    Depends where you go.

The big resorts like Olu Deniz, Bodrum, Altincum, Fethiye, Marmaris etc, are all quite busy and, consequently, not particularly pleasant. Look slightly further afield and you'll find some nice places (Kalkan, Side, Kas, Turunc etc.. Dalyan used to be lovely, although I've heard it has developed somewhat).

Hotels or self catering? When are you thinking of going? (as mentioned, it gets extremely hot)

    Why not?

The management at the last place I worked at, got rid of all the cleaners to save money. We even had to empty our own bins (Gasp!). After a while, people got hacked off with the mess and towed the line.

I really don't see the big deal. It would have been nice to have cleaners, but once we'd got on top of the job; keeping on top of it was easy. MTFU and buy a jiffy cloth

Actually, barca, have you contacted your union about it?

Don't see the problem with it. After the initial clean, as long as people stick to the rota, it shouldn't take too long for subsequent going-overs and will be in a significantly more pleasant condition to use and keep clean.

Shame that your management have had to resort to such measures because of a few scummers.

    +1 HTC Desire.

Best gadget I've owned in years.

Do they do a smaller version, cuz my wife (who's a total technophobe) is actually impressed.

Same problem here! I'm well impressed and so is MrsG. I struggle to get it off her. :D

One good reason, the price! Its a mobile phone FGS!

Dylan – the Tattoo can be had for nowt if you're upgrading. It's free on my £15/month tariff.

Yes, there is one reason why you should not get it. The HTC desire is out now (on T-mobile).

Do you think the phone will physically last for two years?

If it's built like the other HTC phones, then yes.

I've had my current Asus/Vodafone-rebranded smartphone for over 2 years. It's not let me down yet. I bought a case for it and put a screen protector on it. It's fine, well used but fine. The reasons I want to swap it are: Memory Map fubarred the GPS chip (well, it never worked again as soon as the install was completed) and I'm a bit of a geek so want to have a fiddle with Android.

I've been on the phone to V'fone and spoken to retentions. The problem is that even they don't know when the desire is available.

I feel like throwing my toys out of the pram as I need one now! Bizarre really, I'm usually very patient and happy to wait, but not this time, for some reason!

EDIT: I requested my PAC code t'other day and they've just called me up. They told me that the desire will be available sometime between the 15th and 20th of April. Can I wait that long? Can I?

    shrickvr6 – any idea when it'll arrive?

I'm looking at the very same deal – am currently at the end of my contract with Vodafone who haven't stated when they're going to start shipping the desire.

Do I stay loyal in the hope it'll be soon and they'll match the T-mobile tariffs, or do I jump ship? I've been with them for years and haven't really got any complaints about their service – although with the desire, I'm curious as to whether they've tinkered with it like they did with the Magic.

Daytona boots here too. Best bit of bike kit I've ever bought. Prior to this, I had 3x pairs of Sidi "waterproof" boots. What a waste of money, I wish I'd bought my Daytona's years ago (Trans Open GTX).

As for Textiles. I've had quite a few suits, gradually going up in budget each time. FT/Oxford were garbage. Wolf and RST Pro (ha!) weren't much better – I ended up getting full refunds on both suits.

My current gear is a Weise Dynastar 2 suit (bought based on Ride reviews and comfort). Absolutely brilliant. Doesn't look great, but keeps me perfectly dry. I ride all year in all weather (28k miles last year in all but heavy snow).

Could be the ventilation in the room, missus has been using it a lot for drying clothes..

This caused a few thousand pounds worth of damage in our old house (we rent it out). Probably our own fault, but we didn't bother with 6 monthly inspections – first time and very naive.

The couple who'd had it were from a warmer climate so had the heating up full blast and dried all their clothes inside (never bothered with the washing line). Also, because they liked the heat, they never left any of the windows open either. Cue very damp walls, rotten floorboards and a new kitchen (floor was so bad that kitchen floor had collapsed under the units). Costly lesson learned.

Not sure about 'round your way, but the National Trust houses in the east mids generally have excellent playgrounds. Our nearest one is Belton House. The kids love it (plus I get to have a go on it too :D )

 I get mine changed into money-off fuel vouchers. Sorry Mr P. Bear.

EDIT: <guilt> I might actually change as I get very little in return. A couple of pounds every couple of months.</guilt>

Well in that case, feel free to abuse-away 8)

(no offence taken either – cheers)

If it'll help, I'll let you in on the reason why my 2x pairs of PS jeans are now due for replacement??

They both had a terminal failure in the arse region…..

molgrips – have you got nothing better to do? Shouldn't you be in double maths now?

I didn't ask for advice on how to dress, I asked for opinions on what is currently available in the cotton-based-workwear-trouser-department. I don't like shopping, any expedition time is also limited by the attention span of my 2x BabyG's (both under 4yrs) – I wanted to narrow down my choices so as to target the best establishments.

EDIT: self moderated sarcasm filter kicked in.

Diesel Larkies – look quite nice.

Edwins – if I was 10 years younger, maybe.

    Any opinions on Nudie Jeans?

I looked at the alpkit Jeans, but the knee detail put me off. I'll be wearing them for smarts too (as much as I ever do smart).

So far, my shopping expedition consists of Paul Smith, Diesel (lunch stop) then dash across town to Gap. Might be better to do it in reverse, start with the cheap ones first. I think I'll just about cope with that 8)

    Many thanks.

    Go into a shop.

I fully intend to. I just want to minimise the amount of time spent in the aforementioned establishments. I find shopping grim at the best of times. Even more-so if it's clothes shopping.

From what I've seen by browsing the on-line product lists of some mentioned above – I may end up going back to Paul Smith. The price has doubled in the last 10 years though.

Ewok – I quite like the look the the 503's. I'll see if I can find any. Thanks!

Petefromearth – can you post the recipe here? Failing that, I'd be grateful of a copy too. Ta.

    Right then.

I've just had a look at the Diesel website – the choice is bewildering. I gave up as most of the ones I looked at seem to be too trendy for me.

I wandered over to the Paul Smith site and found a pair I like..

Anyone want to buy a kidney? One careful owner.

Mudshark – I'm kind-of with you on that…. My last 2x pairs of Paul Smiths were just sooo much more comfortable than others I tried at the time. Plus they lasted about 10 years which, in my mind, renders them quite cheap.

    The trick with 501s it to size up, I'm a 34" waist and wear a 36" 501.

But don't they then tend to do that awful hanging-round-the-arse thing?

    freddyg

Yeti – I don't mind paying if they're going to last. My last Paul Smiths did 10 years.

There's a Diesel shop in Nottingham – I'll go and have a look. Ta.

Cynic-al – sorry, I haven't got the patience for TXMax. I'm one of those shoppers who goes on a mission. In, target acquired, out. Possible stop for lunch in a nice little cafe.

The concept of 'browsing' is not one I find particularly pleasant (I have two kids under 4 years old too). Hence trying to arm myself with as mutch info as poss in advance.

    Thanks all.

    Thanks chaps.

I never got on with 501's – I found the cut a bit odd, I preferred Silver Tabs (not sure if they still exist).

But yes, standard wash is preferrable.

Diesel. Hmmm. Aren't they a bit, umm, 'trendy'? Although, I like their shoes…

    Where in the W.Mids?

If I'm succesful, my new role will be in Leicester. I haven't got a problem with grumpy types – I'm pretty good at it too. And, in my experience (of 25+ years) IT qualifications do not neccesarily a good IT chappy make. Give me someone with experience first, qualifications second. I know several young chaps here who have qualifications coming out of their ears, but know nothing.

    z1ppy. Where are you based?

I'm currently working for a large international who are looking for technical architecture types.

I'm also down to the final two for a position in a small company in an influential IT role. The company is rapidly expanding so may need to recruit soon – one of my remits would be to "sort out" the existing IT staff. At the second interview, the MD let slip that they have 'personel'* issues.

I've had compatables for our canon before now. They're absolutely fine for general day to day printing on paper (colour & bw). But completely rubbish for photos on matt/glossy paper. I stump up the cash and just buy the genuine stuff now as I can't predict when I (or MrsG) may want to print phots.
