IME the holes in most lube bottles are too big for accurate apportionment in the drippy style.

To improve on this I equip the lube bottle with a short piece (c. 40mm) of one of the extension straws commomnly included with cans of WD40/GT85. This allows consistent drip application to be done.

To facilitate insertion of the straw into the nozzle of the lube bottle I first insert a bradawl into the hole to expand it so that it’s slighly bigger than the OD of the straw. After withdrawing the bradawl I quickly insert the straw into the expanded hole. The plastic nature of the nozzle allows the hole to shrink onto the straw and provide an adequate seal.

Have you checked your mains powered leds don’t have a high frequency flicker

Not noticed anything untoward so far. Was 100% fluorescent tube before upgrade and never had an issue with them either.

Lathe only goes to 1000 rpm  (and rarely used there) so probably too slow for anything to show.

Never mind the lights, loving the round top Colchester Student lathe

😊 Cheers. You need good lighting when pottering about on a lathe. It’s a 1953 model that I got for free from work. It had been left outside, uncovered, for 3 years. Cleaned up and converted to single phase. Keeps me out of mischief 😁

I fitted 4 LED battens from Screwfix (replacing 4x old 5 ft fluorescent tubes). The difference in brightness is phenominal. I retained an existing (more recent) twin 4 ft twin fluorescent fitting too.

What about a folding walking stick – perhaps with a modification to the handle to make a ‘Y’ shape??

That ‘Bastard’ stuff above reminded me of an amusing incident at a badminton match.

At one pont our man made what his opponent thought was a dodgy line call and in the ensuing ‘discussion’ the opponent called our man a ‘cheating bastard’. Our man, somewhat taken aback, asked the opponent ” did you just call me a cheating bastard”. To which the opponent said “No, I called you a cheeky bastard”.

There was much laughter that night.

@squirrelking – cheers – it’s just a normal pressure washer with a water inlet from a hose (or other source of H2O) and on outlet to the lance.

The pump is mounted on the tubular frame and the drainage pipe is an easily removable cover. Accessing the motor/pump in the orignal plastic housing is a nightmare!

My Nilfisk pressure washer developed a fault and the part required was not avaiable. So I bought Nilfisk Pressure Washer with a damaged housing and some missing bits off ebay and set about mounting the motor/pump in a new housing.

Frame is made from 40x40x3 stainless square tube (material rescued from scrap bin of old workplace). Body is a bit of 14″ corrugated plastic drainage pipe. Lid is a 14″ non-slip drinks tray from ebay.

The Green Trail (off the fire road down form the Skills Loop) is great – nothing technical but you can really flow along at some speed. We genarally do two laps of that and then some bits of Blue and/or Red as mentioed above.

Just to add to your confusion I have a Shimano Rokko 16 which I got to replace a Camelbak Mule LR – on both of these I don’t use a bladder.

The Rokko 16 is perhaps too big at 16 litres but the Rokko 12 is available – Rokko 12

So far I prefer it to the Camelbak as I find it more stable.

Any areas in and around Stirling we should take a look at?

When your up have a mooch around the Falkiek area lots of nice bits with cheaper housing than Stirling – also see The Kelpies and The Falkirk Wheel.

There are bike trails at Callendar Estate in the Falkirk area and Carron Valley trails are 20 minutes to the West. Of course neither of these are particulary challenging and as a result are derided by many 😃

Callendar estate MTB trails in Falkirk are smooth but not long – Falkirk MTB

There are a few ‘Black’ bits which you have to look for but in the main the level would be akin to the Green level of Glentress. You can do several laps if required.
