After 12 years (19-7=12) of going to the doctors and waiting for hours in a room full of sick people, I too, would not waste my time going to a doctor as they have proved they do not have a cure.
fozzieFree MemberWhat spooky said and NFU.
My slightly modified 90 is with Adrian Flux, BIL’s ex utility Defender is with NFU.
fozzieFree MemberThe island can be seen from the Naze Tower:-

Landguard Fort (drive or seasonal passenger ferry from Harwich)
Colchester Zoo (40 min drive)fozzieFree MemberI would like to add that I was sober and that I replaced the door with a pair of side hung doors externally, which increased the opening width by twice the width of the 3 inch timbers that supported the original mechanism and increased the opening height by about 450mm.
fozzieFree MemberIf you dismantle the door, be careful of the balance springs.
I knew they were powerful as a friend of mine severed the tendons on the back of his hand as he released them.
When I did mine, I held the end and carefully cut the connecting wires.
I held the wrong end.
Judging from the pain and blood I thought I had broken my nose and the look on my neighbour’s visiting FIL’s face seemed to confirm this.
But my nose just hurt, the blood was coming from my head.
At least I can genuinely say that I have seen a reflection of part of my skull.
I had a headache for a couple of weeks, looking back I should have gone to hospital and still have a scar.
I suppose that is why we stupid males have skulls with brows ridges,
fozzieFree MemberI was thinking about this a few days ago in the pub, while using my wireless telephone to check the location of a bucket of jelly beans in Ireland.
fozzieFree MemberI have a TCe 90 Stepway, from new in October 2014.
I traded in my diesel Panda for it and my other transport is a 200TDi Land Rover, and had not had a petrol car since 2006.
I have stalled every petrol courtesy car for the last ten years so I was a bit wary of a 900cc petrol car. I even agreed to the salesman driving to a country lane first, rather than try it in stop-start Ipswich traffic. It is actually very hard to stall. I think newer cars come with ‘stop-start’ as standard.
I am now used to the lack of torque, but it still seems unnatural to change down to third to accelerate from fifty and to keep in fourth in a thirty zone.
When starting from cold, with headlights, fan, heated rear screen and A/C on, the acceleration is minimal until warm. This would be problem if I had to join a motorway via a slip road early on in my journey.
I have the ‘Laureate’ version with cruise control, I was not bothered about getting it, but I now love it. I find it particularly useful in long thirty zones and it is probably responsible for my continuing clean license. However, the lack of torque shows again when on an undulating road, it speeds up momentarily when going down hill, then feels like the brakes have been (gently) tapped when the speed has been corrected, then slowing when going up hill, over compensating and quickly slowing again. OK in Suffolk and Essex but I think it might be annoying in hilly areas.
46 mpg at an average of 34 mph according to the trip computer, mainly country roads. I do make a point of thrashing it when warm on the occasional dual carriage way as I think driving gently was the reason for the waste-gate seizing on the Panda.
Trail Rat mentions a 1.2 Tce, the only 1.2 in the Dacia range when I looked at them was the old 75 PS non-turbo, which was bad enough in my colleague‘s Proton.
Other non-engine points which may be relevant to the Logan:-
I like the fact that it has steel wheels, but not the fact that all new cars now come with tyre pressure sensors which are MOT tested and will be expensive to replace in a few years time.
I bought two new standard rims with the car to put winter tyres on (front only), and keep one as a spare in summer (summer tyre as spare in winter), they fit perfectly in the spare wheel well. I did not pay the £90 extra for a space saver and jack, but it came with one anyway.
Offside (not inside) front pads and disc where badly worn after 30,000, very strange.
I still occasionally miss a gear with the very ‘notchy’ gear change.
The 12v power supply will power a dash cam or sat nav, but not both.
The ‘Laureate’ trim comes with A/C, climate control was not an option.
The built in sat nav is dreadful, too slow to warn of turning ahead, very strange routing options, changes route when driving in a different dierectrion, but only does it correctly when set to ‘shortest’ route. I had to turn it off completely when stationary on the M25 as the speeding alarm went off continually. It is mounted too low to be safe to look at whilst driving.
All electric windows, but no auto up/down.
Central locking, but not on rear door, have to use key or lever on floor near driver’s door, it is only a matter of time before I shut the rear door with my keys inside.
The hand hold inside the rear door is in line with the catch, I have drawn blood several times when closing and catching my wrist on the catch.
Door corners are very sharp and at eye level for smaller people.
I love the USB MP3 player but cannot find what max size stick it will take (more than 32gb, less than 64gb). DAB was a £250 option with screen mounted aerial (FM aerial being made redundant), if I need DAB I will use the Aux socket.
It took several attempts before the dealer would put in writing that the extended warranty covered the turbo.
I waited for six weeks to get a white one, as all the other colours were £500 options.
Dashboard is unlit unless sidelights are turned on which makes the speedo difficult to see if driving in to a low sun.
The rear boot on the Stepway is shallower than the Panda’s, which could take a case of wine with the parcel shelf still in place.
Rear seats do not fold flat.

Comfy, cheap, arm length and arm angle adjustable. I tilt the lenses down so that I do not steam up.
Also clear and grey.
I paid £21.95 delivered for a box of ten, six years ago. Gave some to friends and colleagues and still have some left.
fozzieFree MemberWhen my 15yr cat started to have difficulties with her rear legs, the vet prescribed metacam, after a week and a bit she went off her food I dosed her from the syringe, rather than add it to her food as my other cat shared shared the food bowls. It would seem from other websites such as ‘metacam killed my dog/cat’ that stomach ulcers are a problem, possibly from not mixing with food. I stopped the metacam and it would appear that muscle weakness was the problem. She lived another six years. Our old Lab had joint problems (no metacam), but it was kidney failure at 13 that got him.
My advice as as a dog/cat owner, NOT a Vet, is to use the metacam and keep a VERY close eye on the appetite and weight.
fozzieFree MemberI had an ex-press demo Jimny in 2000, for four years and 40,000. It had ABS and A/C that was not available in the first production models.
It has been the only 100% reliable vehicle I have had (driving since 1985) and I would probably still have it, but sold it to finish my mortgage when I got a company Pinin.
It could go through (accidently) three feet of water with the doors not leaking. The wading depth in the manual says ‘the height of the exhaust’ (eighteen inches IIRC).
The best bit was ‘wiping the floor’ with my brother’s Freelander whilst offroad, mainly due to it’s superior ramp break over angle.
It could keep up with motorway traffic, but would be sphincter tightening in cross winds. I nearly hit the central barrier of the Chelmsford bypass after over taking a lorry in strong cross winds.
I am 6 foot, I could have worn a top hat inside, but my knees were very close to the steering wheel.
The gearing was very strange, a large gap between 3rd and 4th and a very small gap between 4th and 5th,
I had the stick shift for 4wd and low range, now they are push button.
I was nervous about buying a rigid axled rear wheel drive car, but soon got used to it, selecting 4wd when the surface looked slippery and remembering to deselect before reaching grippy surfaces. It could be tricky unselecting once on a good surface, sometimes I would only notice the change in surface (and lack of centre diff.) when turning and had to reverse to release it.
The air con (not climate control) could turn the car cold in seconds, I had to warn people that the pool of water I left behind on their drive was condensation.
There was ginger cat in Bures Hamlet that owed its life to the ABS.
The rear boot space (uncovered) could just manage my Pilots Case, or Brompton, but not both.
The plastic interior seemed to be made of the same sort of soft cheese as Dyson vacuum cleaners.
The clutch on my old 90 pickup is hurting my knee, if I cannot free it up, then another Jimny is on the cards.
If someone makes fun of the Jimny’s offroad ability they clearly do not know what they are talking about. Ask them what their approach, exit and ramp break over angles are, only the 90/110 defender was better.
fozzieFree MemberHad both cats put down this year, 21 and 17.
The 21 year old started to go deaf and have weak rear legs & ankles a few years ago, but did not have thyroid or serious kidney problems until she was 21, the night before I had her put down she was still meowing to be picked up and eating well, but would collapse and be unable to get in to the litter tray. Her weak back legs meant I would often find her with her front legs in the tray, but weeing outside.
The 17 year old started to soil the carpets, the Vet said it might be because she felt vulnerable as the arthritis in her legs got worse. The Vet suggested using catsan rather than the compressed wood pellet liiter and adding zylkene to her diet, it worked (she also recommended hills feline t/d, both cats had a full set of teeth and no dental work in the ten years since I started giving it to them).
I did’nt think that when I got a cat in my late twenty’s that I would still have her in my fifty’s, the window sill near the front door seems very empty when I get home.
fozzieFree MemberDon’t know about floor paint, but did my garage walls with high gloss masonry paint.
The brick bits covered well, but the blockwork bits soaked the paint up like a sponge, I had to work it in well with the brush which took ages and used twice the paint.fozzieFree MemberI think I set my Casio to use decimals by default by pressing/selecting shift-mod-stat but it was a while ago and I am sure your son would have a newer model.
fozzieFree MemberI would show you my shaved pussy, but she has been behind the sofa since returning from the vets.
fozzieFree MemberBy Bosch WFF 2000 is about 18 years old, I replaced the door and filter seals a few years ago and fixed a broken program selector knob.
The door seal was about £40 so I I had second thoughts about spending that on a 15 year old machine used in a very hard water area, but it has paid off.
fozzieFree MemberAlso look for “Hills Feline K/D” for renal, my 15 and 20 year old cats are doing fine on it (and they still have all their teeth, probably due to dry “Feline T/D”).
fozzieFree MemberI started taking glucosamine only (cannot remember the dosage) on the advice of my GP in my mid thirties for knee problems (it was painful walking down stairs, two steps at a time).
It seemed to work, but when my knees hurt, I simply took things easy which may have had the same effect, as did cycling through nettles at the weekend, which tingled until Tuesday and then my knees seemed pain free until Saturday.
I am now 49 and take the full dosage of glucosamine and chondrotin (healthspan chondromax as mention by others) and have very few knee problems, just using my landrover’s clutch in heavy traffic can be uncomfortable after a while.
fozzieFree MemberThe guy in the video is Dylan Winter.
He is sailing (and filming) anti-clockwise around Britain going inland as far as he can.
It is documented on his website shown at the end of the clip http://www.keepturningleft.co.uk
I find it interesting, but then I am a pleb.
fozzieFree MemberJust bought nine different bottled conditioned beers from Manningtree Co-Op (only do it once a fortnight though).
fozzieFree MemberIn the BIOS make sure the SATA mode is not set to ACHI.
I like ‘L’ubuntu on my old laptop.
fozzieFree MemberI regularly go south of the border to buy bottled conditioned Mersea Island brewery beer.
It looks as though they only do firkins or mini casks (1/4 of a poly).
fozzieFree MemberOrford seconded, but don’t tell anyone else.
http://thejollysailor.net/%5B/url%5DfozzieFree MemberIf you find your self in The Dove, Hospital Rd, Bury St Eds you could ask the landlord. Old Rog knows his local ales but can talk for England.
fozzieFree MemberThanks for the link, vinnyeh.
http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk now bookmarked.
fozzieFree MemberThe guy who services my 90 has a few pages regarding old landrovers that may be of help
