Got a bit of a sore throat this morning, so think a cold might be in the post.
Off work next week too. Bugger…

GT85 works better than hairpsray for this.
Neither are as good as lock on grips though.

To stop it squeeling, you need to change the resonant frequency of the system to one that is less annoying.

Also try reversing the polarity of the flux capacitor.

I got the Red Dog Racing bleed kit and it seems fine.
Doesn’t make the Elixir bleed any less of a PITA though.

Give it a go and see what you and your son think.

As a Judo coach, I say do Judo of course, but Boxing may work. My only concern is his age, and the type of training sessions they run. My old Muay Thai club tried running kids sessions for a while, and they just didn’t work. Main reason being that he ran them exactly like the adult classes, but shorter, so it was all skipping, excercises and padwork.
This was fine for the older kids, but the under 10s minds wandered.

Judo in the UK is dead organised and all BJA coaches should be qualified and CRB checked. It’s also recognised that youngers kids need to have lessons structured differently to keep them interested and learn the fundamental skills required. So classes for 6 to 8 year olds shouldn’t just be cut down versions of what 15 year olds are doing.

I’ve used hairspray, but true enough, I found GT85 worked better. Much less of a faff.

    More (old) noobie advice.
Theres some dirt trails in the woods near me that generations of kids have built jumps and stuff in.
When I’m out on my MTB locally, I always have a couple of laps round it, cos it’s so much fun.
It’s so much fun that I’ve been considering buying myself a 2nd hand BMX for it. Not knowing much about this, I reckoned a 24 inch wheeled one would be best, as it’s nearer the size of my MTB and I wouldn’t look like such an old tosser on it.
Am I right, or barking up the wrong tree?

First ride with SPDs. Had an over the bar crash and landed on my head, with the bike still attached.
20 minutes later I lost traction on a steep hill and stalled. I couldn’t get unclipped and as I fell, I stuck my left arm out. The whole way down I was thinking, “thats going to break”
    Thankfully it didn’t.

That was the beginning and end of my SPD experiment.

I take it you’ve followed the instructions in the kit? Took me a while to work out the step I was missing! All good now though :o)

What step was that, just in case I’ve missed it too.

here’s a tutorial video from sram

You know, I’d never thought of that…

    Hey, me too!
Had go number 3 last night, spent ages on it.
Had the caliper off the fork, bike upside down and would have sworn I’d made a better job of it.
No bloody difference at the lever.

Can’t be bothered with it again. Might just whack it into the LBS to get done once a year now.

1 and a half times round a wet Carron Valley with my wee brother. His first time there.
CV is always a good laugh.
We went to the pub after too. :D

Sounds like a variation on something I’ve been seeing a lot of lately.
If you have Malwarebytes installed, boot to Safe Mode with Network, run Malwarebytes, update it’s database and do a full scan.
Hopefully that’ll catch it, however, I have seen these things do some real damage that resulted in having to format and reinstall Windows.

    I’m near Glasgow

You get static off walkers up here? You do realise that they are talking complete nonsense, right?

I mostly only ever get crap off dog walkers while in Mugdock park, usually when using one of the main paths to connect trails together. This is despite being unfailingly considerate of them.

Anyone else get the boak at the thought of spending £70+ on a pair of trainers you only wear on your bike?

I’m currently rocking an ancient pair of Vans Rowleys that are just about to disintegrate. I alternate them with a pair of ultra cheapo Asda sannies that cost me £8.

“The Cloud” is the latest IT buzzword, beloved of Chief Execs and FD’s everywhere, as it is code for outsourcing, hence the laying off of internal IT staff.

what fork and wheels you got on your Core?
You upgraded the brakes on it, didn’t you?
Might be an idea thinking of getting a frame and transplanting bits, right enough.

You need a license to ride up here now anyway. And they’ve just ran out of them. Sorry.

The rocky bit and steps are great fun!

I had to eat my words a wee bit last night on the boardwalk. I’d just manhandled my bike over the 2nd or 3rd set, when I looked back at my brother, who was just hitting the same ones. The words “you’ll not make that” were barely out of my mouth before the little bugger cleared them both and ran into the back of me.

Craig, the C2W scheme doesn’t seem to be too hot now. In a few months the 2012 bikes will be getting unleashed, so you could maybe pick up a bargain then, if you can hold off.

I used to work with a guy from New Zealand, who rode to glentress (from Edinburgh) did three laps of the red and when offered a lift home said “you don’t get hard by being soft” and pedaled off up the road!

What you didn’t realise is that he probably had the car parked outside the pub in Peebles and drove home after a few pints and a curry.

franciscobegbie, I quite fancy the Crags route sometime soon, would Bowling Basin be a suitable starting point, and when are you free for a wee spin?

Any time. If the weathers good, I’m up in the Kilpatricks 2 or 3 times a week. I’m heading up there shortly. Could go on Sunday too.

I’ve never done the full Crags circular route, I normally go up the Humphrey road from Old Kilpatrick, over to the Black Linn and down the fast grassy track part of the crags loop to Overtoun House. So I always miss out the actual crags bit.

You could start from Bowling and head up my normal way – theres a couple of fun jumps near there and an entertaining drop on the way up through the Lusset Glen. Or head west towards Dumbarton and follow the waymarked Crags circular walking route from there.

Was the laptop dropped before it stopped working? if so Id be very cautious about using the drive at all as may be a physical issue with the drive (ie heads / platters) Any further spooling can worsen the damage.

If not dropped, Is the drive discoverable when you go into your “my computer” > Manage when connected via USB? if so then the data should be partially recoverable as more likely a boot sector / boot loader problem. If its not showing then would indicate towards a hardware issue as above.

If it is discoverable Ive had good results with DDR- NTFS recovery, did leave the entire drive structure on recovery, and a lot of the file names but good in an emergency.

    DDR Software

I would recommend cloneing the drive first before you attempt anything to drastic, and work on the cloned copy, again in case there is any physical damage.

And invest in an SSD drive as a replacement … fewer “surprise” issues with them.
    +1

Also, stop calling your work IT Support people geeks.
Nothing makes me engage my couldn’t care less filter faster than when colleagues hit me up for a homer and then call me a geek.

There are also a couple of alternative ways up to Loch Humphrey without using all of the steep track up from the Erskine bridge…

True, theres a couple of routes that go right over the brae, instead of round it, like the track. 6 and half a dozen though. Replace one ballbuster of a climb with a different ballbuster.
The track is the most direct route and is just the price I’m (reasonably) happy to pay for some good descents.

Up until you mentioned Sheffield, I was wondering if you were my brother in disguise.
He moved to Gothenburg about 4 years ago with his Swedish missus and 2 girls who are now 7 and 9.
Having been out to visit a few times, it looks a great place to raise kids. Far better than cramped and busy old blighty.

Had a mate that stayed in Clydebank and used to cycle up that fairly often. A proud moment when I cleaned that the first time..

    I hate you. :p
I’ve seen it cleaned once. Years ago, by my mate on his £100 Halfords special. The bugger stood up the whole way.
It’s a bit of an ambition of mine to get right up to the gate at the top of the steep bit without stopping.

    franciscobegbie

Is that a route that includes that absolutely murderous hill that starts near old kilpatrick and gets steeper and steeper and steeper?

Nope, Burncrooks to Loch Humphrey is coming the other way. You’re thinking of the access road that goes up to the loch from Old Kikpatrick.

    franciscobegbie

Even in good conditions, I don’t think it’s rideable the whole way.
Theres some decent trails in the Kilpatricks, I just don’t reckon thats one of them.

Yes, one of mine did. The story doesn’t have a happy ending though. She died almost exactly a year ago.
The vets couldn’t really do too much and reckoned she had Leukemia. Which is surprising as she was an indoor cat.
The symptoms here sound almost exactly the same, btw.

I am reasonably certain that my wee brother’s old Super Burner is still up in my Mum’s loft.
Might need to go for a rummage…

Takes me back. The Christmas morning that all my mates woke up to new Raleigh Burners, I woke up to a….Raleigh Arena 7 speed road bike.

Getting on well with a set of Advantages myself.
Careful though, they size up pretty big. The 2.25s I have dwarf the Mountain King 2.2s they replaced.
