra crank sure is ugly. Okay, it’s not a good enough reason to choose one over the other but I wish Shimano could make some nicer looking cranks (Ultegra is marginally better looking)

    I’m running a Decathlon rear wheel on the turbo which was about the cheapest at the time but I’m not sure if it’s 11 speed compatible

    An old electric drill and large wood bits to drill through the large roots (dug around 1st) and a spade through the small stuff and to finish off where the drill has left a bit. Worked quite well for me. It was quite satisfying hauling out each large root but still hard work.

    When buying secondhand, just make sure you’re getting a proper track bike.

    this…someone was trying to flog one at our club until someone pulled out the tape measure and noticed that the height of the bottom bracket would have meant it could not be ridden at Manchester velodrome.

    just checked:

    Specification of a Manchester Velodrome bike:
    Track bikes must have a fixed wheel, 165mm cranks, and 280mm (11″) bottom bracket height (measured from floor to centre of bottom bracket), no braze ons, and must have track ends.

    I’m tempted by a side helmet mounting

    Mine should be here today. Reading reviews suggests that it’s a little heavier than some so I’m thinking top of helmet so it’s not pulling to one side.

    Have a think when and where most your riding will be. If you will be frequently riding steep downhills with tight turns (in wet and grime) then I think the discs have an advantage (my pair of ‘quickly’ worn mavic open pro rims support this theory). I bought a cheep disc braked winter bike and don’t have to grimace at the sound of the rims being worn away.

    from my experience of 7 years with a 2nd hand Mk3 1.8 petrol Mondeo it was the most reliable car I’ve had. Was very happy with it and only really changed it out of boredom.

    Just waiting for mine to be delivered. I’d be happier if I knew the (local’ish) person who drove at, assaulted me and jumped on my bike had a conviction / caution for assault and dangerous driving rather than only the criminal damage he admitted but no evidence / witnesses (& police inactivity) and his willingness to lie gave him an easy escape.

    p.s. a smashed wing mirror, done accidentally / without intent, was the catalyst for all this…not a course of action I recommend to anyone. take care.

    Not a lot of rider feedback on them though but I’m thinking of some new wheels and these always look good value for the weight.

    I didn’t know the dealer could still purchase the tax for someone else so I didn’t even ask for it to be included. The dealer just pulled up the DVLA website and read me the number off the V5 and let me purchase the tax online whilst I was there, but I paid for it.

    I think mine is great for battery life. Mine lasts days (I’d guess around 5) but it’s not actually doing very much much – checking time, odd call and text and checking emails. Okay I’m not the most demanding user but my old Galaxy S2 (with old battery) had to be charged pretty much every day for similar use.

    I find mine a bit temperamental…use it in daytime for safety and sometimes it has stopped mid ride without me noticing. Turn it back on and it works fine and the battery isn’t dead. I have 2 batteries and I’m not sure if the problems are linked to a single battery but it’s been like that since new (& should have sent it back). Also had some problem with the switch where it wouldn’t change modes (only happened the once but I’ve kind of stopped using it) I think it’s a very good light when it’s working.. not sure if it might be a bit heavy for a helmet light..guess it depends what you are comparing it to and used to.

    if your SPDs don’t cause you any issue then I’d probably stick with them, at least you get the benefit of 2 sided entry. I’ve just taken SPDs off my winter bike but only so that I can use the same shoes across all my road / turbo / winter bikes.

    I preferred the Atera Strada DL 2 after sending back a ‘Thule EuroWay G2 3 bike’ . Now sold the car and now will be using roof rails rather than towbar.
    [cough] I’m selling the Atera, used 3 times,it’s the 2 bike but have the 3rd bike adapter (not even opened this package). Looking for pickup – Rochdale area. drop me an email if interested.

    I suspect my home insurance won’t be sufficient.

    wouldn’t it ? ( I really don’t know) I found BC were useless in my situation (once the driver left the car assaulted me and jumped on my bike)..wouldn’t help me because the driver was no longer a driver and no longer covered by his car insurance. If I’d wanted to pursue the damage further I think my household insurance would have been interested as they cover my bike.

    Virtually nothing but altura. No choice means I don’t go back I’m sorry to say.

    I found Altura quite refreshing after every other bugger only sells Endura. I also bought some Etxeondo stuff.

    about time I had a look at Keith Lamberts in Bingley again. Now that is where I bought my first ‘proper’ road bike. Only been to Chevin in Skipton once (a weekend) it wasn’t exactly buzzing considering the size / number of staff…whereas when I popped into Blazing Saddles in Hebden one weekend and they were struggling to cope with the number of customers.
