Following the update is the first time I’ve ever been able to load courses onto my Edge. I used to be able to upload my rides but not the other way round.
I’m impressed with their hardware, but the software is a bit rubbish IMO.

off road there’s too much faffing

    Innit though. 🙄

Nearly all of my riding is solo.
I like the freedom to go where I want without having to consider anyone else’s opinion and I can go at what pace I feel like on the day.

The downsides as I see them are:

If I can’t find motivation, it’s too easy to slack off if there’s nobody else to let down by staying in.
There’s nobody to talk over the highs and lows with afterwards.
Riding with faster riders makes you faster.
No one at hand in case of an accident.

I do the odd event here and there and occasionally (hardly ever) go on group rides, but mostly it’s Billy No Mates.

I still ride my Genesis Fortitude SS, but of late just commuting as all of my other riding (on and off-road) has been on my GT Grade.
(Lost interest in MTBing a bit.)

Who are PSB? Or is that actually their name? Is it like Peter Maxwell Davies but with a different name?

My guess would be Public Service Broadcasting. (?)

Bought a Genesis Io from Swinnos on Cannock Chase.
Rode out from the shop and leaned it up against the trig point for a new bike photo. I took a few steps back and it slipped & fell, deeply scratching the seat stay & seat tube.
Not exactly ruined, but permanently damaged in about 10 mins flat. 🙄

Spend some time in the old city at Dubrovnik. It’s amazing.
I wish we hadn’t left it until the end of our holiday to visit, because I’d like to have been able to spend more time there.
We went by boat from Plat where we stayed. That was a great little trip. 🙂

People with no spatial awareness get on my nerves however, and also the idiots pushing through the crowd to either a) get nearer the front, or b) get their drinks back to their chums near the front.

Yeah that! Especially when you’ve taken ages to create a little bit of dancing room and some selfish idiot jumps straight into it, so your face is about half a millimetre from the back of his / her head! 😡

I also have had an issue with people who come and ram out the dance tent after the open air stages have finished for the night, who have no interest in the music and just want somewhere warm to stand and talk to their mates. This is usually as the headline acts are starting and you basically can’t move a muscle, let alone dance.

Actually, the freewheel slipped on the commuter this morning and I had a bit of a tankslapper moment, which I luckily managed to save.
Should probably do something about that now… 😕

I ignored the noise and play in the BB on my commuting bike until the axle wore so badly that it snapped through on the way home one day.
I’m really lazy when it comes to looking after that bike, as I use it every weekday, whatever the weather.

    It was OK, I thought.
    I’ll watch the next one.

Isn’t gravel biking for people who have finally realised that the area they live in is actually pish for mountain biking?.

LOL! That was pretty much the main reason I bought one!

I don’t like the idea of huge tyres. The appeal of the bike to me, is that it rolls really fast and feels like a road bike. If I lost that, I may as well ride an mtb instead.

I’ve used my “Gravel” bike on old-school mtb routes in Wales and so on. It’s amazing what you can ride with care and it does take me back to my early mtb years – but the main advantage of this kind of bike, as far as I’m concerned, is that with some slick tyres on, it’s fast enough to do proper road rides on, without feeling held back – so it saves me needing to buy a pure road bike too.

    Books for me.
They look better lined up on the shelf, smell better and give you something tangible for your money. I spend too long looking at screens already.

I’ve been recommended the Hope Tech XC 29er wheels, but they’re a bit heavier than you’re looking for.

Funnily enough aP, – the Tour Of The Black Country is one of the rides I want these tyres for!

I don’t think I can get 38 or 40mm tyres in the frame or the bigger MSO or Gravel Grinders would be on the list.
Odd how there’s lots of choice at 32 & 40mm, but not so much at 35…(Which is what I’m after really.)

I’m terrible for not going to see the doctor.
One time after breaking some ribs in a crash on the MTB, I woke up in the middle of the night in agony and went to the bathroom to walk it off a bit and get a drink of water.
I remember reaching the sink and then the next thing I knew, I was coming round on the floor, soaked in sweat with the missus slapping my face and looking anxious.
Should have gone to get that looked at I guess – just to be on the safe side…

I never bother logging my commutes. A couple of those I follow do though.

A huge shock hearing this. What a huge loss, he was an amazing guy.

His earlier work and styles were influential & ground-breaking, but I was also massively impressed with how he moved with the times and embraced new musical directions in a convincing way, making them his own, rather than cashing in on the latest trends.
    A true mover & shaker.

    RIP David.

Setup looks fine, move the levers closer to the bars using the reach adjust (I can’t even slightly pull the brakes from the drops without doing this as I have short, stumpy fingers)

Turns out that’s all it was. Screwed the reach adjust in a bit and all appears fine. Will give it a proper ride tomorrow morning. 🙂

BTW franki; I checked for a seatpost and it’s gone. Must’ve given it to someone else

No worries! Thanks for the offer anyway! 🙂

    Yeah, very helpful ahwiles.

    1) I’ve got a new helmet now for the road with no peak, but it was never an issue.
    2) I’d be happy if I could get one finger on the levers without a painful stretch!
    3) I’m guessing you haven’t read much of what I posted. 😉

    Hi Sleigh62.

I liked the feel on the hoods, with my hands sloping outwards, but on the drops I found my hands fell where they would on a regular drop bar and my fingers had to support most of the weight. When standing up, they just felt a bit vague – maybe they flexed a bit, I’m not sure. They were ok off-road, but for long road sections, the wider stance was not ideal IMO.
The drop is a little less on the new bars, which I find more comfy as well as the narrower width at the ends.

When I had the bike, the stem was flipped the other way up, so it had a lot more rise.
I’m much happier with the bars a bit lower – just need some fine-tuning I think. As I said earlier – I’m happy with the position, other than the brake reach issue.

Try some Midge bars. They suit my small stubby hands perfectly

Thanks, but I’m trying to move away from flared bars, as I don’t like the feel from the drops.

Too lazy to read the whole thread. In the pic of the bike by the gate: I reckon that the levers are a touch high. Tops of the hoods should be horizontal.

Lots of CX riders angle them up though, for better control from the hoods. I like this position too, but it’s not helping my problem.

What about some different bars? I use these Ritchey Neo Classics that are comfy in the drops.

Those would certainly do the trick.
I’ll see what I can do first though, as I’ve already bought one new set of bars because I wasn’t 100% happy with those supplied and I do like the feel of the FSA Compacts.

I think I must have small hands. I wouldn’t be able to reach the lever in the position in this photo.

Perhaps I’m over-thinking the whole deal and reach adjustment might sort it. My position riding on the drops is comfy enough after all – it’s just the brake reach I worry about. I ride less in the drops because I can’t cover the brakes from my normal position and would be in bother if I had to slow / stop in a hurry.

Never used to have this problem with my old Cinelli bars & 600 Ultegra aero levers! 😉

I wouldn’t fancy climbing in anger on that bike of Bauer’s! 😯

I thought that was exactly the idea of being on the drops? Flatter back, engage the glutes more, more aero, more even weight distribution, better access to brakes.

But not to lower yourself to brake, even more than when you are comfortably riding on the drops.

Slight exaggeration – but I feel I have to do this to reach the levers:

    …oh and:

    e) Try a layback seatpost again!

I don’t have a turbo trainer any more. (I got rid of it when I stopped road riding all those years ago…)

I lowered the seat by just a few mm. Cranks are (I believe) 172.5mm.

I think my plan of action will be:

    a) Stick to the shallower FSA compact bars. (Not the flared GT ones in the riding pic, which are back on again now.)
    b) Adjust the lever reach.
    c) Raise the stem by one spacer.
    d) Check my saddle height again and lower if needs be.
