The KONA Unit has fairly modern geometry with sliding dropouts, certainly longer than most when it was updated a few years ago. Not the lightest but they’re marketing it as a bikepacking model now so a bit of heft is probably relative..

I’ve had two suits made by James at Michelsberg Tailors, one in pinstripe dormeuil Amadeus wool and one in a thornproof tweed. In both cases James was a pleasure to deal with and he’s an absolute perfectionist. Highly recommended!

I would err on the side of caution and get a legal carry second pie.

I’d be tempted to go the other way -take a normal company car for high mileage use with efficiency and comfort and keep a cheap and cheerful utility vehicle privately for weekend/holiday use when you’ll really benefit from it. Means two vehicles but if you can demonstrate that you’re not using the company vehicle privately you may be able to avoid any benefit in kind taxation as well..

Would a smart speaker that she can verbally instruct to call you or another family member work? Appreciate it’s not as neat as an iwatch Or equivalent which would automatically detect a fall but May be seen as less intrusive to her?

Yep, just an end cap swap on the evo, did it the other way last week 👍

Did you appease the customer by showing them the secret bit of paper that you’re Definitely Not Allowed To Show Them to prove that you’re not making any money on the car? That ought to have sorted everything I think 😁

Either top trolling from Poopscoop or the answer to the number of crashes on the SDW? 🤔

I think someone mentioned having an old set of road bars in the clamp of their work stand (possibly for washing duties). Seems like an easy way to add some stable and adjustable hooks to hang a bike by its top tube whilst working on. You could even tape them to protect delicate frames 😁

Sorry to hear you’re having problems, hope you get sorted soon. As a counter-point I used them for a vaguely obscure part (replacement threaded axle for a rear coaster brake hub, they were one of the few places that seemed to have them in the right size outside the USA, shipping was reasonable and swift and part did its job as hoped. I guess it may be luck of the draw 🤔

Went to Bansko a few years ago as a complete beginner, hired kit and took a couple of ski lessons. One other complete beginner in our group and two experienced skiers/snowboarders. The variety of runs were ideal for me allowing me to progress within my comfort zone and I could have done a week without getting bored. The more advanced guys complained that there weren’t as many challenging routes as they’d have liked (though looking at some of the runs they did terrified me). Apparently they don’t manicure the slopes as much (ie no pistebashers) and one member complained that it wasn’t as good as the french resorts at every opportunity 🙄 places to eat in the town ranged from cheap and basic to pretty cheap and good. Some of the bars and clubs had a bit of a mafia feel to them which kept things slightly tense at times 🙀

Why did he give you the postcode that he’d be travelling from? Seem odd unless he’s asked you to complete the V5c ahead of time 🤔

Alpkit certainly used to offer their sleeping bags in shorter sizes, cane at a slight dust count too, which was nice

I can see that it could help over smaller stuff..but..isn’t part of the appeal of riding a gravel bike that it’s a somewhat impractical bike for the terrain and that’s where a lot of the fun comes from? Don’t get me wrong, I love my Bish Bash Bosh but I don’t want to make it too capable, it would be like adding a couple of gears to the singlespeed!

Ha, yeah, many of Jamie’s creations could be front runners. I guess a n’eer do well getting chased with bombers could be appropriate too

Nice looking build! Re. the jarring at speed, have you tried dropping the pressure at the front a bit below 50psi? I’m experimenting with 40c Schwalbe G ones on the front of my gravel bike and it appears very sensitive to small changes in pressure. Doesn’t seem to slow things down on the tarmac too much either!

Was threatened by a driver in Sheffield a few years ago who waved a pair of what looked like old tailors cloth shears at me for having the audacity for not letting him squeeze by over traffic calming measures. It was somewhat bemusing and luckily I was just outside work and called a colleague over at which point the motorist drove off. Some odd people out there.

Hermes here too, booked through parceltogo.com and dropped in at local shop. I think Parceltogo.com compares the dimensions of the item against the carrier’s restrictions automatically and flags up any issues, I know the last wheels I sent were too big for some couriers but Hermes were showing as ok. The posts above have me a bit worried now though, perhaps an invoice is on the way..

BETD used to do a 26″ rear conversion kit for them, I had one (without the kit) liked it, you’ll struggle to get anything as capable for that money

Having done this recently, I’d recommend a couple of inches of crusher run over lain by a ‘dry’ mix of sharp sand and cement to bed the flags on (think I went with a 1:4 mix). Get the crusher run well compacted (I used a plastic membrane underneath as this was for a workshop floor over clay) then broadly level out the sand/cement before fine tuning slab by slab with a trowel and bed the flags in with rubber mallet taps.

Having been through this exact process a month or so ago, I can strongly recommend SMD[/url] Russel’s very happy to talk through the machines and they even have their own range built for them by Jenome.

Just my 2ps worth but I was impressed. v. fast free delivery too..

In my recent experience getting a Mac code (from BT) was no problem. This was in start contrast with every other aspect of my experiences with BT; rarely, if ever, have I been so pleased to finally be rid of a company.

Now with Zen for line rental and broadband, very happy with their service. They also offer fibre if desired.

I’m 6’4″ and ride a 58cm Surly Disc Trucker (33″ inside leg). One of the deciding factors for me was chainstay length -having experienced pannier heel strike on one short tour I was keen to avoid it ever again and the Surly was longer than others I looked at..

Ah, even better I only tried the 70mm length which removed the silver option before, many thanks 🙂
