Thanks for all the positive vibes. Me and Mrs Frodo visited Jerry in hospital today. He looked distinctly grumpy!

The levels of toxins in his body had however reduced from ‘off the scale’ to above normal. So at least his kidneys still work. Not out of the woods quite yet as he may need another operation to allow him to pee. He’s currently being emptied by the nurses 4 times a day!

    Cheers, Frodo

Jerry suffered a ureatha blockage. Very close to kidney failure. Full bladder probably added as kilo!

Good news! Jerry is out of his operation and the danger zone. Vets bill already up to £1500!

I’m not sure how insurance companies actually make any money (paid out £8k to the frodo family over the past 6 years!!)

didnt mitchell admit swearing at the copper

he got off lightly as any of us would’ve been nicked for that?

It strikes me that fabricating evidence is a far more serious offence by a serving police officer – that is the real story and if it’s true he should be sacked.

The Event uses the same venue for the overnight camp as the event venue – i.e. Base Camp, but the use of this is not compulsory if you wish to leave and return again Sunday.

    Extract from the rules ….errr?

So we have to carry our camping kit and return to the main venue. Sounds a bit contrived?

I suspect it means a polite, suck it up or change your job as life is tough for others also.

    In a nut shell …yes.

Yes my grammer is poor, a product of trying to do six things at the same time!

Its not about whether they should or should not have the holiday that they do its more a response their insistance that their all hard done to, work to hard and in a stressful jobs.

That may be true, but no more so than the average Joe P.

    Teachers need more holiday?

No I don’t think so. In fact I’d have to say they have a damm cheek!

In my local mountaineering club we have many club trips; abroad, to Scotland to the South Coast etc. I don’t have the time to go on many of these as I only have so much leave (5 weeks in fact).

The teachers will insist that these are held in the schoold holidays (fair enough)and most of them go! So where is all this ‘I spent the last two weeks of my summer holiday preparing for the new term/marking’ etc.

Its all bull. They just need to learn to organise their time better like the rest of us and make do with what you have.

    …and another thing!

As I work in rail its the more mnaual jobs, maintenenace, train drivers / crew, station staff etc that have the 7.5hr shifts. Simply because of the unionisation.

As a construction proffessional I do whatever it takes to get the job done. Some days its 8 hours, mostly its 9-10 hours and sometime 12+.

So I work longer ….(and probably get paid less as well!)

    Frodo

Without wanting to get too involved I can say having worked on both sides of the argument that it is far easier to do 12 hour shifts in non desk jobs.

I work in construction. I’m shattered after my 9 – 10hour days chained to a desk.

12 hours on site makes me feel more physically tired but not nearly as mentally tired.

12 hours in an office would burn you out. 12 hours on a site would not.

I had problems with my hands for years until it was propoerly diagnosed as CTS.

It was fiarly strainght forward from then on. Get the nerve condution tests as soon as you can, that will then determine if you need surgery.

I had to have surgery and it was 100% succeful, no problems at all since. I also needed both hands operating on, the first one in a day and the second one two weeks later in a day. No overnight stays in hospotal were required. It was all done under local anaesthetic. The stitches came out of the first just before the second operation and the stitches from that two weeks later.

It wa sjust waiting for the hands to heal after that. I was biking again within …. 6 week from the second operation I think (carefully on easier stuff).

If you need any other info just message me.

Those dam bus drivers (and train drivers while were at it) are plain just damm greedy!

I think most honest hard working folk here would see the Olympics as an opportunity …an opportunity to get more overtime and earn more money. …rather than an opportunity to extort more money from the travelling public.

Why is it that some people don’t feel that they have to earn what they are paid?

    Frodo

What’s funny TJ is that you and others are talking about this like I and others don’t get it? We do get it, ironically its you and others that do not. We understand what the Monarchy is and where it came from.

As for a crass waste of money, many would argue its a good investment. Its not a significant sum in the grand scheme of things anyway.

When the Royal family ever come to exceed their usefulness that will be the end of them, no I don’t think anyone believes they are in servitude.

I don’t see having a big party in the middle of the biggest financial crisis in modern times as ruling wisely. In fact if she actually had any sense of duty to the people of the country she would have recognised the pain many are in and done something much more appropriate.

On the contrary I think Queenie got it spot on. In times of hardship its good to have something to celebrate …anything. All I’ve seen is people having fun in the rain!

As usual the republicans just don’t seem to get it. We all know that a hereditary royal family is wrong in a democratic society but we don’t care. Why? …because it really doesn’t matter. They don’t rule us they don’t interfere with our lives. They do give us a reason to party and a day off!

    Frodo

Not sure about a fully elected house of lords either. The second chamber does an important role and getting elections involved might muddy the waters? Not hereditary but appointed would be my preference. People from different walks of life, skills, abilities and professions.

As for the queen, who cares? She has no real power so all of these Republicans are getting their knickers in as twist about nought!

    Sorry Ernie, I don’t agree.

I do agree with Globalti that he has probably deluded himself into believeing in what he says but ultimately he is the only person who can stop this. Assad is a war criminal plain and simple.

The way the children were killed can only have been sone by sectarian violence. It is inconceivable this was done by the rebels.

The UN really needs to sort iteslf out and send in an armed peace keeping force.

Yes its not as simple as Libya but the world cannot sit back and watch this happen. The actions of the Chinese and Russia are shameful and will only perpetuate the situation.

Not read all the posts but for what its worth at Motorway speeds your looking at a 25% reduction in efficiency.

    That’s down from about 52 – 53 to 38 – 40.
(VW Passsat saloon with normally two bikes roof mounted)

Its an exponential relationship (I think) so slower speeds will make a real difference!

I’ve got some DTSwiss EXM 130 to replace them – they were going on my other bike but I think there the new TALAS. Long Live the DT Swiss!

    MOJO quoted the following repairs.

    Crown Steerer
    Lower TALAS assembly
    Stanchions

They have been excellent forks but really your not going to have them serviced every 15hours (or even every 100 hrs – thats about every 3 months for me!) At £110 a service your better of running them into the ground!

They have been well looked after otherwise.

obviously a stupid thing to do but the entire crisis has been created and exacerbated by the government for their own personal gain; Cameron, warsi, road and transport ministers, maude – even direct advice to store petrol in the home

    Own personal gain?

No they’ve quite clearly made a right hash of it but the intention was to build resiliance into the coutrys fuel supply by ensuring people’s tanks were full.

What they’ve done is overdone it …and like I said made a right hash of it.

perfectly sustainable. Other countries manage it and more.

Well it might have been had the government of the day had the courage to hike taxes to actually pay for it!

As it was the spending was unsustainable and **** us for the forseeable future.

I’d rather have our cabinet ministers well educated and intelligent rather than scrapeing the barrel of humanity!

Anyone can become an MP you can see that from the rank and file but I’d rather ministers were the pick of the crop.

How is that relevent to generating a surplus …?

You’ve conveniently forgotten some of the current governments moves already made to restrict tax avoidance, increase the personel allowance etc.

Would anyone else have done a better job in the situation?

I’m struggleing to understand the angry bile being spouted here. Why is he useless for generating a surplus? How else do you expect our enourmous debts to be paid off?

My word, truly BS central on here today.

‘Shaking with anger’ …get a grip. You don’t know them or the familey. Six years is realistically a tough sentance under the guidelines.

What are you actually angry about the offence or the punishment? I’m not saying there is no reason to feel angry their obviously is but come on ‘shaking with anger’?

And as for those who advocate the death penalty, that makes you just as bad as him imo. There is no excuse for the death penalty full stop. I had hoped as a society we had moved on from such barbaric and inhumane practices.

So you have standard gauge trains only going further north.

Can you get double deck trains through the tunnel ….suppose you could the car decks are double story.

    Konab – Good point!

Even if the HS2 service only proves to be a service for business and the wealthy it still relieves congestion on the existing lines.

I’d take having a seat from Manchester to London as being a plus even if I couldn’t afford to use the HS2 service.

The most economical solution is a line running to Manchester that interfaces with the existing network. That way the line provides the capacity where it is needed and as its a new route lets make it high speed.

    Frodo

oldagedpredator – So you propose building the most heavily congested sections last when the governments probably run out of money anyway?

Nah, I think that’s the worst thought out plan I’ve seen on here!
