I swapped bikes with a mate on a ride last week ‘cos he wanted to ride my full-suss on one of the descents, he fell off and scratched the stantion of my brand new forks. Bit of a bugger but at the end of the day there’s as much chance of it happening to me as him.

What would your mate have done if he’d been the one crashed into at the race? If he’d have bought a new wheel then I’d say that’s what you owe him. If he’d have shrugged as he was given it free by a sponsor, perhaps an apology will suffice?

I love mine, great ride positioning for me, feels nimble & much lighter than it is ultra versatile too..

Wow, I would be furious if my gf stripped my bike and re-built it without asking, guess you know your other half well enough not to expect problems.. 😯

have you made a mistake threading the chain through the rear mech? Easy to do, easy to check 😀

I suppose the most technical bit of Cut Gate would be the switchbacks down to slippery stones, but I’m not sure that they’re actually part of CG at all.. 😕

May I respectfully suggest that you put up with the noise? Cup and cone bearings offer a world of adjustment pain for the novice mechanic compared to sealed ones, besides, once you’re going fast enough you won’t hear the hub 😀

I’d like to see a group of people who claim fs is just as fast as ht to ride a timed run down a rocky peaks descent on a decent full suss then match or beat that time on a similarly decent ht…

if you’re going to do it, make sure the threads are immaculately clean first or they are likely to damage your skin when you pull them through..

Depends where you ride dunnit? 8″ full suss in the knarly New Forest prob not as greater benefit as Peak style hurtling..

Perhaps try rotating your bars slightly first, I find my thumbs can ache if my bars are rotated too far back..

Lizardskins grips use the same collars as ODI, I’m using their ‘Peaty’ grip which seem quite nice and would fit your description

I reckon it’s a Singular, their forks look beautiful but skinny!

hmm, in my (limited) personal experience, forks bent forwards means flat landing, forks bent backwards means frontal impact (I’ve achieved both over the years) Is it possible that this ping was more of a prang? I’d have thought that a ping was so usual that it would not bear mentioning in this context unless you believe that it may somehow be related to the bent forks..?

I found some of the tech sections on the boulder trail more difficult on a full suss (patriot) than my hardtail due to the stop-start-balance nature of the way I rode it, if only I had rad trials skilz…

Maybe Hardtail, ultra short chain stays, loads of standover, high bb, 5-6″ fork, clearance for wide (low pressure) tire, something like a Cotic Bfe or DB Alpine..?

I can recommend the SuperStar one, nice and smooth, good vfm

Comments from having previously owned one:

    -they are heavy
-the bolts used for holding the ebb in place are crap (flat head screwdriver fittings??)
-they are fairly decent value for money
-the paint is a nice colour

And why can’t you fold it properly? Just follow the creases! 🙂

If she’s raising these objections before you’ve even moved in, perhaps you are just fundamentally incompatible? If she’d get annoyed rather than discuss the options most idiosyncrasies of living with a partner are likely to rankle!

(living with ms. F&S for c. 4 years w. up to 5 bikes at a time, one year of both sharing the bedroom with full sus :D)

Ah, I have perhaps not made myself clear, it is not the cowel itself, but rather the cotic designed dropouts as a whole which ensures that the QR nut does not fowl the rear mech attachment point. A more concise explanation can be found on the Cotic site if this is still confusing?

I’m quite prepared to be proved wrong (and probably will be) but I just can’t see how a 200mm rotor could be pulled out of a dropout IF a decent qr skewer is used, done up properly and Fox-style lawyer tabs/machined qr recessions are in place. The skewer would have to snap or stretch by ~5mm..is this likely?

As a guide I used 36:16 to get from Sheffield into the Peaks and am in the process of upping it to 38:16, all roadwork mind..

Good stuff, what kind of terrain will your commute be over? You might find you want a larger gear at the front quite soon if its lots of road work!
