    CaptainBudget – i disagree.

We ride with a guy who owns a blood. he is a goat. he loves the blood though rides it single front ring (32t) up all the trail centres we have got to with him so far. it’s only 5 inches of travel so why is it overkill?? relaxed angles but so are a lot of long travel hard tails now..
i have a heckler 6 inch travel been to the alps quite a few times. it’s the idea middle ground for me enough to ride alps trails but i’ve still ridden most of 7stanes and a lot of uk trails and lots of local loops yet according to you it’s overkill!! hmmm… k..

I like the place and hate the place..

IMO having been there quite a few times snowslave has rounded it up the the best for me…

the black are NOT black routes, red at most… but they get a LOT of mincers and maybe they use this to discourage the mincing brigade..

that stupid ass double (which isn’t a double just a single with a dip in it) in the middle of the jump loop needs ripping out asap!! or fixing it’s all wrong.

other than that stop asking and go ride it for yourself.
Personally i would say, if your any further than Manch (60 miles) then it’s better to go elsewhere as you will be disappointed. I’m lucky my lovely lady lives pretty close and we go play there a bit.

FYI the knobs causing braking bumps need shooting! the one thats AFTER a jump is totally stupid… you jump off soil which has a log edge and as you go over you can see a rut 6 inches after the log for 2 ft… about 4-6 inches deep!! WTF let go of your brakes….!

*tumble weed goes by* clearly reading up some MRB article about “value of angles”!

i rode an old Reign and i ride a 08 heckler both had good and bad points. my question would be do you see the difference between a alpine and the £500 difference to the reign?

    Olly

….also for what its worth as i understand it the alpine is poor value, purely because of its “radical” angles….

    (or so i read)
poor “value” due to “radical” angles!! WTF!!! seriously you’ve read far to much MBR!!
nothing “radical” about the alpine, seats a deree or 2 slacker, wheelbase in 2 n a bit inches longer than a tracer VP, it’s .5 degree slacker than a intense VP tracer in 6 inch mode.. go back to your mags!!

I have to say I feel for the guys who are there to enjoy a event and not get slowed by people who may be new to the event and who stop and look at things in the path/trail. (not been myself but have put off by the recounted tails of newbies to the event who block runs while they eye up the hazards with all the gear and no idea)

some of the regulars to the even wanted to split the even a little more now with a pre-qualifier.

have fun and good luck OP, glad to see your going out to get your eye in before hand.. don’t push it to hard at first would be my recommendation to any alps riding, i have a friend who is a good rider, wasn’t paying 100% attention and crashed on a rain gully you should have seen his shoulder!! ouchh

Any VAG 1.9TDI, there are 3 versions of the PD engine IIRC, 100BHP, 130BHP & 150BHP, the 100 has a red i on the TDi badge, the 130 has the Di in red & the 150 has all 3 letters in red IIRC

wrong but good advise on the car..

look for a 130 TDI in the VAG range i.e.
    a 130 fabia
    a 130 a3
    a 130 golf

this has a ASZ engine model in, that are HARD as nails. my GF has one in her golf over 105k and still going brilliantly, does 50+ mpg (real world not “on the computer BS) can fit 2 bikes in any of these guises of car with the audi a3 having a little more room, cheap to run and fix as all the parts from all those models “mostly” fit each other.

i had a 136 tdi focus and while it was ok the power was nothing like a 130 VAG engine and it did 43mpg real world where my 150 TDI does over 52mph real world..

(SC and intense paint is crap i have an anno 08 heckler atm)
think it’s between the orange alpine and the tracer vp then..

2 different bikes the alpine long and single pivot and tracer vp shorter vp setup.. can’t wait to try them.

    as above.

did mine a few weeks back.
remove the cap (qr or 20mm, if 20mm you need to remove the c clips first).
there is a tube inside the hub that rests against the bearings, push this down, then get a drift and knock the bearing. move the tube 180 degree’s and knock again, then move tube 90deg and knock and then 180 and knock, repeat until bearing is out.

to get them back in pop the bearing in the freezer for 20 mins and fine a nice socket (21mm i think …. maybe a different size though)
remove from freezer and drift it back in using the socket to support the sides of the bearing make sure it’s all the way in though..

    job done.

sim would love to see what you guys thought of the Orange alpine too :)

(p.s are these ppl talking rubbish about having to swap the shock to a coil/tftuning the shock? as they recon it blows though the middle of the stroke on the rp23’s?) thanks for all the input so far..

i’m so torn between something like a orange alpine 160 or a intense tracer VP….
i have 160 lyrik and 2 step (not worried about u turn crap, i can get my lyrik up most things) but my heckler is feeling slow n slugish now. i’m not jumping into a buy but i think i need to test ride a tracer and a alpine and see how i feel.
