possibly – my HT has a head tube length of about 120mm, then a headset stack height of 35mm, then a stem height of say 35mm – thats 190mm – so would probably be too short for my bike. If you are shorter than average maybe OK as the headtube length of a frame will be shorter or if it has an inegrated/semi-integrated headset then will get away with it more maybe?

Before you start all the drilling – try a Torx bit in the rounded hole, it usually works

Yup done that as well – did that on a crank bolt and worked ,like a dream – I wacked it in with a big hammer! sl bigger torx bit than the size of the hex!

I have either drilled out the screw heads – the cleat comes off and then you should be able to get a mole wrench on the stub to pull it out or small drill to drill the centre out of the cleat bolt just big enough to remove it bu not to big to stuff the threads in the inner shoe plate.

Well had my talas’s since Jan and no “worn” uppers issues here – clean my bike after most rides with just low pressure hose pipe and do a seal service 15-20 hours of riding (5 min job). Dont rule them out just beause of that – I don’t built/replace/fix and forget. Most of my bike needs a tweak at some point – chainset degrease, rubbing rotors, so a few mins on teh forx is not really an issue to me. It is my pride an joy afterall second to my wife of course ;) so dont mind spending a little time on it!

BTW I would use a little float fluid to lube the uppers (same as in the foam rings inside under the seals)

thats the nature of the beast – especially if you were “NAILING” them :)

also a mole wrench – but did that with mine and it split when I tried to bend it back – perhaps a hammer on a block of wood better? Otherwise put a nerw rim on – can you get replacement XT rims?

I take them for my knees when they are bad and I am going out with some fast riders. No probs here – Paracetamol and tiny bit of codiene (8mg) – I just take one 20 mins before teh ride and lets me enjoy it more. However my knees arnt great a the best of times but have both been worked up fully. It shouldn’t be a substitute for a proper diagnosis. Pain killers will coverup the pain but this may lead to exacerbation of the underlying problem (as its less painful) IMHO ;)

use a bigger hammer and drift on the cassette to drive it off

Yeh cool idea – nice one BWD ;)

Could the freehub bearings be seized onto the axle? Maybe spray with loads of GT85 and try and prise the freehub off?

addendum – oops should have read willyboys post above ;)

I’m not sure what people mean by feel or modulation? If you mean the lever squidges once the pads are in contact with the rotor then the Hayes have plenty of that…I prefer a much firmer brake feel though, but from what I can tell everyone is going for that elusive feeling of lever squidginess to ‘improve’ feel and modulation (although I’m personally not convinced – once the pads are on the rotor, it doesn’t matter how much harder your pull the lever – once they are on they are on).

Sorry Dick I don’t agree. I know the term modulation is open to interprestation. A good example are some old deore’s I had with 160 rotors. V snatchy – either on or off really – obviously is you break harder then the force increases, more friction therefore slowing you down faster. So your term once they are on doesn’t matter how hard you pull on the lever is wrong. pad contact means just that contact, the harder your pull on the leaver….

Modulation is also dependant on the lineage of the piston stroke so if non-linear the lever with increase the piston travel further so the further increase in the lever goes the stronger the breaking force – thats my take on modulation FWIW

yup – m4 (new version) massive breaking and good modulation.. no pump as of yet and no hand or arm ache – brill. Poss too much breaking for me as I am using them too much at the mo – esp the front with bad consequences – training myself to feather them ;) had juicy 7 and mono’s before that. Some people have had proplems with the tech lever design and their shifter but have xt’s with windows removed with no problem! oh using 203mm floating rotors with braided hoses BTW.

Good result Spank – Glad to hear things are looking up on the diagnosis front. At least you didn’t have to resort to drastic measures i.e. casualty. did you have facial problems in the end or was that spasm – what about the explanation for the numnbess and weakness in your leg? CONFUSED!

Will not spend money on another full sus speccy – bearings and pivot are shocking in the English winter – squeaking – crap – ride nice but not built IMHO to last!

    FYI !

AEG Live, who persuaded Jackson to sign up for the shows, is currently facing a liability of up to £300 million and an empty venue for the next nine months.[48] The O2 arena has issued a statement indicating, “Full ticket refund information and procedures will be released early next week for all Michael Jackson “This Is It” shows.”[49] Ticketmaster, which also sold Jackson tickets, has a policy of refunding the face value of the ticket, plus the booking fee. Fans who bought their tickets from private sellers may face difficulties. eBay has recommended that purchasers contact their sellers for refunds and stated that those who used PayPal can get their money back if the purchase was made during the last 45 days.[50] eBay later stated that “all buyers on the site will receive a full refund for their ticket purchase”

I just mean’t not to be too over zealous Simon ;)

Do lots of little bends rather than one big bend. I’ve spent ages trying to get everything back after being a little too enthusiastic with the spanner.

yup Merlin I have found a good and thing turn up when they are supposed to – wish they carried more stock like CRC then would buy more from them! Some people are not confident with changing seals and the like IMHO – so they got a good result in the end maybe?

done a WHOIS lookup on ride559.com and the registrant has been changed and can only be contacted by a webform via http://www.contactprivacy.com/. Odd for someone to cover their registrant contact and also updated it so recently – he has the money to renew his domain name and hosting then ? and the time? (thought I would add my 5 pence in!)

Yeh don’t bin them unless they are knackered – use an adjustable spanner like cynic said to rebend them – gently – like truing a wheel! save ya money?

I’ll leave that to the human medics I think – There maybe 2 different problems related to your previous injury IMHO or it could be related to one episode with further complications. Didn’t you say you had facial problems? Not sure that would relate to a rotator cuff injury?

Yup and Nope. I find that the hotter the rotors get the more warp – the floating rotors are supposed to dissipate heat better and prevent some degree of warping. Some arotors warp more than others IMHO – my old hope mono minis warp quite a lot.

Foxy, thats because chains don’t actually stretch, they just wear out inside the links I believe – so they should be the same length/number of links.

well when you hang them up they are sl longer thats what I was pointing out. I am aware the link plates dont “stretch” but the overall length changes beause the pivots wear and become thinner. Thanks for pointing out what chain stretch is brassneck though ;)

I presume you mean a new chain on a new bike – othersie I hand both on a nail and trim to size of last chain (i.e. count links) coz its never sooo stretched as to get confusing ;)

Sorry my old wheel is a Shimano RM-40, 32 hole, sealed cassette w/ steel QR – lookd – not the same so sorry won’t fit – put a classifieds up and see if anyone has an old wheel with a freehub in good nick for an RM60? Maybe cheaper if your on a budget if not same as Mr P said ;)

Looks like its a Acera groupset – I might have awhole wheel with an acera hub on it – I’ll have a look at home if you like and have a look at the hub code – I’m probably wrong but the hub should be in fairly good nick?

I ruptured my spleen skiing a year ago and was fed up waiting for things to heal – first proper ride 6 months later was 24hr Mountain mayhem and came off – shook me up. I luve getting out and riding – give me a high and I can stay slim – taken me a year however to get my mojo back – only now feeling confident in descending but wouldn’t give it up unless I had to!
