<waves> I was 38 when our first was born. Second one arrived 17 months later.

    They’re fantastic creatures.

A lot has changed and we’re in a state of perma-skint, but wouldn’t change anything.

I like the idea of calling your wife ‘MrsG’, especially during special time. Like you’re being ever so naughty.

    This evening’s line of questioning:

Freddyg: MrsG, Have you been spending “special time” with Samuri?

    MrsG: <blushes>

Freddyg: And did you let him call you by your “Special” name?

    MrsG: <blushes again> <faint hint of a smile> <misty, far away look in her eyes>

Freddyg: Curses! <runs off to the pub>

    I bought it once….

MrsG was in labour at the time. While she was having a nap, I wandered to the hospital shop to find a paper; it was the only thing they had. What a hate-filled, vile production full of twists of the truth and down-right lies. Their “Journalists” should hang their heads in shame that they prostitute themselves for this.

    Mr Fry; chapeau!

Just sent the link to MrsG in the hope she’ll take the subtle hint….

    Extract:

    ‘afternoon MrsG

As usual, lunch-time browsing of my beloved timethievingtrackworld.com can be dangerous…

If you’re stuck for an idea for Christmas, this would be great (Hint: do not buy me anything else!): http://www.massivebrewery.com/index.html

Stood outside in my back yard for a couple of hours between 11pm and 1am (on and off) in Ulverston, Cumbria and saw 1. I have a stiff neck today. :|

    Another 6 music fan here.

It was solely responsible for getting me back into music having become very dissolusioned with the whole music scene in the late 90’s and early 80’s.

One day, there was an ad on BBC1 (I think) advertising a new digital only station – set at a wedding reception and the DJ put on the White Stripes – “fell in love with a girl”. I hadn’t heard anything like it for years. I jumped on t’interweb and found 6music – I’ve been there ever since. It does have a couple of annoying presenters but the music more than makes up for it.

    She’s 2

We’ve only had our DVD thingies for the last two years. When the eldest was two, the youngest was only 5 months and slept whenever we attempted a journey. Ours didn’t really show much interest in the telly until a couple of years later.

Headphones (over ear type) are a big bonus – but always check the volume levels too.

    Edit: ^^^ too slow :-D

Our kids watch a bit – we do try to limit it though.

Ransos, how old is your daughter? Ours are (almost) 8 & 6. Disney films and the old classics (chitty, chitty, wizard of Oz, Charlie and the chocolate factory etc.) are all popular.

We do travel a lot (family is distributed all over the UK) and have found the DVD players really help prevent boredom.

Turns out it induced car sickness in my two boys. That turned out to be a pleasant journey.

The reason for the breaks – get them to focus their attention on the outside world for a while. Then they can get on with being brainwashed by Peppa Pig / Sleeping Beauty / all manner of other video nasties. ;-)

We took a punt on an older version of this pair of Nextbase DVD players.

They were pretty cheap and are plenty cheerful. The kids can either both watch the same film from DVD/USB or choose their own. We only use them on long journeys and make sure we pause them every 30 – 45 mins to play I-Spy etc.

To be on the M42 side of Nottingham, you’re choices are either Wollaton or Beeston. West Bridgford is nice but a pain to get to the M1/M42.

Do you need to consider schools etc?

@nickhart sorry to hear you’ve been having problems with cetirizine.

I’ve suffered hayfever for 38 years now and tried most prescribed and over the counter remedies. Non worked (including courses of jabs). I was prescribed Zirtek when it was a POM. It was a miracle cure for me. I’ve been taking it ever since and have experienced no ill effects at all. Try something else – others mentioned above may be more suited to you. We’re all genetically different. For some, like me, cetirizine works well.

I hope you and your daughter find something suitable soon. Hayfever is shitty.

I joined in 2002 (I think). I found the place shortly after getting into biking while looking for advice on lights for my first night ride.

It’s a great forum full of humour and compassion and has helped me with many things over the years. I even announced the birth of my son here before I told the rest of my family – back in 2005! I dread to think how much time I’ve spent here when I should have been working!

I had a new 2.0D Elegance hatchback ffor a weekend demonstrator a couple of months ago – time to replace my lease car. At the beginning of June I had my finger hovering ofer the “order” button but decided to have one more look to see if I could find any more reports/reviews of the estate (which wasn’t available on demo). My search threw up the announcement of the vRS just a few days prior!

I’ve been hanging on ever since to see if my lease company will include them on their list. Today should be the day they say yes/no!

As others have said, I also do not want to be forced to open links in new tabs.

I’m also not too fussed about being notified of new posts on threads I’ve participated in. My memory isn’t that shot…. Yet. Actually, for threads I’ve participated in, I generally have them in their own tab anyway – middle click – I just go back to the tab after a while and refresh. The window stays at the last read position and new posts are listed underneath.

The only thing I would like to change is to have a link at the bottom of each thread to take me back to the forum. Not a biggie when on my PC, but a minor irritant on my phone/tablet.

I do get (am currently having) pangs, but I reckon I’m probably too old now.

Been several times since late 80’s and experienced both sunshine and unbelieveable quantities of mud. In the sun it is a truly magical place; in the rain, it’s a bit grim.

Apart from my very first visit, I was never bothered about the headline bands. Glastonbury, for me, is all about the smaller stages and stuff away from the main areas. Much more chilled.

Thanks folks. Use is mainly in the evening in a little market town in the north west but would like to use iplayer etc.

HSDPA coverage seems to be okay but drops slightly indoors.

I’ll check out the plusnet jobbie and invest £20 in a dongle to give it a whirl.

Yes, I’ve tried switching between extended, duplicate and HDMI only. Nothing (Fn+F8).

I’ve also powered everything off and booted up in various combinations.

It last worked about 30 seconds before I installed the update when it was connected to my telly. Disconnected it, applied the updates it rebooted and I went to bed.

Next day at the presentation, it was borked.

All settings have been checked a dozen times and the display adapter even recognised the HDMI device I connected it to at home (Sony TV) but no output.

Maybe I have put the cable on the wrong way round, so the little trons are all going back into my laptop?
