I wonder if they are going to increase the limit for HGVs, Towing etc, otherwise there is going to be a significant difference in speed between vehicles which’ll be fun 🙄

I believe I covered that in the other half of the post you’re quoting.

    😈 I feared that’s what you meant!

Pretty much everywhere else uses NSL signage.

    Except Scotland!

It will increase fuel consumption, emissions and congestion. Genius.

To add another slant to this, I’ve bent(!) a carbon seatpost and snapped spectacularly a set of Alu bars….

    I reckon that’ll be ‘reet.

I’ve had a bigger dent in my Inbred seat-stay for the last year and it’s still fine. Though it is steel rather than Alu I suppose.

    Cheers Jim.

That sounds like a good route – will probably do some thing similar. I wonder is Red Road -> Hare Hill will be dry…

Anyone who fancies joining in I’ll be at Bonaly (car park not shop by 7pm). Be warned though I’ve put gears on my bike for the first time in 5 years so you will have to listen to me grinding, creaking, crunching and probably snapping the chain!!

Hope you had a good ride. Where did you go? What’s dry and what’s not at the moment?

    Probably heading out tonight.

You can buy tougher (but heavier) Steel hub bodies.

Probably more expensive than a splined cassette though!

EDIT: beaten by 11 seconds 😳

    +1 there TJ.

Looks like they knocked them to the ground, put a few boots in and then wander off.

    Mob violence anyone!!!

I think I have a spare one at home. Send me an email (in profile) to remind me and I’ll check.

If I do you can have it for nothing if you stick a few quid in the next MRT collection tin you see…

Good work. Though I take issue with calling it a bodge, you’ve practically fixed it!!! 😆

    This is a bodge:

I’ve used an elastic band to the seat stay before.

    It sort of worked….

I think On One still have good deals on RockShoks…

We have one of these in Red which makes good coffee and is fairly quick:

You can use ground coffee (we founds lavazza espresso to be best) or pods which I’ve never used outside of the free ones which came with it as they are expensive.

    HTH.

I think thebikechain saying these things is less than professional

I think it’s refreshingly honest although probably promted by the fact that the ultimate owner of shedfire/hotlines is CRC..

If we are going down that road you might want to think who the ultimate owner of The Bike Chain is too….

Funky dunc – I believe quite often they use incidents like this as “live exercises”

Yep, you can actually make a fairly convincing argument that the overall cost of RAF helicopter use for Mountain Rescue is negative as they use it for training and if they didn’t they would have to pay extra to set up exercises.

If I understand it correctly when the paramedics request RAF help they can just say no without giving a reason but they don’t as even if the injury isn’t life threatening it is good training.

Kunstler – hope it heals up quickly!

No experience of these but you can get On One steel ones cheaper and there is a selection of colours if that affects things!

Aye, bridge wasn’t in existence when we did the Lairig Ghru – Glen Feshie Loop last Autumn.

We forded the river, it wasn’t the first one of the day and we were pretty wet so it didn’t matter but I imagine at the start of your day it would dull!

+1 to Al’s no skidding please!

    Found another calculator; http://lenni.info/edd/

    Which gives 258 too.

Think I’ll go for that and assume I’m doing something special with spocalc!

Thanks for your help guys. 😆

Cheers mboy wheelpro gives me 262 for a 32 h . As you say it a 36h I’ve got so I’m guessing 258 is correct.

Not sure what I’m doing with spocalc though. I have it set to 3x 😕

Cheers guys but I’ve confused myself!

    Using the following:
Left Hub Flange Diameter – 56mm
Right Hub Flange Diameter – 54mm

    Left Flange Distance – 31.5mm
    Right Flange Distance – 20.5mm

    ERD – 541mm

    I get 258mm from w.wheelpro.co.uk/spokecalc/

    but:

267 left and 270 right (!) by using the spocalc spreadsheet: http://sheldonbrown.com/rinard/spocalc.htm

Can anyone see what I’m doing wrong?!

    😥

Assuming you have a shower and changing facilities I would go with a bike.

Google reckons about 20 mls, so unless you can come in at 7am and leave before 4pm I reckon bike will definitely be faster.

If it is a couple of years old then it will only technically be rated to 100mm. However there are plenty of people running them with more – I’ve seen up to 140mm.

Personally I won’t go over 120mm or it all go a bit wandery uphill!

TJ + 13th – fair enough. It is quite a nice bit of trail when dry unfortunately that is very rare! I accept its not well used so not a priority but I think it would be good to have on the list if we can make this a regular thing – if it was repaired, in combination with the Capelaw SE traverse, it would make a good alternative to Phantoms and help remove some of teh traffic from there.

Tbh I’m happy whatever we do 🙂

You probably know it as something else, but it is the path running down parallel with Kirk Burn

If I recall correctly we can’t do Black Hill or Den’s can we?

My vote would therefore be Clubbiedean then the Kirk Burn Path….

13thfloormonk – wasnae me I was on a rigid White Inbred. Was at Bonaly around 7 though…

’twas a good ride, cracking weather. Including my commute I think it was a 60km day, not bad for a work night 😀
