Is it possible Gerrans didn’t have surgery?

I had x-rays every 6 weeks although the surgeon told me that x-rays aren’t the best tool for seeing how well the bone is repairing.

It is a significant injury so listen to the doctors and just do what they say and don’t rush back based on what a pro rider whose contract depends on it managed, better to wait now and have it heal properly and not cause you longer term issues.

Thanks for the reply, I have no problem with them being left in there as such but the whole area where the screws are is still really tender and I cant imagine taking an impact of any size on it without passing out.
I can recreate the ‘spoing’ feeling wwaswas describes every time I flex my glute or trying to come out of a lunge position. That doesn’t bother me too much but its odd the sensation of the screws just being there hasn’t lessened over the 9 months they have been in.

Wwaswas, What was the recovery like for taking the screws out? How long were you back on crutches for? I must admit, the thought of going through this kind of recovery again makes me want to leave them in.

Also for those that got the screws out, how long before the NHS would even consider it?
I was told I wont be discharged from this injury for 2 years and they wont consider screw removal before that. Mine cause me some discomfort. 9 months on and I still cant lie on my RH side in bed. Like the xray above, mine stick out quite far from the bone

I was 39 when I broke my hip in April 2017, I massively displaced mine so obviously couldn’t move after the impact. I was right on the age limit of them putting a replacement in, luckily the surgeon on the next day was up for a challenge so I got the 3 massive cannulated screws in mine now. I was off work for 8 weeks but I was able to load bear from 6 weeks(not everyone can), but even doing all the physio I was given I couldn’t fully dispense with the crutches until 5 months later and now I’m struggling with all the muscle atrophy that goes with that.
I did get on a road bike after 6 months but I still haven’t got back to Mountain Biking yet, i think that will be a year at least to be able to take the extra impact in the hips that mountain biking brings. I did try and use the spin bike as soon as the surgeon would allow but 20 minutes on almost no resistance left me unable to walk or get around properly for best part of a week due to the associated swelling that came to the hip joint. This also meant I couldn’t do the physio I needed for that week.
Sounds like your fracture is a lot less severe, so I hope you dont have an experience like mine, when I just done it, the doctors said 6 months to be back on a bike, I thought I could do it in 3 all cocky like but my lasting impression is that you cant force your body to do more than it wants, it just fights back, so do listen to your body and dont make any predictions on your return, in my case they just brought disappointment, but do keep a diary so you can see how far you have come and have something positive to focus on.
Also I did get a private physio but the reality for me was that they wouldn’t allow me to do much as they didn’t feel comfortable overruling the surgeons advice on not doing any movement or weight bearing that caused pain which at the time was most things that involved moving the hip.

Has anybody had any issues with these nanos coming in oversize? Ive just ordered some of the TCS variant from CRC and they are coming at almost 45mm wide and such a tall profile they foul the seattube on my new cotic escapade.

Sorry, One more question. Does the nut have tighten with an allen key, otherwise cant see how it doesn’t just spin in the frame.

I did the exact same this weekend Beagle, only all mine are up now and in bags in the garage.
I’ve read that its in the adhesive too and I scraped up some of that as well because I didn’t want any loose crumbly bits before I lay levelling compound over the top.
I asked the builders how to get rid of the tiles and they just said scrape them up so I did, never mentioned they might have asbestos in.

Ive just sold my house, I used an online solicitor and they were great.
My buyer used a local solicitor who was hopeless, on completion day they managed to transfer the wrong amount of money to me resulting in the buyers sitting on my drive for several hours while it got resolved.

I got some bigdug ones second hand and to go alongside some I had got from Machine Mart.

I thought the machine mart ones were a bit sturdier and I prefer the zippy red colour they come in.

thanks for replies, I already run a 50mm stem on my current bike, this one has a 20mm longer TT so I cant really run a shorter stem. My current bike has felt a bit shorter since changing the post to a reverb so maybe this will even out on the Yeti.

How is the sizing on these, I would normally be a large but a 25.2″ seems very long on paper, does it feel right when you are sitting on it
    .Im 6″2 BTW.

I suspect she does, she didnt think it was a big deal and that she would be charged for the tape at a later date. Still live and learn I guess.

Ive suggested asking to dropp the charge for the paintwork as it looks minimal now ive seen photos and the tape as a comprimise.

Regarding affording a bike in the first place,I stopped trying to see logic in girls financial decsions a long time ago.

    Thanks for all your posts!

Really? tyres dont look worn, chain not stretched.

Its the same bike as she knows it didnt go back with the bottle cage bolts and the tape was torn before she got it.

Have emailed them to ask to comprimise on the chips and the tape as that is wear and tear as far as im concerned.

so it only costs them £25 to rent the bike for the 7 months and thats assuming they pay list price for the bike in the first place.

    frepster
    Free Member

no, no fixed price menu as such for faults found so leaves them open to do what they like

Scott, it seems their returned suitable condition is as new as when it was delivered which is unrealistic in my view.

She didnt get the bike until end of april so she got charged the same for 4 months.

It would have been bttter value if she used it more but I reckon 250 miles, I dont recall the chips so they must have been tiny.

    frepster

Surely the cost of rental is irevelant to the charges applied at the end, they have obviously done a cost analysis and decided that £125 is enough to charge and run a wothwhile profit when the bike is sold at the end of the term.

This just seems like gouging customers to me.

She also barely used the thing which would be obvious to anyone who looked at the bike

Its not really a fair comparisson is it though, a seasons rental compared to a days rental charge,

    frepster

Ive jut checked, it was £125 for 4 months on a £599 bike so not that cheap plus £25 total delivery charges.
This their T&C ref wear and tear.

18.The bike must be returned cleaned and in good condition, bearing in mind reasonable ‘wear and tear’. The bike must be returned with no punctures. A TRI UK bike mechanic will check the bike on its return; any damage that is not reasonable ‘wear and tear’ will be charged for and will incur a repair fee and labour charge, i.e. you will be charged for the cleaning of the bike if it is returned dirty, and damage will be charged accordingly.

Bikes already been sent back so no option to get it fixed else where.

It was all done mail order

    frepster

You pay for the entire bike in advance and then get it back less the £100 charge at the end of the season.

    frepster

    £100 + delivery I think

It wsa the only new bike she has ever had so she was pretty careful riding it, she only used it to train on so no commuting or anything, it was never locked up.

It certainly looked pretty decent to me when she sent it back, she cleaned it but not as much as perhaps I would of.

As for the wheels, they were true enough, the brakes didnt rub and werent bad enough for me to think I better true them.

Ive written to them to define what is a fair ammount of wear and tear.

She even found the bottle cage bolts last week and phoned them up and then told her dont worry we dont need them!

Me and and a mate had a go at this on Saturday. We started at Mytchett and sort of finished but had to miss out the bit that takes you over to Leith Hill from Holmbury as the heat had more of an effect than we expected and we were concerened about light if we had a mechanical.

120KM and it took 8 and a bit hours with breaks. Would recommend a earlier start than our 9:45 one. I will try again but I am away for the date the mass ride is starting at.

Route is basically brillant, Enjoyed the stuff out of lightwater toward Woking more than i thought and was treated to some new to me surrey hills trails. route sheet was useful for some of the trails around winterfold where you are doing lots of small loops that I found hard to navigate with my Garmin.

Thanks so much Gee for the route and the effort it must have required to commit it to paper too.

Last time I checked Wiggle had all colours in most sizes and for a fiver less.

As for Size im 6″2/75kg and tried a medium and a large and the medium was a reasonably tight fit but the body length and arm length were about an inch too short for me. the large has the same body and arm lengths just a lot wider in the body.

for lanky old me the search goes on

Virgin told me they dont officially support the iphone 4 and they can not provide you with APN settings.

I live in Grove, really dont bother looking here. As for Wantage bike scene? Theres only one shop here and they only sell Trek.
The mountain biking while there are lots of bridleways they are super dull and beaten down by all the horses and 4WD. I now pretty much only road ride.
