I haven’t tried it, but I did watch my cousin die as a result of her addiction. It took about 20 years and was so very sad

Her sister is also hooked as a direct result of trying to get her off it. She will go the same way too.

What are your views on jet aeroplanes on conveyor belts and have you ever tried Picolax? :-)

Oh. And hello from a former resident of Eccleston (near Chorley). It’s quite nice in here; be prepared to lose whole afternoons and gain a mind full of useless information.

If you haven’t got it, try the Allen Carr method. It’ll cost you less than a packet of tabs and may just sort you out: clicky-linky

It worked for me after many failed attempts with willpower alone.

    Good luck.

Two broken ribs and hayfever for me. Results of a motorcycle accident in late spring. Ouchy.

MrsG will concur with the votes in favour of gall stones. She had our two kids without any anaesthetic (well gas/air for the first. **** all for the second) and would rather go through child birth again.

Great telly. I actually quite liked Lisa Tarbucks voice over.

Guy is a top bloke, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him twice. Once at the TT and once at a bike show. Lovely fella.

Because sitting in a stationary car for hours on end is soul destroying. I’d much rather commute by train, but the costs are prohibitively expensive.

and an alum block and pencil… I think I might need it.

I have only had to use my stick three times in the few months of DE shaving. Unless you’re realyl slap-dash, clumsy or drunk you should be fine.

Quite right too. Anything else is just plain wrong.

I went with a Progress, which, although adjustable, is constantly set at 5

Really!! Blimey, I reckon I’d peel my face off with mine set to 5. I generally have mine set to between 1.5 and 2. Is this the calibration issue being mentioned?

    Thanks for the heads-up :D

I’ve just done the remote record thing, does anyone know if it is possible to series link remotely too? (Sky, by the way.)

I’ve got a Canon MP990 multifunction device and it came with a caddy for scanning 35mm film. I was very sceptical as to whether the quality of the final image would be any good, but was very, very impressed with the results. It cost around £200 2 years ago, but has now been superceded by the MG8150(I believe).

I would very much like to have them, unfortunately I’m a couple of hours drive away

    Good luck in selling them.

it’s the people that keep sticking in jibes

Apologies if you feel that is the case, I doubt it was intended. However, the majority of the comments that have registered with me have all been positive – not at all implying you’re being stiffed.

As for your beard growth (and smoothness post shave), maybe your beard is quite fine or slow growing? In my pre DE days, I would need to shave twice a day if going out in the evening. Otherwise I would look like some sort of pikey/criminal/insert-scruffy-unshaven-stereotype-here.

But yeah, each to their own. If youre happy with a multi-blade, then that’s fine. All I think people are saying is that a shave that’s at least as good (if not better) is available for less cost and only a little more effort. :D

+1 for the ginger beer recipe please!

I had a plant when I was a kid – neither me nor my parents realised it was boozy until I got absolutely mullered at age 11. Hic!

What about a series of geocaches? There are some pretty good multi-cache ones about.

FW – It is not BS.

I shave everyday; I have to. I spent twenty-odd years shaving with disposable cartridge razors. In Autumn last year, I picked up a second hand DE razor off e-bay for £8 and a selection of blades for £14 (I’m still less than halfway through them!) – I thought I’d see what the fuss was all about.

Both me and MrsG were astonished at the difference. So much so that she bought me a Merkur Progress and a Kent Brush for Christmas.

I used to hate shaving, now I look forward to it. It doesn’t take me 15 minutes for a shave on a week day, more like 5. But at the weekend I indulge myself and take my time.

The shaving rash that blighted me for years has gone too.

Try it – you never know, you may even like it. :D

I followed the Allen Carr method about 6 years ago. Stopped straight away and very, very rarely have any cravings.

I really don’t miss the stinky fingers either. I have no idea why I ever started, it’s minging…… well, actually I do. As a very shy, geeky kid, I was trying to be ‘cool’ when I went off to Poly.

    Good luck, you’ll be fine.

I did a Thai red fish curry for 12 of us a couple of weeks ago. It was delicious and was very easy to do; I did make sure I used a decent paste though (or, if you have time, make your own).

Depends on your budget, 2nd hand Rega Planar 3 or a new project Debut. Don’t forget a half decent cartridge

Another spinning fan here – I was introduced to it in November last year and was blowing out of my @rse after 10 minutes on the first session. I’m now going 2 to 3 times a week; have lost some weight and dropped a waist size.

Oh, I’m surprised no one has mentioned it yet. Take a towel and some water.

One square I would struggle with, two is fine. Fold in half (so 1 square in size, but two thick). Wipe, fold, wipe, fold, wipe, check. If necessary, fold again and polish. Easy.

Apologies turd-experts, when I typed “unsinkables” I meant “unflushables”

In that case, he’s not getting enought fibre, more neeps and tatties!

Paper usage, is he a scruncher or a folder?

Shower Gel, there is nothing between cheap Boots crap and Body Shop because the distance between them is so small you couldn’t get a fag paper between them. Head upwards to Clarins for men, take stock then head even further up to L’Occitane, Penhaligans etc. Smelly loveliness 8)

soobalias. Not really for riding – don’t forget, were all 40something IT keyboard warriors really, aren’t we  ?

Walking/everyday use really. I don’t mind getting wet when I get out on the bike. Budget is around the £100 mark (I’m looking for a gore-tex or similar fabric), and I’m not after anything too garish in colour.

I’m another who was brought up to believe that debt was bad. Consequently, I worry myself silly about the size of our mortgage. Even more so now I have experienced about a year of unemplyment over the last five years – it severely dented my confidence in my own earning ability and also wiped out most of the savings we had. Being rediculously proud and stubborn, I didn’t do the DHSS thing. Pillock.

Currently have £165k mortgage with 55% LTV (18 years remaining), 3k on a 0% credit card, plus another credit card we use for day to day expenses (to get the points) that is paid off in full every month. No loans. A few hundered in an ISA; pretty much bugger all in a few pensions but have retained our old house to rent out as an investment (£80k interest only mortgage currently at 50% LTV).

Actually, writing that down has been quite cathartic. We’re not doing as badly as we thought.

Are you referring to the IAM or RoSPA thingy?

I did the IAM test and it saves me a few £s a year in insurance premiums – about the same amount it costs me to remain a member of the IAM.
