Don’t be angry at him, though it’s perfectly natural.
He was ill, and it’s so sad that he wasn’t able to get help in time.

Funnel worked better than the syringe for me anyway.

There’s this thing called the Geneva convention. ..

Which, unfortunately, has this to say about the treatment of captured irregular forces

According to Article 4 of the Third Geneva Convention of 1949, irregular forces are entitled to prisoner of war status provided that they are commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates, have a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance, carry arms openly, and conduct their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war. If they do not do meet all of these, they may be considered francs-tireurs (in the original sense of “illegal combatant”) and punished as criminals in a military jurisdiction, which may include summary execution.

Or, see if you can borrow a 20 and see how you get on. I hired one last night and after a nervous start, started to get the hang of it. One of the guys had brought his 24 inch DJ bike, which I had a shot of. I much preferred the 20 inch BMX.
It’s a steep learning curve, for sure, but the fun factor is huge.

Have fun tonight Francis, let us know if your still in ine piece later.

All still in one piece. A few spills, including me, but that was great fun!
Some amazing riders in there, and a great atmosphere, I’ll definitely do that again.

41, having my first go on a BMX tonight, at Unit 23 with the Glasgow MTB Meetup.
I’m taking my 11 year old son for “moral support”.

I got an X Firm from bikediscount.de (sorry LoCo!)
Was the only place that had them in stock at the time.

Dead easy job. Took 10 minutes to do.

41 here. Junior is getting a BMX for his Christmas. I can’t wait for a shot!
I hanker after one, but wonder if at my age, never having had one as a kid, I’m setting myself up for a massive fail. People in the know are advising a 24 inch wheeled jump bike would be a better option.

Can you describe wheelcraft as a LBS? Doesn’t seem fitting, somehow.

Junior got a Nexus 7 back in January with his saved up birthday and christmas money.
He’d cracked the screen within a month and it’s repair would have cost more than he paid for the tablet itself.

If its only a couple of mm, it will probably rub. Dont think the tyre will wear through first either!!!

It’s rubber, it will wear down and stop rubbing!

That was exactly my thought process shortly before I wore a 1mm deep groove into the chainstays of my first aluminium MTB.

I’ve been using it for a while, but was dubious as to how it would fair in the soaking wet we’ve had lately.
    Seems to do ok!
Drivetrain is a lot cleaner, certainly. I’ll se how it does over the winter.

More exposure to salt off the roads in Winter killing them?

    Watching with interest.
I have a 2.35 XR4 of unknown lineage on the back of my HT. A mate gave me it, as it was too big for his bike. It’s the best back tyre I’ve ever used.
Grippy, not too draggy, tough enough and with loads of volume.
It’s starting to look a bit worn, so I’m after a replacement. Not sure what to get.

I picked up a couple of Vittoria Randonneurs for a tenner each from somewhere for the SS.
    Can’t fault them.
Wiggle have them for £15 just now

My sis in law just got her first job after qualifying recently. Maybe she can help?
Maybe not, she qualified in Scotland, so maybe it’s different up here.

And the remote is a rattly cheap piece of s*** which has developed more slop than is reasonable.

You can have my old remote lever kit.
Got everything, except the wee gear cable end cap thing.
It didn’t see much use, as I opted for the lever. £15 posted

I’ve gone back, not through choice.
My Hilo broke and I can’t afford to replace it. Not that I’d want to replace it with another Hilo, mind, I’d rather have a GD, but they are considerably more expensive.

A Blue Pig will be fine with 140mm travel. But, you seem to be worried about steerer tube length and stack height.
    How long is your steerer?
How long is your new headtube?
Whats the stack height of your headset and stem?

Vision Street Wear BMX shoes at Sports Direct are currently £15 and are as good as the classic Vans. Similar sole, very grippy.

Air chamber leak. I had dual airs and had a recurring problem with air leaking from the neg chamber. It escapes into the leg and eventually the pressure pops the dust seal.
I had the same issue fixed twice, unfortunately not under warranty. Put me off air forks, now on coil sektors.

I’ve always only had a HT. Would quite like an AM full sus, or even a full on DH bike, but they seem so expensive. I’d have a hard time justifying the cost to myself, never mind my family.

Go to the dentist and get a mould taken. Get one made from that. Should cost £30 to £40 and will give you a gumshield that is actually comfortable to wear.
That means you’ll actually wear the thing, automatically making it exactly 97% more effective than shop bought ones.

Still in warranty? Mine was doing that too and it went back to Upgrade for a warranty repair earlier this year.

Just started using Squirt on mine. Haven’t put enough miles in it yet to see if I like it or not.

I struggled when bleeding mine, using 2 syringes that come with the Epic kit. I found that when pushing fluid from the caliper up to the lever, the pressure required to actually push the lever syringes plunger up was too much for the seals in the lever, resulting in fluid seeping out of the lever reservoir.
I got round that by just taking the lever syringe’s plunger out when doing that stage.
This mimics what you would do with a Shimano bleed kit and its funnel.

Stevede – go for it. I don’t have the cash at the moment, am currently selling stuff on ebay to raise the funds!
I leaning towards coil rather than air. Mostly as I’ve never ridden a coil fork before.

So, those of you with them, do you think modern Sektors and Revs are as stiff as classic Pikes?

    Whatevers cheap at Sport Direct.
Got a pair of Airwalks just for the bike for £20 the other week. I’ll get as long out of them as I would 5:10s at 4 times the price.

Glad i’m not the only hater on here then. Deffo won’t be parting cash with them again. I can’t get over how they lied to me. A great big crack under where the front mech clamps onto the seat tube, I can only presume this is where some talented individual totally ignored any torque values when assembling the bike.

I’d be really surprised if you could torque a front mech clamp so tight that it would crack a tube, without the clamp itself breaking first.
Light alloy clamp v steel tube?

Be prepared for the carrier nuts on the spider to foul on your caliper or adapter mount.

Was tempted. Tried one on in the shop and it was comfy. Looks like it’d get bloody hot though.
    Anyone got one?

The old bit of inner tube on my 456 looks pretty tidy.

How can you put a big piece of ugly rubber on a beautiful frame like this?

Sorry, we are talking about an Inbred, right?

I went from 5’s to Deore’s recently. Great! They just work, with none of the fuss and, seemingly, luck required in Elixir ownership.

You can even cut the hoses down to the right length and put them back to together without haveing to bleed them.

This is true, unless you are a handless muppet, who tries to do the job on his own, with bodged tools.
On the plus side, the bleed is dead straightforward.

Just the 2. A 456 Evo and a Merlin road bike.
I think I’d like a full sus, but I also suspect I may be falling for the marketing hype. It’s moot anyway. No space and could not look my family in the eye if I dropped a couple of grand on a bike.

The handle end of an old toothbrush is my high tech solution.

There’s a special tool??? That people pay real money for???

    What he said!

I have a novel toothbrush styled Shimano compatible piston reset tool I could sell you for a tenner.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me this week.
I wound up using the lever syringe like shimano funnel, by taking the plunger out. Otherwise the friction of pushing the plunger up in the syringe seemed to be too much for the reservoir seal.

9 speed SLX double and bash.
When it was on, it was dead clear another drive side spacer would have sorted it out, but theres only meant to be the one, for that size BB shell, according to Shimano

It certainly would have worked if I’d spaced the cranks out more. Don’t fancy doing that though.
