Another stooge owner here (mk4). Also run a genesis longitude mk1 with 29×3 front and rear in SS form with jones bars (though looking at the Koga Denhams if I can get hold of a pair)

Finally at this time of year the Genesis Vagabond gets the SS treatment whenever the marathon ice spikes need an outing.

Prior to those it was an Avanti Kiss that did SS duties.

    @rstephenson
something like the surly singleator is ideal for that sort of conversion.

Not the prettiest crosswind landing for sure, no decrab or into wind aileron for touchdown, but I don’t know what the A380 standard technique is.

Aircraft have crosswind limits. (A few with granddaddy rights like the Jumbo jet it’s a demonstrated limit so you may go above it at your own risk, but that will be down to each airline to decide in their procedures) If it’s outside those limits you can’t fly an approach and need to find a more into wind runway. Also much more importantly if the pilots aren’t happy, they won’t do it. They want to go home too.

Last Monday watched an Etihad aircraft divert from Munich to Milan to get to an appropriate airfield.

As above the small print always says the spec on the website may be changed. Usually because of stock shortage. Xtr being delayed so much caused quite a bit of this sort of thing.

Also if the sprockets are 3/32 I found the 1/8th chains have enough wriggle room so they can drop. Never had any trouble with a 3-8 speed chain with the same chain line in my experience.

None of the above are Whiskey as that’s all Irish. Whisky is the Scottish stuff. the Aldi own brand speyside is an award winner and a nice soft intro, other go to favourites are Macallan and Aberlour.

Avoid Islay, Skye or Western Isles Malts as they tend to be very smoky so not as good to start on. The older it is the smoother it gets.

Best to have it in a nice heavy whisky tumbler try a sip, then add a (small) drop of tap water. Don’t put ice in. It just locks all the flavour in and dilutes it at a rate you can’t control

The fox proframe is very comfy. I can ride in mine all day. The only downside is needing to take it off for a drink out of a water bottle (so use a drink bladder) and everyone thinking you’re out for a gnar ride every time you wear it. Top half is cooler than my giro hex and the chin is so airy that I’ve not had any issues with that either. In fact my face still gets as muddy as before

Another +1 for bikeyoke. Lovely bit of kit. Lever action is so much nicer than on my reverb.

I like to have a bit of platform to stand on for my gnarpoon, not just a straight clip so at least you can stand on the pedals after you unclip.

On a separate note that looks like a fantastic trail. Where is that?

Caution that looks like the one for the pro II, not the evo! They are two different axles!

Murmor. 470 reach, 63HA, 160 fork, 35mm stem and 820 bars. I’m 5’10” could probably have added a bit more reach with the stack height as it is but absolutely loving it

We’re talking about the Murmor, so you’re right, I do apologise. Geometron long is 460mm and 64.2degrees in slack setting for the 29er. So it is longer and slacker. I apologise.

Really loving my murmor. I’ve got it long and slack. Pedals well enough up, descends like a demon. It’s not light, especially with the kit I’ve put on (33lb build) 63deg head angle and 470mm reach is slacker and marginally shorter than a geometron. Prefers sit and spin to mashing pedals. Still fiddling with the x2 to get it set right (need to borrow a shock wiz). I suspect it needs a volume spacer as it feels a little linear, but never bottoms out harshly. You do need to get weight over the bars with it being as slack as mine but that’s the idea. Rails turns. Rear tire clearance is decent. I’ve got a 2.35 Hutchinson toro on a flow with good mud room. If you’ve got specific questions please ask. With the weight it’s not for everyone, but you could build it significantly lighter. I just have a tendancy to break bits. It’s my pride and joy and it’s beautiful Joe is sound to deal with as well.
*edit* it rides a lot lighter than the scales suggest

Obvs. If you want to roll slower, corner and brake worse – but get a bit more pedalling traction…

I can’t account for the discrepancy between the two, but the baro altitude will write rightly say you’re higher or lower than you are, based on the fact that it’ll be using a standard pressure setting. So if you’re in the middle of a massive high it’ll tell you that you’re lower than you are, if you’re in a low it’ll tell you that you’re higher than you are. The barometric altitude on a GPS tracker is only useful for measuring the difference in altitude over a ride and will be affected by changes in the weather

As you pull the brakes the front wheel gets more weight and therefore the tire compresses, tread widens and generates more grip while the rear gets lighter and the tire decompresses and generates less grip. So something like 70-80% of braking power generally comes from the front, but you should be using both to slow you down. The brakes boiling is usually a symptom of dragging brakes. Brake when you need to slow down, release for the rest of the time. Suspension works better and you go faster

I’m liking the revive too, easy install, lovely action. remote is miles better than the reverb.

Love the handling, find the rear dropout on the mk1 a nuisance, as it kept sliding then one of the tensioners broke. Replaced it with some dmr chain tugs with integrated mech hander and a decent qr. Much better. Climbs well, much better than you’d expect (done a few 45+km 1500m climb days on it) descends like a raving Looney. Hooligan fun bike

I’ve got the 710 loops on mine and it suits it really nicely op, enjoy. Heads up though needs a longer stem than a straight bar

Standard recommend what you have post of a last fast forward. It’s a 29er. Mine’s the large which has a 450mm reach and 64° head angle so long and slack. XL is a 475mm reach. You’ll need to redish the rear wheel on its 135mm hub (took 30 mins to do mine) but otherwise standard fittings

I would agree with you, Schwalbes are a good idea especially on the back as rear punctures are a real faff. The 3 speed gives you a hill a flat and a downhill gear, the 2 speed is lighter and gives just the accelerate or hill gear and a cruise gear. If you’re regularly going to carry it any more than a flight of steps weight is important, if not go for the 3 speed. I’ve got the s2l and find the riding position much more comfortable than the m. There are shops from which you can rent either for a day or more or at least have a spin on either 2 or 3 speed models. Worth doing if you’re still unsure. Also definitely get the front block as you’ve planned!

Couple of the lads were up there Friday and it looked good. Quarry/DD hold up pretty well, rae Lees wood/Sunderland Rig does not. Buzzards will be great. Last time I rode it a few months back ginger mullet and stony knowe needed some work. It doesn’t do well from being over trafficked like that enduro at any time of year really

Don’t know the Farley in particular, but see the plus bikes thread re slop and big tyres. The wider the tyre the more it floats across mud rather than grip through it. Tyre choice is still key, but nothing works as well as a 1.8 mud spike in real mud

Parents did it about 15 years ago on a tandem, I was a bit young so spectated. the atmosphere was great, there are people of all sorts of speed/ability. Apparently the beat bit was the blueberry soup which is there every year. Lots of stops where you want them. Top Tip from a spectator was to unclip before stopping at the finish. Loads of dominoes…

    – That Longitude looks a lot of fun.
    Is that a 19”?
Will the rear take a proper 3” tyre?

I’ve had a chronicle on a dually in the back of mine since I got it. Did the puffer on it ss last year. A bit of bike packing on it with 1×10. Awesome bike you can do a bit of everything other than enduro hooning with
