    What’s the synopsis?

    Don’t call me Nora!

In addition to cameron walking away from sunak’s shadow cabinet, richard holden – he of chicken run infamy – has stood down as tory chair.

With a majority of 20 following a recount and after being foisted onto a constituency which didn’t want him as their candidate he clearly had no credibility so his departure is no surprise.

tj – give it a rest; give me some examples which show Angela Rayner to be a ‘phony’.

You don’t like her? Fine; doubt she would be in the least bit bothered.

Referring to her in derogatory terms in definitely not fine.

She is confident, competent and has never tried to hide her background.

The number of people on this thread posting about Gaza being a factor in voting choices is very small but they post repeatedly and at length in an attempt to amplify their views.

As for Rachel Reeves’ speech with the announcements about planning, housing and onshore wind she had to move quickly as a government is at it’s most popular immediately following it’s election. I like what she said; it’s another example of focus and intent – the grown-ups have regained control.

Will be interesting to see how the markets react.

Have you posted previously about your daughter’s experiences of landlords and house sharing in uni-world?

    I wouldn’t be saying…meh, move on; I acknowledge you aren’t.

For those tenants saying…meh, move on, they are in for a very rude awakening when they realise they are nothing other than opportunities for more savvy people to prey on.

If it was me – direct to the vice-chancellor telling him/her you will be in contact with local media in seven days unless you receive an acceptable response by return. Define what you mean by ‘an acceptable response’.

    Say it…DO IT.

Cherry Chouffe is, as above, lovely.

La Duchesse Chocolate Cherry; Mongozo – banana, coconut, mango; Liefman’s kriek; Kriek boon; Vocation kirsch of death (before that, Imperial kirsch – possibly some re-branding going on there); Blue Monkey raspberry weisbier.

Samuel Smith’s- yes, the Yorkshire brewery – do some very drinkable fruit beers but they’re not readily available.

For low alcohol fruities – Flotzinger Radler, Schoffferhoher ( umlaut missing) grapefruit or pineapple.

I like these ‘experts’; they seem to know what they’re talking about – that’s a novelty after the past 14 years.

As for the few losers’ speeches I heard, they were – generally – gracious and considered.

On a different subject, I’ve just been looking at the results in Lincolnshire; it must be the racist centre of the UK.

Changing subject again, my constituency – Newark – was retained by jenrick and I’m beginning to think that, after a suitable period of reflection/introspection, there should be a deep dive to establish whether or not Labour really/fully understood the constituency dynamics. It’s a very white constituency and, based on my campaigning activities, there is a surprisingly high level of racism underneath a thin veneer of ‘middle class repectability’.

Some suggestions that truss is out – no declaration yet.

At a local level – jenrick re-elected in my constituency with massively reduced majority; was 21,000+, now 3,500; hugely disappointing. More later.

Galloway out – fantastic news; kinnock’s reaction live on BBC – priceless.

Chicken run Holden appears to be on his way OUT.

The frothing about Starmer’s longevity as PM and how the party will govern can wait – for a few hours.

Never forget that the tories have royally ‘ked the country and it will take a huge effort, massive commitment and a chunk of goodwill to make any meaningful progress.

    @dissonance
    – what do you want from the Labour government which will exist from Friday morning? You have been highly critical but what you want/expect is far from clear.

Francois for tory leader – you read it here!

That should finish off the tories completely as they are absorbed by Reform.

As some of the very last polls showed Reform winning 13, thar part of the exit poll isn’t a huge surprise – but is both concerning and disappointing.

At about 5pm today Labour sent a text saying that about 100 seats were too close to call and wanted everyone available to help get the vote out; don’t know if that was a genuine concern or a bit of scare-mongering.

@somafunk – always loved live music but just got out of the habit so…am now getting back into it – in my usual mad and unstructured way.

In the past 11 days – from home in Newark which is something of a music desert – Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets at the Sage/Glasshouse, Mavis Staples at the Union Chapel, Kaiser Chiefs and Gregory Porter both at Lincoln Castle.

Wanted to see Madness at Lincoln Castle but…didn’t happen.

Yes, it’s mad; unsustainable and expensive.

Max Richter is touring later this year so that’s a possibility, Thea Gilmore in Nottingham is a must, David Gilmore at the RAH but ticket prices are £££££.

It’s all eclectic but…my money, my choices.

    Are D:ream touring anytime soon?

    Plans for election night?

Long-standing booking to see Nils Frahm at The Sage (Glasshouse) in Gateshead so…vote, 2.5 hrs drive north, eat, go to gig, check phone for exit poll prediction when I leave, drive 2.5 hrs south; may go to count as CLP member but Newark not due until after 3am so will possibly (probably?) watch/listen to beeb.

We’ve got quite a selection of candidates in Newark – Lab, tory, LD, 2 different flavours of independents, Green, Reform (racist), English Democrat (even more racist), george galloway’s mob.

Disappointing that the Monster Raving Loony party haven’t put up a candidate.

tj – you bang on incessantly about streeting being a paid shill for truck knows what; why not give it a rest until after the election, let ‘the dust settle’ and then decide what views you wish to emit – based on the facts.

You may be irritated/annoyed/frustrated by Labour’s NHS policies but – never forget the four Fs…First Find the F Facts.

    Facts, Facts, Facts.

Assumptions, presumptions, allegations, preferred interpretations are all irrelevant.

Always, ALWAYS test drive  – longer the drive, the better your ‘feel’ for the car.

I have no experience of Honda cars – other than writing one off about 30 years ago – so cannot comment about build quality, mechanical reliability or electronics.

tj – is that your stealth lonely hearts ad up there^^^

    For clarity, I’m not interested.

As a marketing/money making suggestion…Mark could set up a dedicated STW dating forum; annual membership fee, names anonymised, bonus payment for successful matches. None of these cycling types talking about torque settings, crank lengths, dropper posts, what lycra etc – sounds a bit fetishistic.

What could possibly go wrong? 🤔

    Your CLP can provide information.

The personal insults are…tedious, irrelevant and boring.

At least binner’s posts have some humour to them.

The truth is…nothing that anyone posts to this thread or any other on STW or anywhere else will cause anything to change.

It’s nothing more than hiss & wind.

    Carry on…

You’ll probably be encouraged to look at the screen seeing what the endoscopist is seeing as the camera is wiggled around your bendy bits.

Ah, that’s what the pipes look like when they’ve been cleaned.

There will be another couple of medicos in the room so while the endoscopist is telling you what they’re seeing the others could be having random chats about…holidays, what’s good in the sales and other random stuff – which goes some way to ‘normalising’ what’s happening.

If you’re having a camera into the fundament you’ll be fine to eat whatever you fancy.

You’re overthinking it – unless, of course, it’s something  a bit more serious.

To repeat/refer back to earlier posts…tories are rank amateurs on extorting funding; they’re just so cheap and easily bought.

Be American – you want my support? That’s a big fat ‘donation’ plus 50% of the upside.

Go large or go home; scratching your arse over the cornflakes or counting the squillions in SoCal – your call.
