When I built up Mrs Fruitbat’s Mk4 Soul the rear brake screamed (weirdly, my identical bike didn’t). It was fixed by changing from resin to sintered pads.

We used a company based in the Lake District to transport a car from Denny to Whaley Bridge.

    PM if interested.

What about the cost of the components? When I built our two bikes up I chose not to go 1x entirely due to the silly costs at the time (that was in 2017 😳).

Heinz Sandwich Spread (for cheese sandwiches etc). – a delicious blend of salad cream and wee bits of veg. The latter component counts as one of your 5-a-day.

On our journey from Denny to Glasgow (via Kilsyth, Milton of Campsie, Balmore Road, Boclair Road, Bearsden, Milngavie, Anniesland etc) we spotted one house with Union Jack and bunting in Banton.

For those who do not know that mainly a list of the most middle class bits of central Scotland – so nothing there is very telling

We can conclude that there’s probably at least one Rangers fan in Banton

Another luddite on tubes here. Both our bikes have tubes and we run 21psi front and 24 psi rear with 2.25″ x 650B tyres on 19mm inside width rims. I guess we’re lucky with the terrain we frequent but we have survived the High Peak area (Mam Tor etc) without incident.

A friend who owned and ran a bike shop for years is also a tubeless refuser. He frequents much rougher routes than us. He’s seen to much faff setting up tubes for customers.

For the complete stereotype we’re still on 2x 10 drive trains.

Bird (Blue Tit) nesting box made from a ground drain silt trap, topped with a nose cone for for guiding flue liners. Oh, and the supporting bracket is a foot mounting for a Hydromec worm gearbox.

I don’t need any correction for distance but I need +2 for reading the bike computer so I’ve been using these Bi Focal safety glasses. Similarly I’ve also got a pair of these from Rapid Eyeware.

I have a pair of Tifosi glasses which I like best but they have plain lenses. So I’ve taken a pair of lenses out of the voltX glasses and cut them so that they fit the Tifosi frames 😎😎.

For 25 years I worked as a Design Engineer and Drawing Office Manager – for a company that manufactures boiler cleaning equipment (aka Sootblowers). I retired early five years ago.

I really liked my job as I had relatively free reign to do what I thought was right without any real pressure from upper management. At one point I even managed to get a (joint) world patent on a new design we came up with.

However, at one point, late in my career, said upper management decided to appoint a Technical Manager to be in charge of me and my group. This person was a Fellow of the Instutution of Mechanical Engineers. Holy sh1t he was an ar5e of the highest calibre and a real disgrace to the engineering profession. His big contribution to the company was to change my job title from Engineering Manager to Principal Design Engineer. During his short tenure (he was sacked after only 1 year) his effect on my attitude was profound and was highly instrumental in my determination to retire early (I’d always planned to retire at 60).

Now I potter about with riding bikes, engineering stuff (still use Soilid Edge 3D CAD with a home license), fixing cars and bikes and making stuff on my lathe. Retirement has, so far, been fantastic.

I worked in a company that used ‘metric feet’ for its systems.  So 3′-7″ would be 3.58 ft. Similarly 1m was 3.28 ft.

Completly mad as the company sold stuff rounded up to the nearest cm.

Had a look at OS and read this ”
    <div id=”savelost” class=”cms_faqquestion cms_faqactive”>”Why have I lost my downloaded maps?</div>
    <div class=”cms_faqanswer”>

The most common reason for this is because you have logged out. As all downloads are linked to your OS Maps user account, they will be deleted if you choose to log out”.

That sounds the same as the OA statement.

    </div>
I’ve taken the plunge and opened a MM account.

I think OA is about to be dumped by me! I’ll have a look at MM and OS I’m like murdooverthehiill and just need reliable access to maps and am not too bothered with route planning and fancy stuff.

Tried OA today in a no signal area – cue much swearing as I couldn’t get it to use the offline map that I thought I had previously downloaded.

It seems that downloads are deleted when you log out of the app. So you can’t use OA unless you plan ahead and make sure your downloads are present before entering a no signal area.

Does the same happen with the OS app?

Re. the rotate while zooming issue. I found that if you poke the compass icon at top left – it changes from a white disc with grey outline and small black pointer to a plain white circle. When in plain white circle mode the map doesn’t rotate (North at top) while pinch zooming.

If the map is left untouched for a period the grey outline returns as does rotation while pinching. Weird!

Do that, and then tap in another thread for another grub screw or a collar with said thread if the frame isnt thick enough. File the inside of the stuck one smooth with the inside of the seat tube. New clamping thingy on the other side?

Presumably the seat tube is thicker at the front to allow a grub screw to fit. It looks like the rear is too thin for a thread.

Try my solution first and if it fails then your solution using an external collar would maybe work.

Right, I see. None of the commenters in the last hour or so have looked back at the photo’s clearly.

I looked and the solution I’ve outlined is workable.

How about drilling a hole in the rear of seat tube directly opposite the grub screw. Then you could drill into the grub screw from the rear hole. The grub screw should be drillable as it’s relatively soft (ideally you want a centre punch in the screw). When the drill goes through the grub screw, drilling will stop when you hit the harder hex bit. Then pass a punch through the hole and knock the hex bit out.

The screw can then be removed by a decent hex bit or allen key.

The additional hole in the frame will not significantly weaken the tube and it can be plugged with a bit of silicone or a nice sticker.

Take care if using bare MDF and you have bare steel in the vicinity. I put a bare MDF shelf up near my lathe to store lathe tooling. After a while I noticed that the tooling and the lathe adjacent had a layer of corrosion forming on the bare steel.

Having now painted the shelf the corrosion phenomenon has disappeared. I Googled MDF and it does appear to be acidic and can promote an acidic atmosphere.

The number 9 is a bit strange too, Thus:

    1*09=09 and 0+9=9

    2*9=18 and 8+1=9

    3*9=27 and 2+7=9

    4*9=36 and 3+6=9

    5*9=45 and 4+5=9

    6*9=54 and 5+4=9

    7*9=63 and 6+3=9

    8*9=72 and 7+2=9

    9*9=81 and 8+1=9

    10*9=90 and 9+0=9
