brant
Half the 18s are made. 20s and 16s done next week.

Re email conversation: Will I be able to try sizing before my order for the 20″ arrives up here in Scotland then?

any chance of trying one for size (preferably in the edinburgh store) then brant? Went to the scottish bike show (twitter had said you’d have one there) but was told the show bike had been nicked for a magazine writeup?

I think that size guide needs attention. That’s odd that.

While you’re at it have a look at the fireline guide – there’s a 19.5″ and a 21″ guide, but that doesn’t apply when there’s only a 20″ option

5’9″ perfect on a 16.

Depends on the person’s body shape, owning an 18″ Fireline (at 5’10”) I need a layback post and a 70mm stem to make it work at all for me – couldn’t get any weight over the front wheel otherwise – so should probably be on the 20″ – the codeine isn’t THAT much longer

start off by reading wheelpro

It’s a good read, have some patience, building wheels is very straight forward as long as you take your time and do it step by step

Once you start getting onto taller forks, be that 29er or longer travel it makes a significant difference, but at his weight he won’t have the muscle or weight behind him to make any difference. If you’re that worried about the security, you could always go for a 9mm “maxle”

I’ve only been waiting for the codeine since November

I’m similar, but been waiting since the first pictures were released last year in Feb! Hoping to see it at the Scottish Bike show next month.

Why? Because I would like a full bouncer again, the spec for the money is unreal and I like big wheels and going downhill fast

yup, got them on my Fireline, were previously on my trek superfly al. Love them, stiff, adaptable previously had them as a 2x setup, now on a single ring setup, lovely to install, the pretension lockring makes things nice and simple.

And … lifetime warranty… had a friend whose square taper ones broke after over 10 years on various bikes including DH and polo rigs… they asked for a photo and dispatched a new set the next day. Awesome service, great cranks!

Also got mine from activesport, no troubles with the service there

XT M755 4-pot brake. 10 years, 3 sets of pads, utterly reliable.

POSTED 19 HOURS AGO

Blimey… do you not ride? I’ve gone through new sintered pads in a single ride before (admittedly a wet 10utb) usually go through about 2-3 sets a year

Waiting for the Codeine. I don’t care what other people think, I like the way wagon wheels ride, and want to have a mid travel full susser back in my quiver, preferably something gravity oriented. I have lightness and climbing prowess in other bikes

I built up a set of superstar’s sentinel 29er rims onto Hope Pro 2s… very happy with them. 21mm internal width, so not as wide as the P35’s but they’ve been running true and undented since september on the local trails in the scottish borders. (I destroyed a set of what a lot of reviewers called “bombproof” bontrager mustang rims before going to these)

I use Middleburn RS 8 X-type cranks. I had a double on there, now run a single ring, can change spiders for whatever you need and the lifetime warranty is amazing… stiff enough to run on a DH or jump rig, light enough for XC.

Can get them from Activesport

Superstar Sentinel Rim

I’ve built up a set of the 29er version of these on pro 2s. I smashed a set of the “bombproof” Bontrager mustang rims up before this. These have been abused a lot, and I’ve had no problems, think a rebranded stans flow but lighter and you won’t go far wrong

Where are you based… I was running a 26/40 on my 29er with a 36t cassette here in the scottish borders and could get up everything on that… have now gone to a 32t single ring and can get up most things… but then I’ve got the legs for it… you should only really need the 38 for the downs (or tailwind flat bits)

From what I understand it wasn’t overly well subscribed this year and and huge numbers of marshals for not a lot of riders isn’t sustainable…

My Steel Single Speed Avanti. It’s not light, might not be the fastest thing around, but it handles impeccably and always puts a smile on my face (and when you don’t have the gears you don’t miss them, neither up, nor down)

The police have just returned the bike to me, very helpful bunch. The other party will be charged with theft, if I hear more I will let you know.
Very glad to have the bike back, best birthday present I could have wished for. If anyone has a bike go missing in the area, I’ve been given the contact details for the plain clothes police recovery unit, so get in touch as they’re your best shot at getting it back!

Thanks again to Brad at Edinburgh Cycle Company, heading down there with beer and cakes shortly!

The thief tried to sell the bike to the Edinburgh Cycle Company, who caught him on CCTV and got all his details, the bike was then recovered by the Police this afternoon. They will be returning it to me about lunchtime tomorrow.

So a big thank you to Brad Howe at http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ and thank you to St Leonard’s Police station officers and thanks to everyone for sharing the details of the stolen bike and getting the message back to me!

Looking forward to being reunited tomorrow 🙂

I was heading down to the bikeshop for the bust, but was asked not to by the police.

Will keep you posted what happens with the twonk that nicked it!
