Depending on the length of the forks you have, I'd be tempted to scour Ebay for a cool mid 90s steel hardtail, get it to a frame builder, have sliding paragons welded on and a cool new paint job, should have change from your budget to spend on extra shiny bits and end up with a unique frame to boot. I think one of the Stw crew did somethin similar to an old Kona..one of the long term projects..?

I think that the metal u-clip on the chain tensioner is supposed go around the chain, doubt it would have stopped that happening though 😉

I like the Marin, I like Penmachno and LLandegla more, but I really dislike cyb now. Went to it for the first time a few years ago when it was based on the other side of the road, had a great time, been back two or three times to the new set up and found the carparking and centre overpriced and routes fairly bland, I don’t enjoy riding over pointless sections of rock slabs on the flat, it’s not a challenge, it’s not exciting, it’s just a pain! (perhaps I’m spoilt with the peaks on my doorstep) 🙂

Hi, your daughter has my sympathies! With regard to her position, FC is right, she needs to start hunting for a new job ASAP. With regard to the mentoring the NQT/ year leaders role, is there any one more senior in school than her that she feels able to express her concerns to? (the deputy sounds like a right idiot!) She might be able to go down the ‘I want to do the best for the kids and in the lead up to their sats at the end of Y6 (only 1 year away), I don’t want the extra pressure of a job I don’t feel experienced enough to do’ route. Particularly if the school is one that places a lot of emphasis on sats results and league tables. At the same time, being able to say she has experience of both KS 1 and 2 might help her when she comes to looking for a new job…..

I like Superstar, you pays your money you takes your chance. I’ve had a SS product fail (brake pads) and was impressed with the way the guys sorted it out. You want the best? Pay top dollar. You want cheap? Don’t expect the best..

I’ve used single pivots (Orange Sub 5, Orange Patriot, Marin somethingorother), Horsts (Spec. Big Hit) I-drive and currently Giants Maestro (DW link equivilant) on a Reign.

Of the (admittedly very varied designs and intended uses) bike’s I’ve owned I wouldn’t swap the Reign for any of them, with the pro-pedal on medium I can pop the bike off small lips/drops, on it’s low setting I can blat down loose peak-style rubble descents and on full I can climb as well as I am capable of.

6″ rear travel, 140mm front, big grins and high recommendations!
