Cotic dropouts (Cotouts?) let you drop the wheel out without fouling the rear mech, a godsend compared to my fs which I have to remove the rear QR nut completely to get the wheel out!

I don’t quite understand where you are going wrong, you need to hold the chainring bolt spanner tight (with the prongs engagued in the resesses of the chainring bolt) against the chainring, and turn the otherside of the bolt with an allen key, is this what you are doing?

I’m sure that a similar fork to your requirements has popped up in the classifieds a few times over the past week, Z1 Sls or something..£180 or thereabouts..

Yeah, it’s good fun, I didn’t ‘get it’ the first few times and didn’t enjoy it that much but now just chill out and play on sections rather than trying to ride the whole thing continuously. Still don’t like the boulder trail though, probably ‘cos I’m not good enough 🙂

For me, it’s about the pleasure I get from owning something a little bit special, that I like the look of and that is well made. Certainly not bought to re-sell, with servicing should last a v. long time and ultimately would be nice to pass on to the next generation. Oh, and once you get a watch with saffire glass, thay don’t scratch nearly as easily!

It my current stage in life (25) about £3500 tops, bought a Tag a few months ago so that should keep me going (and wasn’t nearly £3500 either!)

“the last message was sent two minutes and 1.86 miles before” That’s scary, didn’t know signals could be tracked that accurately!

I’m also interested in offroad tyres for the RR, saw the ones 18bikes used to shod someones (Bontrager, I think) but they’re a bit pricey!

Took my Matiz to Wales and back for a weekend last year (from Sheffield), two blokes, two bikes, camping equipment, chairs and a 15l can of petrol ‘cos the tank’s so tiny! Managed fine, good laugh, rear seats fold flat, 796cc, yeah baby!

IHN- where are you?? Could see about some experience if your local to me (or my parents who both teach)…..

Smee- my PGCE was sponsored by Crayola 🙂

Had a truely wonderful moment today… 11year old who can’t read or write told me exactly how waterfalls are made, when I attempted to teach him this about 3 weeks ago now. Its the best of jobs and the worst of jobs really….

Hey, I’m a secondary school Geography teacher- you HAVE to want to teach, I figured out the other day that I work about 25 hours a week, on top of the ‘expected’ 8-3 day. I love my job, and can’t imagine doing anything else, but there were other people who trained at the same time as I did and who did it because they thought it was easy, and liked the idea of long holidays….. they didn’t last…..

As a physics teacher, any high performing school would want you. Most high performing schools have a percentage of students who do triple science GCSE, so need physics teachers. I work at the best school (80% 5A*-C) in the large town where I teach and we want physics teachers.

The best thing to do would be to get some experience in school, take some holiday and go into a school for a week or two, it’ll give you a realistic idea of what to expect.

I had a pad fall off the backing recently, thought ‘meh, I thought that might happen at some point’ posted it back and got a free replacement. They’re about calculated risk for me, I’m happy to presume that the front and rear will not fail simultaneously and so will continue to reap the fiscal rewards 😀

Oh, and can’t believe “singl_sp__d: cycling without the ease” didn’t make it! I’d have bought that!

I’ve found 18bikes to be good to average, yeah they stock some nice kit, and seem to do a good level of work in the workshop but they frequently seem to lack stock levels in basic parts. I appreciate the difficulties of stock levels and cash flow in a small business but I don’t think they’ve got it quite right. On the whole, I’ll continue to use them for stuff I can’t sort myself or parts that I don’t need in a hurry..

This is illustrated by British cyclist’s ignorance of basic road rules – with a quarter (24 per cent) unable to identify a cyclists prohibited sign and one in five admitting to night cycling without working lights.
