Any thoughts on Good Energy? I was with them a few years ago when I was working away from home – renting was much nicer (and cheaper) than hotels.

Proper spherical wok like my mum had: might not work.

Yep, that’s the chap. I didn’t think so as the contact area will be very small.

Daft question…. If I get an induction hob, what do I do with my wok?

Just had an email from Richer Sounds. They’ve got some Sony jobbies on offer that can be paired:

Just done our bathroom with Valspar paint. After donkeys years of using dulux, crown etc. I’d buy valspar again. Covered really well and is very easy to apply.

Another thumbs down for Brookson. Their incompetence cost me £11,000. ****.

Have you checked the speeds available to you from other service providers?

Its an important part of growing up to not get what you want,

Jeez. Lighten up. You do realise that it’s okay to be nice to children occasionally? To make them happy?

My Son wants many things too. Some he gets, most he doesn’t. However, if it was within my power to provide him with an experience he really, really wants; something he was passionate about, then I would do what I could to let him do it.

Binners makes a very, very valid point though. The lad wants to go to a football match!

I’m a Sunderland supporter of over 45 years and I would also recommend taking him to see Newcastle if they’re your local team. Big stadium, decent football but always a good atmosphere.

If premiership footie is a must, then take him to Sunderland. Tickets are cheap and there’s always a decent crowd – shame the football will be poor! Pick your game though, look for decent opposition.

The next home game is at the end of the month against Arsenal. Get tickets in the family section or the west stand (a bit more expensive therefore attract a different kind of supporter).

Well I was really comparing operating systems

Fair enough. Windows 8 is bobbins, 10 is a vast improvement IMO.

A moderately speccified windows 10 laptop will do exactly what you want OP. What’s your budget?

@Drac – the club were told by Johnson that he was pleading not guilty and, on the advice of their legal council, rescinded their own suspension of him (innocent until proven guilty and all that). As soon as he pleaded guilty, they sacked him.

The player lied to the club to keep the cash rolling in (my assumption).

Throw the book at him….. And make sure its a big heavy one with very pointy corners.

If you like real ale, pop in to Barrel Drop.

If you don’t know the city centre, it might be tricky to find, but isn’t far from Market square. Pop in to The Bell on the square, come out of the front door and look left – on the opposite side of the road, there is a little alley way – Hurts Yard. It’s up there. A little gem of a place.

@mrsfry I haven’t noticed the nightmares (vaping for nearly 2 years now). As for trouble getting off – I assume you’re referring to ‘sleep’? I’ve found that if I vape a lot throughout the evening, then it can be difficult nodding off to sleep. The leaking nose – yep, occupational hazard!

The Beast Quest books are good if they like fantasy/dragons etc. My Son (9yrs) loves them.

Just switch it off. It does work.

Not when your 9 year old gets out of bed at 5, and sneaks downstairs to play on it. He’s then wrecked come the end of school.

“No” works for a while, as does removing privileges and hiding the controllers. But an easy way to avoid confrontation is to set a time limit. We have one set up on the android tablets and PC and this works fine.

I don’t mind administering a bollocking, but it becomes tedious and causes unnecessary upset for both of us. Re-implementing the 360 time limiting system would solve it.

    EDIT:

    Timer switch on the mains

    Been there, done that.

It was relatively easy for kids to work around that.

Possibly, but something is better than nothing.

    Hide the controller.

This is currently our #1 tactic

Yes Cougar, there are some controls – age appropriate stuff and the like (and very good they are too), but…. the ability to impose time restrictions has been removed.

On the old box (my Brother-in-law bought one for his Son) it is possible to limit the amount of time they can play on it. That feature has been removed from the Xbox One

If you know how to add this, I will be a vary happy parent :-)

    +1 what ben said.

I bought an Xbox One for my 9 year old – he was desperate to move on from the wii. A couple of his friends had the xbox one, so we went that route over the PS4.

There is no denying it is a great machine, just not aimed at the younger market. Getting (suitable) games for it is not easy.

One feature that has not been carried over from the 360, is the parental control. On the old box (my Brother-in-law bought one for his Son) it is possible to limit the amount of time they can play on it. That feature has been removed from the Xbox One.

A clean install will wipe everything on your C: drive. Your data will be safe though as it is on another drive.

FWIW, earlier today I installed the SSD I had bought on Friday (thank you Amazon Prime free trial), and cloned the old HDD onto it. A minor faff, but it all works. I used Macrium Reflect (free) to backup the original HDD and then clone the HDD to SDD.

The effect is astonishing. It’s like a new machine!

I’ve just ordered more RAM and an SSD (checked the compatibility with the Crucial scanner thingy).

Any tips/experiences/straight forward options/ for transferring the OS over?

TIA and apologies for the (relevant) hijack.

I think there’s a generation that were brought up to go round to the kitchen of people they knew’s houses – there was always someone likely to be there. Front door was for formal occasions. He probably thinks he’s just being friendly.

    This’ll be it ^

When I was a young lad, everyone came to knock at the back door. The front door was only used by people we didn’t know. Even postie knocked on the back door if he had something too big to fit through the letterbox.

Killers for me too. I lost interest when Bruce joined – I just don’t like his vocals.
