Sainsbury's organic. 1cup oats to 1.5 cups milk. Microwave full power for 3 mins. Add either dried fruit, sugar, golden syrup or nutella – depending on mood.

    Salt? No thanks.

    Coffeking:

You have to have install/enabled the "Owned" app yourself, so are just as guilty.

Actually, I think it was the superwall or some-such. We didn't specifically (or knowingly) install the "Owned" app. By the way – this also happened to MrsG and to three of her friends too – all unknowingly. Mind you, they (we) are all in our 40's so maybe this newfangled technology speak has passed us by

I've deleted my account. While it was initially interesting and entertaining to search for old friends and I quite enjoyed the first few 'pokes'; but when people who I'd never heard of suddenly decided that they 'owned' (pwned??) me, I gave up (and none of them had Bombers, ha!). It's all just a bit puerile

It was Frankie Boyle that got me – funny as

Frankie Boyle is the highlight of the show… However, I saw him do stand up and didn't find him funny – it just seemed too scripted. Whereas on Mock The Week his off the cuff stuff is hilarious.

    +1 the Road to Wellville

The Player (in fact anything with Tim Robbins – apart from Shawshank Redemption)

Boogie Nights. We went with friends. After 30 minutes, I'd had enough and wanted to leave, MrsG mentioned that our friends seemed to be enjoying it. Post-film-in-pub-over-pint-critique revealed that they'd had exactly the same thoughts as us, but thought we looked like we were enjoying it! Arrgh!

I spent 1994 working for Aramco in Ras Tanura, living in Dahran/Damman. As above, a very culturaly different place. An interesting experience and one I'm glad I had.

It's only a month, you'll see something completely different.

I've got a bike for sale too…. Hadn't thought about the classifieds on here! Ta PP.

I've been around STW for about 6 years now. I don't post too often, but always have the chat room open in the background.

STW has had me in fits of laughter and floods of tears. It's helped me through depression, calmed my fears over having children, helped me buy shiny things, cars, hifi, and no end of useless gadgets. Introduced me to some great food, drink and music.

It's a bit like a pub really. Mainly populated by thoroughly decent human beings who can restore your faith in humanity at the drop of a hat. And there's the odd knob too.

    It's a great place. :D

Have you got a bike lined up?

Thoughts from the G family too.

Mrs G's Dad and my Mum have both been through it.

All the best. Leon and Sharon.

MrsG is, at this very moment, undergoing a competence based interview for the civil service. Poor girl.

I went through her application and the list of competences she was given last night in a mock interview – it's a complete load of bollocks that serves only to benefit those who can memorise bullshit and speak in hr-babble. Whether you are ideally suitable, experienced or qualified for the job is irrelevant. If you can not display and provide examples of the competencies, you will not pass the interview.

Not impressed. Oh, and I'm the JFDI type too, Jimmy.

However, as hilldodger correctly states – it's just a game. Treat it as such, say what they want to hear and you'll be fine.

Everyone does it. But not everyone will admit it. Bit like having a tommy-tank.

    No they don't.

I did 2 in April this year. I feel your pain. It bloody knacks. Try not to laugh/cough and do absolutely anything you possibly can not to sneeze.

Go to the Docs and get a prescription for some Co-codamol 30/500. If nothing else, they'll help you get some sleep.

I went to the hospital on day 4 and all they did was tell me what I already knew/feared. "Two cracked ribs and there's nowt we can do. Now MTFU".

Co-codamol and ibuprofen helped to manage the pain.

Being a Dad is the most rewarding thing I've ever done. Congrats young man.

Although, when I get my motorbike out of the garage every morning to go to work, I still stare longingly at my Santa Cruz chained to the wall, gathering dust. Not having been ridden for 3.5 years…

    I wouldn't change a thing. 8)

Another vote for a bike – get something relatively sensible with a 750cc+ engine and you can have fun and not get stuck in traffic.

    I've got a 2004 ZR-7s for sale if you're interested

Our two (currently aged 3.5 and 2). Have eaten what we eat since they were weaned – our diet is fairly normal. I.e. meat/fish/vegetables and very little processed food (meat from butchers & organic veg box). It saved all sorts of faffing about. When they were really little, we’d cook the meal and blend it to feed them; as they got older, we gave them more lumps. If they didn’t eat it, there wasn’t anything else available.

We’re really lucky in that they’ve taken to this really well – this also means that when they have the odd chocolate/crisp/cheese frenzy, we’re not too worried.

Another thing that I think also helped is that we’ve always sat at the table and eaten together – they see what’s on our plate and see us eating it.

Plus the kids have never eaten in front of the telly – it’s too much of a distraction (weekend breakfasts are an occasional exception as I sometimes put the telly on in the kitchen).

We still get occasional refusals of food but, after initial anxieties, we just leave them alone. If they’re hungry they’ll eat. If not, then it could be any number of things – tired, hot, teething etc.

Good luck, you’ll all be fine!

+1 Outwell. Well designed, well put together.

    freddyg

That doesn’t sound good to me. I like to know what I’m going to cook.

We get all sorts of veg that we wouldn’t have otherwise bought. Also means our diet is much more varied as we cook meals to use the variety of veg. We’ve been doing this for about a year now and it’s really good. Plus the kids are fascinated by some of the veg we get and can’t wait to try it.

Surely he has to take it to an abbatoire like everyone else, there’s laws about it arent there?!

    Yep. It’s his.

Organic veg box delivered from a local supplier and meat from the butcher in the village. The veg is miles better, seasonal and a nice surprise when it turns up as we don’t know what we’re going to get. Meat is much better quality but a bit more expensive. The butcher slaughters his own cattle and pork/lamb is from other local farms. His sausages are crap though.

We supplement veg, as and when required, with the local grocers.

This means a trip to Sainsbury’s (nearest supermarket) for dry groceries is only needed once every six weeks.

I’ve got two Outwells, theyre great. Well thought out designs and very spacious.

Don’t limit yourself to a 4 berth tent, just because there are 4 of you, they tend to be sized for midgets (apart from Outwell). Get a 5 or 6 berth.

IIRC, if it’s SORN you need the SORN document at the post office.
    Might be talking rubbish though

Not anymore, it can be done online.

Deft has made a good point though.

Another thumbs up for Dell here. I’ve recently bought a Studio laptop an am very happy with it, the XPS was just out of my price range.

As Avdave2 said, give them a call once you’ve got it spec’d up on their website, they will haggle a bit. I got a few ££s knocked off mine.

Also check this place out[/url] – they show all of the current specials on offer from Dell direct.

I grew up in and around Chorley/Leyland/Preston. Lived in Eccleston and Leyland, went to School in Leyland and Preston (Hutton Grammar).

At 18, I escaped and went to Poly. When I returned, I lasted about 6 months before I had to leave the godforsaken sh*t hole. I wandered a few miles up the A6 to Lancaster and fell in love (with my Wife and the city). Lovely place. Unfortunately, I left there 15 years ago because of the lack of work. I now live in a pretty, rural village in Leicestershire and am very happy. However, if I could find work in Lancaster, I’d be back like a shot.

I didnt know what proper worry was until we had kids [:)]

Me too. My little lad (aged 3.5) get’s his plaster cut off this evening – he broke his left fib&tib jumping puddles with his grandad. It was the first time we’d left him with anyone. When I got the phone call from my Dad, I couldn’t speak. My Dad, bless him, was distraught. These little creatures are so precious.

Hope she’s healing well Lowey, and that you’re okay too.

Be aware that the AA won’t cover you in the event of an ‘off’. They only do breakdowns.

I speak from the experience of spending 5.5 hours sat, with my bike and knackered ribs, at the side of the A52, two weeks ago. I’m an AA roadside relay member but the only way they would come out is if I paid a £102 surcharge and then they would only take me a maximum of 10 miles.

Flaperon – I’m on 30/500 (x2, x4/day) co-codamol. I don’t know about caffeine, but they do contain codine – an opioid (whatever that is).

Scaredypants – many thanks, I’ve just bought the entire european ibuprofen stock. I haven’t got aspirin to hand so won’t bother.

The B@stards at work keep coming over to try and make me giggle. They find it funny listening to me laugh/squeal at the same time.

Lined textiles in winter, textile jacket and leather trousers in spring/late autumn and full leathers in summer. I do 450 miles a week and for me it’s all the gear all the time.

No suit is going to protect me from an impact with an inanimate object, but I like to try ad minimise whatever risks I can.

Best thing I did invest in, though, is extra training, and it’s not that expensive. Go and sign up with your local IAM group for £120 and learn how to avoid incidents in the first place. 8)
