I don’t think they’re pulling out of banking, just pulling out of the deal to buy loads of LloydsTSB branches. I could be wrong though – it has been known :-)

We spent 4 weeks on Bali and very nearly didn’t come back! We loved it.

Most of our time was spent travelling around the coast of the island doing loads of scuba diving. It was absolutely brilliant.

Food is cheap and delicious and the people are great. The only time we had any issues with hawkers was when we spent a couple of days around Kuta. It did (back in 2002) seem like a Torremolinos for Australians. Outside of Kuta was much more relaxed.

Ubud, was a kind of cultural centre in the centre of the island – we had a couple of days looking a temples and watched a couple of traditional dance shows – pretty good too.

As above, there is a lot of poverty and the roads are always busy so travelling any distance can be frustrating – just go with the flow, get out and look around and interact with the locals.

It certainly isn’t the Maldives or Mauritius, but is a wonderful island. We’ve been there too and would rather go back to Bali.

Singapore is okay, we stayed there for a couple of days on the way out. Did the zoo, had tea at Raffles (very civilised!) and wandered around the electronics shopping centres (a very frustrating experience). Restaurant food was okay and quite expensive. On the advice of a local we found a “food court” (I can’t remember what it was called exactly) which was basically a large covered market with loads of traders selling food around the outside, benches and tables in the middle. The food was delicious.

I’m at work at the mo so can’t post much. Feel free to ask questions and I’ll try to pop in later :-)

Throw yourselves into it. You’ll have a great time. Jealous :P

    Don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.
Singin’: “Don’t worry about a thing,

    Rise up this mornin’,
    Smiled with the risin’ sun,
    Three little birds

A very good friend of mine was in an almost identical situation to you – long time (almost 5 years), loads of hard work (some bizarre branch of Chemistry), family bereavement etc. It broke her and in the end, she hated it so much that she didn’t bother. 5 years wasted. She now regrets it, a lot.

Stick in, you’re almost done 8)

Kids get taught to cheat in the same way as the “professionals” do by some junior team coaches.

I would like to think you are wrong, but I suspect you’re not.

I will not allow it at my club and, fortunately, the parents all agree with me. I didn’t grow up playing football, but went to a rugby school form the age of 11 to 18. I am trying to instil the same respect for the game and the officials as I was taught.

I am a football fan and junior coach. I watched it, open mouthed, on Match of the day, last night.

WTF was going through his mind to even contemplate doing something like this?

Afterwards, I switched over to Sky Sports to watch a bit of Spanish Football – Seville vs Athletico Madrid – it was embarrassing. To see grown men behaving like this was shameful. Diego Costa, in particular, was diving all over the place and pretending to be injured in an attempt to blatantly cheat the ref into getting an opposition player sent off. I know we see play acting in the English league, but this was another level altogether.

I coach the young lads in my village at football, and even at 6 and 7 years old, this type of behaviour is already on display. So far, I’ve had to pull them up for arguing with (shouting at!!) the referee and play-acting. I gave my own Son the hair-dryer treatment for spitting. The response to all of my bollockings was “they do it on the telly!”

So, this coming Saturday, do I issue gumshields and kevlar shirts?

FFS footballers, get a grip. It is a beautiful game, but you’re ruining it.

I’ve lived 47 years and never even heard of this combo, let alone eaten it. Where do they serve it?

In my kitchen. Fancy coming over for dinner? Rare fillet steak with a couple of poached eggs is a wonder to behold.

Edukator, if you’re trundling along at the speed limit (where appropriate), the only reason to overtake you is if the overtaking driver is either:
    a) looking to improve their view of the approaching road*
    b) a knob

    * I can understand why driving behind a van can be difficult or frustrating. They have the performance of an average car but can be like driving behind a wall that obscures visibility. Simple solution is for the following driver to drop back.

If you’re hovering around 55mph, I would overtake (if safe) and continue at 60 (in NSL area, obviously). If you’re hovering around 60 and I’m in the car, I’ll drop back; if I’m on the bike, I’ll overtake to improve my visibility along the road.

I drive a BMW but only have steak 2 or 3 times a year. However, I have poached eggs with it every time.

Disclaimer: I also drive a Seat Ibiza and ride a motorcycle. Not at the same time. That would be silly.

on a more positive note my nan made this for me once. It’s one of my favourite egg things to eat although because i’m such a greedy waster i rarely make it.

Take a mug and rip up a a slice of bread into it. Nothing fancy, just rip it up into smallish pieces.

On top of that drop in a knob of butter.

Season really well with salt and pepper.

Last but far from least add two (whole) freshly peeled soft boiled eggs.

Take the mug and a fork to your chosen dining area. Mash for a few seconds. Egg heaven

    Chuckie-eggs in a cup!!

This is proper comfort food. My mum used to give this to us as kids when we were poorly. Unbelievably good.

I do, I signal, it gets ignored. The little orange light.

Are you the person right up the arse of the lorry, stuck at 40mph, testing that your indicator relay is working, having got there by leaving your passing manoeuvre until the very last minute as you were busy chilling out and enjoying the view of the passing countryside?

    freddyg

Not much anyone else can do about that.

Yes there is. Plan as soon as you see the situation develop.

    EDIT:

It’s not lost on me, but if it’s busy you can’t always pull out because the middle lane can be full for quite some time.

    Then signal your intention early.

Deep pan of slightly simmering water, a few splashes of vinegar and then slowly crack the eggs into water from as close as you can get to the water without hurting yourself. In the time it takes to toast bread the egg is done.

    ^^^ this

Reiterate – fresh eggs are essential (and yes, the white will still envelop the yolk).

It really pisses me off when the last person in that line pulls out first, accelerates and boxes me in behind the lorry. Happens all the time. I could pull out anyway but then I’m actually being dangerous.

I’d be pissed off at that too. However, the lorry should have been seen well in advance of any boxing-in situation. Unless you are driving in fog, heavy rain, snow, at night in the dark with no lights on or you have your eyes closed. Inserts winky smiley thingy here ->

In that scenario I would let everyone overtake in turn.

On a dual carriageway its reasonable to assume that everyone will overtake a slow vehicle so I would adjust my behaviour appropriately.

I agree with the conclusion…. However, by looking well ahead, the slow moving vehicle should have been spotted well in advance of your arrival. There should be no need to slow to 40mph and plenty of time to filter in to the faster overtaking traffic.

    Observation and planning, innit?

I thought Sunderland deserved the win.

Yes, Cisse’s goal should have stood, but Sunderland should have had two penalties and Newcastle should have had a man sent off (for the over-the-ball jobbie on Johnson)

IIRC, a couple of years ago Stephen Fry mentioned a similar app (on the iPhone) that he ‘had seen’ used by a promiscuous ‘friend’ in the gay community.

I would go off and hunt for it, but I’m on my work PC

EDIT: Just had a look on my phone and an app called “grindr” seems to fit some of your requirements.

EDIT #2: Just to clarify…. I don’t have the app installed on my phone, I used the internet browsing capabilities of the device to see if there was mention of it somewhere on the internets.

I’m not particularly keen on Liverpool either, I thought it was a dump; I was last there in the late 80s, early 90s – maybe I should venture back for a nosey?

Make sure the cables are the same length, otherwise the rude trons will overtake the polite and considerate trons. The rude trons will pop out first and your music will sound bobbins.
