    Odd…

I don’t see anyone arguing – just having a discussion and pointing towards other sources of information that may help in understanding what actually happened.

Do you need a bit of a lie down?

    It’s nice isn’t it?

I was there last Tuesday for dinner with MrsG (her birthday). I was very pleasantly surprised. If I was being picky, there were a few little things I could pick them up on, but they were details. The whole experience was very good.

RealMan – have a read of the blog posted above. The blog was written by someone who was actually there.

I know where you mean, but I wasn’t that impressed TBH – handy for the kids playground though

Fair enough. My Mother-in-law lives in Heysham and we head down to the prom so the kids can have a run around and we can have lunch/a brew. Breeze is our cafe of choice.

Another option (if you’re feeling flush) is lunch / afternoon tea at the Midland Hotel. Food is pretty good and the setting is lovely.

kcr – Have a read of the blog linked by blackhound above. It wasn’t isolated. There were also shots heading way out that were retrieved and directed into the net too. Don’t forget, these are the top players in the world.

kcr (moot point as they’ve been disqualified) they were deliberately serving into the net and hitting the shuttle out of the court.

Geoffj, I know the place you are thinking of. Not bad, but if in the area, I would walk west for 10 minutes to this place:

    Street view

    Really very good.

What size are you? I’ve got some almost new black business brogues for sale, size 42, cost £60, accept £30.

Stuey – I was brought up by ‘Victorian parents’ who thrashed this kind of stuff into me. I may look like a complete shambles most of the time, but at least my shoes are shiny :-)

I also make sure my kids shoes are polished daily too

Nice place – lived there in the early 90s. Should work allow, I would return.

Not sure It’s worth a day out though. Having said that Williamson Memorial and Park are nice. I think there’s a butterfly house up that way too.

You could continue to Morecambe. Despite what its detractors (who’ll be along as soon as I’ve posted this) say, the promenade is quite a nice place for a stroll if the weathers reasonable. Lots of little parks for the kids to play in plus interesting things to see. There’s a cafe at one end called Breeze (I think) that’s very good too. Just don’t look in-land – keep your gaze focussed out to sea!

    Edit: Beaten to it! :D

Endless shops containing nothing but trendy stupid pointy clown shoes which I really hate
I hate the whole experience of shopping for smart shoes, mostly because they are mostly so frickin ugly

And another here. I’m 44 FFS, I look bad enough as it is. Adding a pair of comedy shoes is just taking the mickey.

My last work shoe purchase was of a pair of Clarks brogues for around the £70 mark. They’re okay I guess. They’ve lasted almost 2 years so far and haven’t fallen apart yet – I do polish* them every day though.

I’ve previously been one of those types who have bought expensive shoes in the past, having them last a good number of years before replacement. Unfortunately, the arrival of children has tightened my budget somewhat.

*looking at some of the younger generation around here, this is now a seemingly lost art; involving the application of black/brown stuff, followed by vigorous brushing and buffing.

I’ve been following this since the beginning as I am not far off a similar scenario. Nothing to add that hasn’t already been said. All the best.

Oh and bigrich  nice one, well done.

If you want to head coast-wards, Southport is also an option. (Although it is about 30 years since I was last there!)

+1 for the South Lakes park.

If you’re in Ulverston for lunch then head to Gillams Tea Rooms and get the kids their own tea party. A tray with their own teapot (filled with squash), teacup, jam and cream scone and a few sandwiches. Our two love it!

Contracted for 37. Expected to work a minimum of 40 on client site. Can be deployed anywhere around the country.

Currently 220 miles from home – leave on a Sunday night after the kids have gone to bed. Do 40 hours on client site, head home on Thursday evening. Friday (and a couple of hours over the weekend) is spent doing non-client work. Pre-bid stuff, RFPs, general admin, expenses etc.

Have been with this employer for 21 months and have had enough. I miss my kids so much

Originally, I didn’t bother. However, having witnessed young MasterG hit the corner of a brick wall with his face, it is now compulsory.

He’s had a fair number of falls since and has bumped his lid – I’ve replaced one, but reckon it won’t be long before I need to replace his current one too.

    +1 for both suggestions above.

Mini micro is great for little-uns. They’ll be zipping about at a fair rate of knots in no time. We bought a Razor for our eldest (aged 4 at the time) and he still loves it (he’s 6.5 now). Very robust and cheap as chips.

Hi MC – yup as CTM said, the £18 is for my current deal. If I could stay on the same deal but with a cash contribution to the handset (like when I got my current Desire), I’d be happy.

That’s interesting Breadcrumb. My HTC Desire was up for upgrade back in March and, like you, I haven’t done it. The Desire is a great phone and does everything I want it to do. The low memory warning is annoying and I might have a look at a ROM if I decide not to upgrade.

Looking at the One X though, it’s tempting. I’d need to find a decent deal though. I pay £18 for mine: 500 mins, unlimited SMS (WTF for?? I only send about 145 a month!) and 500Mb data.

More data would be good – I’d gladly trade fewer mins/SMS for that.

Bluebeard is very good. Geo Trumper Lime cream is nice (in fact, lots of the Geo Trumper stuff is good – I had a load of samples from them). I use Arko while travelling (<£3.00 on e-bay) and have just been bought some Spanish Fig and Nutmeg which is lovely.

Chris Moyles almost single handedly turned me away from Radio altogether. Fortunately, I discovered 6music and all was well in the world once more. I couldn’t stand his self-centred, aggresive, obnoxious style. It just wasn’t pleasant.

I listen to the Grimmy / Annie Mac show on a Sunday night and really quite like their style; the music is good too. The only irritation is with the name dropping – “I was at such-a-bodies back stage party the other day” etc, etc. But mleh, who cares.

Morning listening is Radio 2. I can tolerate Evans and the music he plays isn’t too bad. He has a reasonable mix of talk/music. Sean Keaveney (SP?) on 6 get’s on my paps – it’s the only show on there that does.

Which is my point – the use of cameras to impose fines with impunity (impunity that is to the nuanced situation I described above) cannot be argued to serve the public good 100% of the time.

Cool. Will you stand up in court on my behalf then? I Got an SP30 from a Gatso – I was doing 58 in a 50 on an empty dual carriageway at 22:30 on a Sunday evening. I wasn’t hurting anyone and all the children were in bed.

By the way, I paid up as soon as I received the notice. It was a fair cop.

It should start to slide. But it depends upon the road surface and the quality of your tyres.

If you’re lucky, you’ll lowside – the bike will lie down and slide away from you, you’ll slide along after it wearing away at your protective clothing before going through and onto skin.

If you’re unlucky, you’ll highside – the bike will start to slide, the tyres will find grip and kick you off. You will be catapulted into the air and land hard…. Followed by more of the above rolling and sliding.

I’ve done it on a track but really wouldn’t want to try on the road.

really? 50-60mph in a, say, 30m radius(90deg) bend (using the lane) would be doable?

Absolutely right A_A. Nothing beats forward observation. You’ll get to fettle with levels of grip when you start your observers training – riding off-line to get the best view of your observees can be interesting to say the least 8O :D

You can find the limit of the bikes cornering ability, but best to do it on the track. Generally, if your hero-blobs are down then you are about there. You can take it further, but you will be pretty much at the edge of your tyres.

EDIT: As for it breaking away, it depends very much on the tyres, your speed and the road surface. Bottle (or lack of) has stopped me from finding mine – do get the blobs down on occasion though; it’s also nice to know I’m getting good value for money by using the whole of the tyre.

Cant see a track day helping too much with road biking tbh

It’s all about being smooth and getting to know how your bike behaves. Track style cornering knowledge can do a lot to get you out of trouble if you over-cook it. Saying that, it’s best not to over-cook it at all! Handy to know that your bike can out-corner you though.

Track days are a good shout. Do one with “No-limits[/url]“. It’ll cost you about £120, you do it on your own bike, you get an instructor and get to play on some of the best short-circuits in the country. I’ve done a couple and they’re an absolute blast – even on my big old heavy Blackbird
